Top 50 Stars Book

The statistics and the way he formatted the book are fascinating and make for fun reading.” – Kitkatdiva

What an awesome book! I have not seen such a detailed compilation of data ever. Great information and a fun read all around!” – BryRog57

“…. very interesting book…… if you want to know the biggest movie star in the history, just read this book.” – Laurent

Bruce Cogerson has written an excellent resource on top movie stars for film lovers. This book is jam packed with statistics on 50 top movie stars on their highest ranked movies by award recognition, top 25 box office hits, critical review scores and overall UMR scores. This takes out bias by personal preference. I have put stars next to my favourite titles and check marks next to other titles I have seen and will use it to keep track of films I love and need to see. This guide will have a treasured spot in my library.” – Flora

  1. AUTHOR! AUTHOR! HI BRUCE I have today ordered a copy of your book from Amazon and they tell me I will receive it around the 3rd week of this month so that although I have already read its contents via my computer copy I look forward to having it as a permanent reference source.

Always the mountebank I never lose the opportunity of pretending to have great literary tastes and therefore I must tell you that in my bookcase I have not only the works of the Bard of Avon but also those of Hemmingway, Jane Austen and the Bronte sisters.

Great as those classic are they will fall just short of being good enough for me to place your books alongside them and instead I propose to position it beside a 1983 book called Rating the Movie Stars and Tai Pan a 2005 pirate yarn written by Donald Campbell and one Marlon Brando [the manuscript for which was for a long time kept in Mr Brando’s fridge “to keep it fresh” and it’s hero is a FAT pirate!]

This treble positioning will be justified by respect that I retain for my old primary school teacher years ago who had emblazoned in large lettering on the wall of his classroom the slogan “Only the best is good enough!.”

Seriously though after your generosity in posting books to me, and taking into account how massively invaluable your site has been to me as a movie buff, I have been very pleased to have been afforded the double benefit of (1) owning your book in hardcopy form and (2) being given the opportunity to contribute personally something albeit small to your site. I am sure that many others will benefit from the book, though maybe you should consider releasing a version without stats for STEVE’s benefit if that is possible!

Certainly the comments below would suggest that the book is already a hit with your regulars and you are to be congratulated on cracking an Amazon Top 50. That’s almost as good as a movie star making a Cogerson Top 50 but just a pity The Master isn’t around to review it – and to learn from it!

    1. CORRECTION AND APOLOGIES FOR ERRORS

The pirate yarn referred to in my previous post is actually called Fan Tan and its authors are Marlon Brando and Donald CAMMELL.

Some reviews of it have been reasonable with certain critics saying that at last away from his “day job” Mr Brando is using words via a medium in which they can be understood!

Certainly even if Mr Hirschhorn could never accept Mr B as a movie Great he must now be regarded as a literature Great because his book is published by Amazon – just like the Top 50 Movie Stars Book!

      1. I am sure Mr. Cammell will figure you. Funny thought about Brando and his day job. Ah….but Joel gave Marlon a nice spot on his book….it might have not liked his acting….but he realized the power Brando had. Sort of like me and George Clooney…lol.

        1. HI BRUCE

I will certainly give you my feedback on the book when it arrives.

Meanwhile it occurs to me to wonder what Joel might think if he knew that his most devoted pupil and his most loathed “bad guy” were now fellow authors at Amazon.

The Master probably would have contended that in the last decades of his career Brando didn’t even have a day job and for once I would have some sympathy with Hirsch in that respect. My own brother, also a fan of Marlon often laments the waste of Brando’s declining years though my brother always adds “but if he had behaved differently he wouldn’t really have been Brando.”

Take care and have a good weekend.

          1. Hey Bob….looking forward to your thoughts on the book….hoping you will feel like Steve does about the book….that it looks pretty professional…especially for two people very new to this “writing a book” thing…lol. I would hope Hirsch would get a kick out of the book…knowing that his book…was a huge reason for this book being made.

As for the weekend….everybody in this house is sick…yet….half of us have to go out in the rain to sell girl scout cookies…I think we will be even sicker tomorrow. Hope your weekend is better.

    2. Hey Bob….thanks for buying the book….sorry it is going to take that long to reach you. If you lived in the United States….you would get the book in two or three days. We were willing to buy the book for you…especially since you got the e-book. We feel, this version is much better. I have enjoyed using it as a reference already. Last night I watched Funny Face….and looked it up in my book…that was a weird feeling…..but a great weird feeling.

I would be honored to have the book even remotely near those literary greats. Thanks for the support…..sadly our website expenses keep going up and up. February 2019 was an awesome month for us…almost half a million views in 28 days…..yet….it came with another price increase.
So a stat book without stats for Steve….awesome awesome idea…we will get to work on it right away.

I have enjoyed the book being on one of Amazon’s best sellers list…but I realize it is a pretty obscure list…a long way to go for one of the really big and really important lists…..but we will take any Best Seller list we can make. WoC joked….”This is the best selling Cogerson book ever written…..granted it is only two books.”

Once again…thanks for the support……let us know what you think of the book when it arrives.

  2. Great Book, enjoyed going thru and picking out movies that I have not seen and got the titles wrong. Can not wait for the next one.

    1. Thanks George…..glad you like the book. Going to have to figure out a way to get your kind words on Amazon as a review. Thanks for all the help and suggestions over the years.

  3. Since I am not a Hall of Famer, I had to purchase the book. My three word review. “I like it.” I wish Al Pacino could have made the book. I could say the same for many others, but I imagine picking 50 is a challenge. Happy to help support your website with a book purchase.

    1. This sounds alike like Attempted Humour from HubPages. If it is, damn glad to hear from you again, if not, a name would help jog the memory. Either way..thanks for the visit and the comment.

  4. Hey SteinHoF16…I appreciate the support…..but we were willing to send you a free copy. Very cool that the book will be there on Tuesday. Thanks again for all the support for all these years.
