Want to know the best Frank Marshall movies? How about the worst Frank Marshall movies? Curious about Frank Marshall box office grosses or which Frank Marshall movie picked up the most Oscar® nominations? Need to know which Frank Marshall movie got the best reviews from critics and audiences and which got the worst reviews? Well you have come to the right place….because we have all of that information.
Frank Marshall (1946-) is a 5-Oscar® nominated film producer and director. In 1981, he co-founded Amblin Entertainment with Steven Spielberg and Kathleen Kennedy. That partnership over the last 35 years has produced some of biggest box office hits of all-time….not to mention two children…as he and Kennedy married in 1987. His IMDb page shows 114 producing credits from 1971-2017. This page ranks 72 Frank Marshall movies from Best to Worst in six different sortable columns of information. Television shows, documentaries and shorts were not included in the rankings.
Drivel part of the page: When Dan requested a page on Frank Marshall and Kathleen Kennedy…my first thought was….”well that will be an easy one to do”. My thought was that most of their movies would be Spielberg movies…and since we have a Spielberg page…it would be a snap. It did not take long when I looked at their IMDb pages…..that “it would be a snap” quickly faded away. First of all….they have been very busy…with over 210 IMDb credits between them. Second of all…while they have done lots of movies together (48 in case you are wondering) they have also done lots of work separately. So it was decided to give both of them their own UMR pages….and to include a Yours, Mine and Ours table as well. Here is our Kathleen Kennedy page.

I believe I’ve seen all except the Young Black Stallion and From Up on Poppy Hill. I didn’t realize they produced numerous films separately figuring it would be a Marshall/Kennedy list by itself. Thanks for pointing that out and also for doing the lists.
Hey Dan…yep I was surprised too. Turns out they have made 70% of their movies together and 30% apart…..but alone or together their track record is incredible. Thanks for the suggestion…even if it was difficult to do…lol.
Frank produced Jason Bourne now.
Yep….Frank is adding to his totals with Jason Bourne….I imagine that between Frank and Kathleen…..that almost every weekend has one of their movies making money.
Whoa that’s a lot of films, many of them big hits. I didn’t know Marshall produced some of those, the anime in particular, maybe he just handled the US distribution?
I’ve seen 45 of the 70 films listed. My favorites are the first two Indiana Jones movies, Back to the Future, Gremlins, Poltergeist, Jurassic World, InnerSpace and Young Sherlock Holmes.
Good to see Raiders and Back to the Future topping the critics chart. Raiders tops the UMR but for some obscure reason The Color Purple is at no.2, why? It wasn’t a huge hit, it failed to win any Oscars and looking at the critics chart even the critics weren’t impressed with it. I watched it once on video and that was quite enough.
With the release of The Color Purple and a stream of less than fabulous films that followed, Hook, Always, Amistad etc Spielberg dropped off the top spot for young Steve and was replaced by Hitchcock as favorite director.
So Bruce, Marshall had nothing to do with Jurassic Park, only Jurassic World? Otherwise JP would be topping the adjusted grosses instead of JW.
An interesting page. Voted Up!
Hey Steve.
1. Yep Frank has been a busy man.
2. Tally count….Cogerson & Hunsecker tied at 54…..and you at 45.
3. I like your favorites you listed….though I have not seen Young Sherlock Holmes in years.
4. Color Purple was a good sized hit….just it looks small compared to these monster all-time hits…..the reviews were solid….the 11 Oscar nominations is stellar…and The Color Purple is one of his Oscar nominations…..so good box office, good reviews, Oscar love and an individual Oscar nomination help get up in the rankings.
5. I was glad to see Raiders at the top as well.
6. The Kennedy/Marshall team are like wrestlers ….Kennedy took the reigns for the first three Jurassic movies….but got tired….so Frank took care of Jurassic 4…..lol.
As always your movie thoughts are always appreciated.
All of these great movies and Jurassic World is his biggest hit? So he has Indy, Bourne and whoever Chris Pratt plays in the Jurassic movies. That is a good collection. I will be seeing Jason Bourn this weekend. I liked this page.
Hey Stein….yep last year’s Jurassic World is his biggest hit….Kathleen Kennedy produced the first three but she did not produce the 4th one. I guess she was holding back the franchise…lol. I agree he has a pretty trilogy of leading men there.
When looking at the last table Kathleen is without a doubt the more successful when working without the other. Interesting stuff.
Hey Scattered/Scott…..I agree but Frank Marshall’s numbers are awesome too. Thanks for stopping by.
Interesting choice for a page. Producers don’t often get this attention. I’ve seen 54 of his movies.
Hey Hunsecker….it was a request that I thought was going to be easy…..but it turned into one that required lots of work….I should learn my lesson and assumed all of these pages are going to be difficult…lol. Wow…we are tied at 54….the tiebreaker might be who sees Jason Bourne first….for me it will be when it is for free at my local library. Thanks for the comment…and for checking out my latest.
