  2. I have seen Ewan McGregor in 7 movies and my favorites among them are The Ghost Writer [aka The Ghost] and Little Voice. On top of his healthy movie career Ewan has appeared in (1) 18 television productions and  (2) 4 stage presentations.

Included in the latter is Guys and Dolls in which Ewan played the Brando screen role of Sky Masterson. One wonders whether Joel Hirschhorn would have thought that Ewan too was a “liability” in that role. Another of the 4 plays was Othello in which Ewan turned his hand to Shakespeare’s Iago.

Ewan has a reported net worth of $45 million and IMDB credits him with 30 acting awards and 50 nominations. In the pipeline for him are (1) 1 movie at post-production stage; 2 movies filming; 2 movies at pre-production stage (2) a Star Wars/Obi-Wan Kenobi television series in which Ewan will play Obi-Wan [the rip-off continues!].  Ewan is also the executive producer of the series. I like Ewan so I wish him well with these future projects and in the meantime welcome Steve’s video.

  3. Hey Dan.
    1. So he has only starred with 2 of the Top 10…..but 21 of the Top 100.
    2. I see a Black Hawk Down a few times on the list but I thought it was going to be more.
    3. 32 Oscar winners is slightly below average for somebody that has 50 movies.
Fun list as always to check out. Thanks for sharing them.

  4. Rogue Trader was a pretty good picture of it’s type, before the Big Short or Wolf of Wall Street or Margin Call. I believe Boiler Room preceded it.

  5. 1 Like Steve I first saw Ewan McGregor in the 1995 Shallow Grave which I think was his 2nd movie though he had done work in a couple of TV mini series in 1993. Shallow Grave was a low budget British film which as illustrated in the above table didn’t do well at the US box office but was nevertheless a modest commercial success with an actual worldwide gross of $19.8 million against a tiny budget of 2.5 million again in actual dollars.

2 Ewan’s performance impressed me in that movie and I was therefore glad to see him develop from a virtual unknown into quite a successful star. Although I do not usually like the Star Wars films apart from the first one I enjoyed Liam Neeson and Ewan as the young Obi Wan Kenobi in 1999 The Phantom Menace.

3 It was nice to see Ewan being recognised with a page on this site. He has also achieved success outside film. He has been given the BAFTA Britannia Humanitarian Award for charity work and in a poll organised by the British Broadcasting Company Ewan was voted the “4th most influential person in British Culture” As well the Queen of England has awarded him the Order of the British Empire [OBE]. He seems to be somewhat of a “political animal” and last year he publicly supported the leader of the British Labour Party Jeremy Corbyn when there was an unsuccessful party internal attempt to force the latter out of the Labour leadership.

    1. Hey Bob.
      1. Thanks for the feedback on Mr. McGregor.
      2. Shallow Grave helped get McGregor and director Danny Boyle on the map. So far they have made 20 years together.
      3. I liked him in the Star Wars movies….just a shame that the Lucas plots and dialogue were so bad.
      4. McGregor is fun to watch during interviews….he seems to be the type of star that says what is on his mind…which I respect.
      Good stuff.
