  1. It has always seemed to me that in relation to the big screen at least the tag “famous for being famous” might well have been invented for the Gabors. They received enormous publicity in the 1950s when I was growing up and I saw their acting abilities as being no greater than those of say Stahtam and Stallone and Rock Johnson today though admittedly the Gabor ladies were livelier than those 3 somnambulists.

At the box office the Gabors probably sold less tickets than Myrna Loy – well individually anyway – and I think that in none of the movies that The Work Horse has listed above did Eva receive top billing; she seems to have been the female lead in only two of them -Love Island and Captain Kidd and the Slave Girl; and was otherwise always in supporting roles.

Bruce’s tables above show the two films that I have highlighted to be dire flops and indeed over here Captain Kidd and The Slave Girl which I saw was the supporting feature to Burt Lancaster’s successful Apache.

    1. Hey Bob….good information on Eva Gabor. I like your “famous for being famous” might well have been invented for the Gabors. It got me thinking that the Kardashians are the new Gabors. I agree….I think Loy sold more tickets than Eva…lol. Good thoughts on Love Island and Captain Kidd and the Slave Girl. Not thinking if she was not a Joel subject would she have an UMR page. Good stuff.

  2. I have seen 6 Eva Gabor films.

The HIGHEST rated movie I have seen is Gigi.

    1. Hey Flora…thanks for the feedback on our Eva Gabor page. Tally count: Flora 6, Greg 5 and Cogerson 4. I have seen 2 of your 4 favorites….Gigi and The Aristocats (one of WoC’s all-time favorites). I have not seen either of “other” Gabor movies. Overall, I have seen one of her live action movies (Gigi)….75% of her movies that I have seen are from the Disney Animation Studio. Good stuff as always.

  3. And there I was making fun of Eva’s career when I was commenting on Joel’s book.

First Eva film I saw was Pacific Blackout on local TV when I was about 10. Green Acres was on TV at the time and the almanac, that great source of info said Eva was born in 1929 and I’m saying she looks pretty grown up in this movie foe a 12 year old. Needless to say as time moved on she gained 10 years. Zsa was born in 1923 then and I think it’s 1917 now.

The Wife of Monte Cristo used to be in my collection.

Love Island features Eva’s great performance as a native girl, with dark hair too.

Eva was never on the Oracle lists but her sister was years ago.

    1. Hey Dan. Thanks for sharing these Gabor lists. I think I have done a few of the people you mentioned in your Joel comment. Interesting about her changing birthyear. I think the Gabor family had good genes…as most lived a very longtime. Looking at the first list…Christopher Lee and Glenn Ford get the honors of most frequent Oracle Co-Star. I bet I have over 50 Lee movies in the database…yet he has no UMR page. Looking at the second list..I am surprised she had that many Oscar co-stars…even though 17 is not that large of a number. Good stuff as always.

  4. I am more familiar with her television work than I am with her movie career but I have seen five of her movies. Those five movies are ARTISTS AND MODELS, GIGI, MY MAN GODFREY, THE ARISTOCATS, and THE LAST TIME I SAW PARIS. Just my opinion but Eva was the bright spot of some movies that were of questionable quality especially THE LAST TIME I SAW PARIS.

    1. Hey Greg….thanks for sharing your thoughts on Eva Gabor…..congrats on finding it….it is one of a number of new pages that I just put on the New Pages list without pointing it out (no Post of the Day). Tally count: Five for you and four for me. We have seen 2 of the same movie…Gigi and The Aristocats. My other two are The Rescuers movies….which I saw both in theaters. WoC (Wife of Cogerson) loves the The Aristocats. I like you knew her from her television work. The Gabor sisters really confused me as a child……not sure when I realized the lady on Green Acres was not Zsa Zsa. I have a copy of The Last Time I Saw Paris in the house….maybe it is time to finally watch it. Good stuff.
