Hi
I recently seen Detective Story and Caged and I thought she was fantastic in both. Sadly all of her 50 movies are forgotten and now she is remembered as the baroness in the Sound of Music. Although to be fair, it was a great part and she fantastic in it.
I’m surprised she din’t become a bigger star. I think her problem was that there were too many similar actresses to her in style, Jean Simmons for one.
I have seen 15 of these Eleanor Parker movies.
My favourite five films are
Detective Story
The Sound of Music
Interrupted Melody
A Hole in the Head
Scaramouche
Regarding Steve’s comment about what films he’s seen and not seen:
I have not seen The Man With the Golden Arm either even though I am a Frank Sinatra fan. Usually I try to see every film I can find starring one of my favourite stars, but that one I am deliberately avoiding.
Other Parker films I’ve seen are:
Between Two Worlds
Home From the Hill
Many Rivers to Cross
A Millionare For Christy
Escape From Fort Bravo
The Woman in White
The Naked Jungle
Never Say Goodbye
Hollywood Canteen
Pride of the Marines
Hey Flora. Well your 15 Parker movies watched tops Steve and my combined totals. I have seen two of your Top 5….The Sound of Music (of course) and Scarmouche (which I loved). I want to see Detective Story. Though not on your favorites…..but I want to see Between Two Worlds. Interesting that you are avoiding her The Man With The Golden Arm. Good feedback as always.
Thank you so much for doing a report on the beautiful and talent; and sadly forgotten Eleanor Parker. Most people know her as the baroness in The Sound of Music, but she made numerous important films and in all different genres.
She was nominated for Best Actress by the Academy Awards. She co-starred with the biggest and brightest of the male stars of the Golden Age: Clark Gable, Errol Flynn, Stewart Granger, Robert Taylor, Humphrey Bogart, William Holden, John Garfield, and Robert Mitchum, among others.
Thank you.
Hey Frank. Glad you like our Eleanor Parker page…..Eleanor Powell is ready to go now. I agree she had some truly impressive co-stars. I would say she had a very impressive leading lady run for almost 20 years. She will be forever known for her supporting role in The Sound of Music. Thanks for the visit and the comment…..both are greatly appreciated.
Whoa! The Sound of Music grossed over $2b in adjusted worldwide grosses!
I’ve seen 7 of 33 Eleanor Parker films on the chart. Favorites include – The Naked Jungle, Scaramouche, Detective Story and The Sound of Music.
I’ve yet to see The Man With the Golden Arm.
Nice work Bruce. Vote Up!
Hey Steve….The Sound of Music was the Star Wars of the 1960s….a massive hit…..a massive following and beloved by millions. So far knock on wood….over 50 years later most of the cast is still with us. Speaking of the cast….just saw the trailer for Christopher Plummer’s latest movie…The Man Who Invented Christmas….it looks pretty good.
So you have seen 7 of her movies….well that tops me by 3….as I have seen 4…Scarmouche,Sound of Music, Many Rivers to Cross and Escape From Fort Bravo. Scarmouche blew me away we I saw it for the first time a few years ago. I am shocked it does not have more of a following….the sword fighting scenes are the best ever filmed.
I want to see Detective Story, Between Two Worlds, The Naked Jungle and Caged. As always….thanks for the feedback….and now I head to work.
Currently the UMR database is under construction. Currently the only movies we can update to the database are 2017 movies….so in an effort to get some new material out there…..decided to release the 33 Eleanor Parker movies that we already had in our database…..in a perfect world there are about 10 more Parker movies……hopefully in the near future we will be back up and running.
