Faye Dunaway (1941-) is an Oscar® winning American actress. Dunaway’s career began on Broadway in the early 1960s. She made her movie debut in 1967’s The Happening. Her third movie in 1967 was Bonnie and Clyde. Bonnie and Clyde was a massive hit and made Dunaway a star. Faye Dunaway’s IMDb page shows 110 acting credits from 1965-2016. This page will rank 41 Faye Dunaway movies from Best to Worst in six different sortable columns of information. Television shows and movies that were not released in North American theaters were not included in the rankings. To do well in our overall rankings a movie has to do well at the box office, get good reviews by critics, be liked by audiences and get some award recognition.
Drivel part of the page: A few months ago we wrote a page that listed the Top 25 Actress From 1950-2010. On that page we ranked Dunaway as the 18th best actress from that time frame. Since we think so highly of her, we figured it was way past due to write a Faye Dunaway UMR page.

I have seen 1 Faye movie, and it was a limited role at that. Perhaps more should be on my list.
“The cobbler’s children have no shoes”
Hey Wife of Cogerson. I take full responsibility for your tally count. Luckily we have a few of her classics already in the house just waiting to watch. Your tally count is actually 2….as we watched both Thomas Crown Affairs….back to back one night with Katie many years ago. We will have to watch Chinatown in the next couple of weekends.
Currently Tally Counts
1st Faye Fan….39 Faye movies watched
2nd Dan…….36 Faye movies watched
3rd Steve…..18 Faye movies watched
4th Cogerson…14 Faye movies watched
5th Bern1960….12 Faye movies watched
6th Wife of Cogerson 2 Faye movies watched
2 is a very sad tally count for WifeOfCogerson. However, I’d rather be dong something creative for two hours than watch most movies, so I guess it is fair. Thank you for putting up with me.
W of C Good morning.
1 My goodness W of C by saying that you have better things to do than watch movies you are proving a John Wayne type saying which in a Hollywood modernising of Biblical passages came out as “A prophet is without honour in his own home town.”
2 Anyway thanks for giving me the opportunity to slip in a Duke anecdote !
Best wishes
BOB
PS You remind me of one of those actors who pretends to be doing his craft only for the money but whose performances clearly illustrate that he DOES care about acting. I doubt if you could have produced that comprehensive survey on gender bias if you were not paying a good amount of attention to the movie world.
Hey WoC….well since your first comment….we have already doubled your tally. So I feel we can eventually get you to 5. I think it is fair to say…..that it is me who should be thanking you for putting up with me. You are awesome!
HELLO AGAIN STEVE
1 I don’t think we can declare a winner until Bruce gives a ruling on which actors/actresses can be included. Meanwhile I agree with you that the Thomas Crown remake was better than the original but until you stuck your head above the parapet I didn’t dare say that as like me Bruce seems to be a McQueen fan !!
2 You’re also right about young actors and Mr Mumbles. Leo DiCaprio says that for years he vainly tried to get a meeting with him. Matthew Broderick had a dressing room opposite Mr M on The Freshman set and Matt claims that he drilled a hole in the door so that he could watch Mumbles come and go. Apparently half the young cast of Missouri Breaks sat on a hilltop all afternoon staring at the railway tracks below and waiting for the Mumbles Express to arrive for the movie. And I hope you catch my forthcoming Dustin Hoffman post.
3 Actually to some extent Mumbles was a kindred spirit of ours. We communicate through Cogerson and Mumbles was apparently a radio ham who would phone strangers all over the world at every hour of the night, talk to them in different accents and even pretend to be other celebrities. He would also often openly speak to his pal Chuck Heston on the wireless. Now here’s a thought – they all must have been able to make out what he said !!
Robert, your frequent mumbling over mumbles is hilarious. I love that word ‘mumbles’. I’m surprised there isn’t a literary character by the name of Mr. Mumbles, fantastic name for a children’s book.
Btw Robert I’m sure it would really brighten up Bruce’s day if you would post the occasional tally count on these great actors. I have a feeling you’ve seen more of those films than some of us here. If you can’t be bothered or can’t remember the titles, no worries.
Mumbling Steve. 🙂
Hey Steve and Bob….you are both correct…you are both winners…the prizes will be sent out next Thursday…lol.
As for Mumbles…don’t forget the name of Dustin Hoffman’s character in Dick Tracy…..he was Mumbles.
As for Bob’s tally count….he thinks he has an unfair advantage…because he is older……but I imagine….he would be hard pressed to get the Gold or Silver on this page.
🙂
So I win the movie viewing contest? And what do I win?
Hey Faye Fan…..well you are the leader in the clubhouse…..if you win….you get….hold your seat…..UMR.com bragging rights for Faye Dunaway. These bragging rights are good for 10% off partcipating grocery stores…..so you next time you go grocery shopping just let the cashier know…of your Dunaway win….and how you want your discount….lol.
So in reading the comments I noticed many people gave the amount of Dunaway movies watched. I have seen 39 of the 41 you listed. I have seen another 9 that did not make the list with Changing Hearts being the one I liked the most. Not sure how many of her television shows I have seen but I have seen and enjoyed Running Mates, Ellis Island, Gia and her appearances on CSI and Columbo. I would say I have seen 75% to 80% of all of her movie jobs.
Hey Faye Fan…..39 is mighty impressive….as is the 75 to 80% mark for all of her performances.
Currently Tally Counts
1st Faye Fan….39 Faye movies watched
2nd Dan…….36 Faye movies watched
3rd Steve…..18 Faye movies watched
4th Cogerson…14 Faye movies watched
5th Bern1960….12 Faye movies watched
I have not seen any of her straight to home entertainment movies….but I have seen Gia….one of Angelina’s more sexy roles…though it is a pretty depressing movie. I will have to check out Changing Hearts…thanks for some great comments.
Huge Faye fan. She is one of my Top 5 thespians. I fell in love with her the first time I saw Bonnie and Clyde. I do not think she has ever given a bad performance. Sure she has appeared in some bad movies but her performance were not bad. Even in Mommie Dearest I feel she does well. That role was and is very polarizing. If you do some research you will see she at one point she was in the running for an Academy Award nomination.
My favorite Dunaway roles are her roles in Chinatown, Barfly and Puzzles of a Downfall Child. My favorite Dunaway movies are Three Days of the Condor, little big Man and of course Bonnie and Clyde. On the other end of the rainbow I would have to say my least favorite Dunaway role is First Deadly Sin. I have seen that movie a few times and it is one of the few Faye movies that does not get better. Bruce Willis is in First Deadly Sin? I do not remember that.
In conclusion I want to thank you for this wonderful tribute to Faye. I will be sharing it with some others who have the same problem as me.
Hey Faye Fan…glad to see a Faye Dunaway mega fan found this website. Curious how you found it so quickly…I am not complaining…..just trying to understand…so I can repeat it for future pages. I think many people fell in love with her and her performance in Bonnie and Clyde. I agree with you Mommie Dearest. It made money when it was first released….has become a cult classic….I think I read that early buzz on the movie was talking about an Oscar nomination for her….that however went away pretty quickly.
I like how you listed your Top Roles and Top Movies…..I understand your thinking 100%. I had not even heard of Puzzles of a Downfall Child until I did this page. But I agree she is outstanding in Barfly and Chinatown. As for your three favorite movies they are all excellent movies…I just rewatched Little Big Man….boy her part is pretty small. As for Bruce Willis in First Deadly Sin…..ok he was an extra and can be found walking in a door as Frank Sinatra is walking out a door….I am a huge Willis fan….and I take every opportunity to get him in my webpages…lol. Here is the You Tube link for that awesome Willis performance in First Deadly Sin. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ElYoof_BG8w He appears at the 6 second mark…and gone by the 8 second mark
Thanks for the very kind words about our newest page.
