Overall I saw over 430 movies in 2019. I did not see every movie released in 2019, but with the exception of 1917, I have seen all of the major movies of the year. I liked The Irishman and Joker, but not enough to crack this Top 10.

My thoughts on this one? New brooms also sweep well….but as I type this review only minutes after seeing the movie….I feel this is one of the best superhero movies ever made. Movie gives everybody a chance to shine. Movie is funny, heart breaking, action packed and very clever. There are many crowd pleasing moments (none will be mentioned here), many scenes that beg to be re-watched, and a nice conclusion to many of the Avengers’ story arcs. Liked all the performances in the movie. Movie packs an emotional wallop at times….but that is to be expected after 22 movies with this collection of characters. Final thought: Needs to be seen.
This one really impressed me. Movie looks at the last high school days of two very book smart girls. The performances are outstanding throughout the entire cast. Movie seems heavily influenced by some of the best high school movies ever made. This one is entertaining from start to finish. Final thought: A movie worth checking out.
Watched this one with my second oldest son on Christmas Eve/Christmas morning. In this based on a true story, Eddie Murphy plays a struggling entertainer who decides to produce his very own movie. Easily, the best part of the movie is Eddie Murphy’s performance. This should get Murphy his second ever acting Oscar nomination. The pacing of the movie is outstanding, the story is fun to watch unfold, and the supporting roles are impressive. Final thought: A fun movie to watch….I highly recommend it!
This was a pleasant surprise. I am not a huge wrestling fan….so I went into this one not expecting much. This is a great underdog story that is based on a true story. In this one a former wrestler and his family make a living performing at small venues around the country while his kids dream of joining World Wrestling Entertainment. Movie does a fantastic job of showing the behind the scenes of WWE. Vince Vaughn and Dwayne Johnson are excellent in supporting roles. The dynamics of the English wrestling family are fun to watch. Final thought: Worth checking out, even if you are not a wrestling fan.
One of the best movies I have seen in 2019. Performances throughout the movie are outstanding. The Christian Bale/Matt Damon screen friendship is one of the best I have ever seen in movies. Right up there with Butch and Sundance. Final thought: Go see this movie…even if you strongly dislike racing movies.
Based on the true story of the terrorist attacks that took place in November 2008 in India. This one is a well done movie that honors the victims and survivors of that horrible event. This movie really educated me of this tragedy…which I was pretty clueless about. Final thought: So far…one of the best movies I have seen this year. A movie that needs to be seen!
This is a great drama. The movie does a great job of showing some of the frustrations in getting a divorce. Adam Driver and Scarlett Johansson deliver Oscar caliber performances. The supporting cast is wonderful. I could see Laura Dern and Alan Alda getting some awards love as well. This is one of the best movies that I have seen in 2019! Near the end of the movie there is a scene with Driver and Johansson that is simply one of the best acting scenes I have seen in movies. Final thought: A great movie with many great performances. Like Coming Home…..it is a movie I admire….just not sure how many times I will revisit it.
My thoughts on this one? Ok….there are many parts that I liked about this movie. (1) Leonardo DiCaprio and Brad Pitt are awesome together…and create some memorable characters. (2) Movie makes you feel you are back in the late 1960s. (3) Some of the editing is awesome. Standout scenes include DiCaprio stepping in for Steve McQueen and Burt Reynolds. (4) A fight scene involving Bruce Lee is probably the most entertaining scene in the movie.
I did have some issues with the movie. (1) Way too long…I looked at my phone numerous times as I was seeing how much time was left in the movie. (2) Margot Robbie as Sharon Tate does not really have much to do in the movie. (3) The grand finale, had humor and was entertaining, but I feel was somewhat in bad taste..especially if you know the events of August 8th, 1969. (4) Pitt and DiCaprio actually do not have that many scenes together…I wanted more of them together.
Loved this movie. This is a well done movie that features many great performances. Movie revolves around a man (played by Zack Gottsagen) with Down syndrome that embarks on an adventure to become a professional wrestler. I am not a fan of Shia Labeouf at all, but I loved him in this movie. He and Gottsagen develop a great screen relationship. Bruce Dern, John Hawkes, Dakota Jennings and Thomas Haden Church shine in supporting roles. There is one scene revolving around Church and his change of heart that really got to me. Final thought: This is probably going to make my Top 10 2019 movie list.
My thoughts on this one? This is a home run for DC. This is how Marvel created their massively successful universe. Have great stories that feature new heroes BEFORE slamming them together in a Justice League movie. Movie is pretty funny throughout. Zachary Levi is outstanding as SHAZAM. He almost comes close to out doing Tom Hanks in Big. In both movies, a boy suddenly has a man’s body to roam around with. Loved the story when our teenage heroes are trying to figure out how this superhero thing works…..as it concentrates on what teenagers would be if they had this power. Mark Strong is very good as the villain. My only complaint would be some of Strong’s scenes are pretty intense…and at times do not go well with the rest of the story. My ten year old got really freaked out on some of those scenes. Final thought: One of my favorite superhero movies that I have seen. My 12 year old, my ten year old and wife really enjoyed this movie too!
Right there with you on Endgame, Hollywood and Marriage Story. Shocked Joker is not on your list.
Hey Tamrah Lilly. Got ask did you go to Churchland High School? I graduated with a girl by that name in high school….pretty sure it was spelled that way. Anyway….sorry Joker did not make my list. I actually watched it last night…with the expectation that it would be included here…..it did not work out that way. Glad we agree on Endgame, Once Upon A Time In Hollywood and Marriage Story. Thanks for the feedback.
A solid Top 10. I would say The Irishman, Joker, Captain Marvel and Star Wars would make my Tip 5 with your Endgame. I will have to check out Peanut Butter Falcon.
Thank you Taylor. I can see The Irishman and Joker making many lists…..I liked both…just not blown away like so many others have been. I think you would like Peanut Butter Falcon. Good to hear from you.
HI STEVE
Don’t you be following WH’s lead and giving us a video with no posters or stills.
Anyway I hope your Xmas is going well.
Hey Bob…UMR pages without stats….next will be Lensman videos without photos and posters….and that will be followed by RottenTomates without reviews…. I am so powerful…I am starting a trend…lol. Thanks for the feedback.
What about Joel without stars – now THAT would make my Christmases for many years to come!
Your reviews on the movies are a nice touch
Thank you Victoria…your feedback is greatly appreciated.
What no animation? I’m surprised at you Bruce. 🙂 You must have watched all the big animated movies of the year which was your favorite? Frozen II? The Lion King?
I’ve seen 4 of your 10 favorites – Shazam, Hotel Mumbai, Once Upon a Time in Hollywood and Avengers Endgame.
Of the other 6 Ford vs Ferrari is the one I want to see. Eddie Murphy’s movie is on Netflix I might give it a look based on your review.
Hey Steve….yep no animation on my Top 10 of the year. I saw a bunch of animated movies….but they ranged from it’s alright (Secret Live Of Pets 2, Angry Birds 2, Frozen II) to disappointing (Toy Story 4). Still do not understand why the movie makers of Toy Story 4 had to suck all the joy out of the franchise….and leave depressed and almost unlikeable characters in their place.
I think you will like Ford v Ferrari and Dolemite. Marriage Story is well done…but a one and done movie for me. The Peanut Butter Falcon was awesome…but not normally the type of movies you watch. Thanks for the feedback.
