Curious about Edward Norton’s box office grosses or which Edward Norton movie picked up the most Oscar® nominations? Need to know which Edward Norton movie got the best reviews from critics and audiences? Well you have come to the right place….because we have all of that information.
Edward Norton (1969-) is an American actor, writer and director. He has been nominated for three Oscars® for his performances in Primal Fear, American History X and Birdman. His IMDb page shows over 35 acting credits since 1994. This page will rank 28 Edward Norton movies from Best to Worst in five different sortable columns of information. Television shows, shorts, cameos and movies that were not released in theaters were not included in the rankings.
Two of Norton’s greatest acting performances, American History X and Fight Club did not perform very well at the box office and have lower scores because of that fact. Some people might say my formula gives too much weight to box office results…..but ultimately the reason a movie gets made is for the producers/studios to make money and preferably a lot of money.

General thoughts on Norton video: not the usual iconic “manly” stuff [ except for Hulk] that we get in Steve’s HERO videos but Ed makes the kind of material that for my money yields some really classy posters/stills and Steve’s video impressed me to the tune of 98.5%.Steve and Bruce agree on 3 of Ed’s top 5 best reviewed flicks. Edward can apparently be very diffiuclt to work with at times.

“Norton claims that he chose not to play Hulk again because he ‘wanted more diversity’ and opted against associating himself with one character throughout his career and for example turned down the 2012 Avengers blockbuster.” – Wikipedia.
Three cheers for Ed Norton! Clearly he is a thespian with respect for his craft in itself. According to Bruce The Avengers 2012 was the highest grossing film that year and has an adjusted worldwide gross of around $1.7 billion.

Edward Norton is a method actor and chose that style of acting after he had researched other techniques. He started out in the theatre by not just acting in plays but also writing scripts for them. He is today regarded as one of America’s finest actors and on top of his film career he has been in 7 television productions; one video game; and one music video. Apparenlty he may well ne a “man after my own heart” regarding “rip-offs”: he refused to reprise his Hulk role in a sequal or in any of the Marvel movies superhero franchises.
His greatest influence has apparently been Pacino but he also admits to being influenced by Brando; and in fact Ed appeared in a 2007 documentary film entitled “Brando” and has given interviews praising the Great Man. However with his physical and facial makeup and mannerisms Norton most reminds me of Monty Clift though there is in my perception also Dean’s weirdness in some of Ed’s performances . My own fave Norton movies are Fight Club; The Score; Primal Fear; Red Dragon; The Hulk; and 25th Hour which I watched during a holiday in Australia.
Edward is credited with 47 acting awards and 83 nominations; but it is his reported current net worth that has really impressed me – $300 million which is the kind of sum that for the most part only the greatest “megas” in the film/entertainment business like Hanks and Cruise and Babs Streisand among the ladies have been able to accumulate. Ed has one listed project in the pipeline: a comedy/drama called The French Dispatch which seems to be an ensemble movie featuring also the likes of Bill Murray and Owen Wilson.
ADDITIONAL MEANINGLESS TRIVIA: I watched Ed’s Fight Club at the local cinema along with my son who really liked it. I wind him up from time to time by referring to it as “Ladd Club”!
Hi Bob, thanks for the review, generous rating, info and trivia, much appreciated.
Glad you liked the posters and stills.
I’m surprised you’ve listed Fight Club as one of your favorite Ed Norton movies, it’s a bit on the violent side. Red Dragon was pretty gory too, though not as nasty as Hannibal.
You might like Norton’s performance in American History X if you haven’t seen it. A neo-nazi racist, he is mesmerising, the finale is a shocker.
Three films scored 10 out of 10 from my sources – The Grand Budapest Hotel, Birdman and Fight Club.
3 scored 9 – The People vs Larry Flynt, Moonrise Kingdon and American History X.
Fight Club tops both IMDB and Rotten Tomatoes, my chart too, surprised to find it’s not in the top 5 on Bruce’s critics chart.
Norton on showing Marlon Brando The Simpsons – “I showed him the episode where Marge gets cast in a musical version of “A Streetcar Named Desire”. He loved it. Marlon loves stuff like that.”
“First of all, you never make all things for all people and can’t always pander to the broadest denominator. I keep an eye toward doing the themes that interest me. Do they move me? Interest me? Make me think? When I run across something that is provocative in an unsettling way, it appeals to me.”
HI STEVE: As usual a fine reply from you and my own further comments are-
1/For me Ladd Club wasn’t just another of those movies that I consider “mindless action films”. It had an unusual story with a jaw-dropping twist and the acting was first-class. I WILL step out of my comfort zone for something worthwhile!!
2/I liked the trivia about Brando. It doesn’t surprise me that he was taken with The Simpsons as he did have in a contemporary sense offbeat comedy obsessions. I have mentioned before that when he died and his remaining belongings were cleared out of his home the removers found bookcases with just one modern movie on them [his own Guys and Dolls] but droves of the silent comedies of Chaplin and the Keystone Kops.
3/I see that To the Devil a Daughter is on one of our local movie channels this week. You will recall that you and I discussed it recently in connection with one of your latest videos. I often wonder how many old movies would still be available in the public domain had TV/videos/DVDs not been invented.
Anyway were it not for you there WOULD be many posters that I would not be able to revisit today – so please continue to keep safe: for me you’re an “essential worker”!!!
I have thought that the role he played in Primal Fear with Richard Gere was really good. Such a surprise ending when first seen. I thought Pride and Glory was a good film – showing how greed can change someone. VERY GOOD – THANK YOU.
I agree with you BERN1960. Pride and Glory did not do to too well with critics….but I agree with you…it is a decent movie.
Love this site. Nice tribute to Eddie.
Thanks Teddy. Always good to read a compliment.
