Want to know the best Gary Oldman movies? How about the worst Gary Oldman movies? Curious about Gary Oldman box office grosses or which Gary Oldman movie picked up the most Oscar® nominations? Need to know which Gary Oldman movie got the best reviews from critics and audiences and which got the worst reviews? Well you have come to the right place….because we have all of that information.
Gary Oldman (1958-) is an English Oscar® winning actor. Oldman first gained notoriety for playing punk rocker Sid Vicious in 1986’s Sid and Nancy. Over the last 30 years Oldman has been one of the most productive and successful actors working in Hollywood. His IMDb page shows over 87 credits from 1982-2017. This page ranks 44 Gary Oldman movies from Best to Worst in six different sortable columns of information. Television shows, shorts, video games, documentaries and movies not released in North America theaters were not included in the rankings.
Drivel part of the page: Recently Cogerson Son #2 was over the house for a visit. We were surprisingly talking about UMR.com (that was sarcasm)….when he noticed that we did not have a UMR page on Gary Oldman. He said…”Hey Pops….I think you should do something about that.”. So….since he suggested it and that Cogerson Daughter #1 really likes Gary Oldman (The 5th Element is one of her all-time favorites)…..we finally have taken the time and have written a page on Mr. Oldman.

Possibly Interesting Facts About Gary Oldman
1. Gary Leonard Oldman was born in New Cross, London in 958.
2. Gary Oldman studied acting at Citizens Theater in Glasgow. From there he appeared in some very successful plays in London’s West End (see of these performances Steve?). Next for Oldman was movies…and the rest is history.
3. Gary Oldman and 1986’s Sid and Nancy. Oldman lived on a diet of steamed fish and melon to lose enough weight to play the emaciated, heroin-addicted Sid, and was hospitalized when he went too far and became malnourished.
4. Gary Oldman is an acting hero in the minds of: Michael Fassbender, Ryan Gosling, Shia LaBeouf, ,and Tom Hardy.
5. Gary Oldman has received one Oscar® nomination in his career. He was nominated for Best Actor in 2011’s Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy
6. Gary Oldman has been married 4 times….he has three children.
7. Gary Oldman has used a different speaking voice (i.e. accent) in practically every movie he’s ever been in.
8. Gary Oldman and The Fifth Element Trivia Part 1: The hero Korben Dallas (Bruce Willis) and the villain Jean Baptiste Emanuel Zorg (Oldman) never meet, nor do they communicate in any way. They are, in fact, unaware of each other’s degree of involvement. (This has always amazed me!).
9. Gary Oldman and The Fifth Element Trivia Part 2: In most shots of Oldman’s Zorg, there is a circle around his head. In fact, a circle in the middle of the frame is a near-constant motif in this film. Bruce Willis, on the other hand, is more often framed by a rectangle or doorway behind him. (Pay attention to that the next time you watch the movie).

So that is 15 here and 17 on other comment….for a total of 32. Right around 75% seen…not too bad. Good video….voted up and shared.”
Hi Bruce, 32 seen out of 42 is very good, my 28 is not bad either. Flora has seen 4, twice as many as her Alan Rickman total. Oldman’s Dracula is a big favorite of mine but I still prefer Christopher Lee. Looking forward to watching The Fifth Element again at Xmas. Thanks for the epic review, vote and share, much appreciated.
On the current Oracle of Bacon Top 1000 Center of the Hollywood list Gary is ranked all the way up at # 41. In 2000 the first year of the list Gary was #761. He has been in a lot of pictures with ensemble casts even making 3 with Kevin Bacon whom the site is named after. Kevin as far as I know has never been above 370. He was 913 back then and something tells me there be even an earlier version in time because I remember he was not on the list at the time. These are all the current members of the top 1000 who have worked with Gary.

I don’t know any of those people in Dawn of the Planet of the Apes except for Judy Greer. I could not pick out of a lineup 17 people listed for the Dark Knight Rises.
These are the few people who have fallen off the 2000 list who worked with Mr. Oldman. Rank is for 2000.

Hey Dan. 41st? Well that is pretty impressive. Even stranger that Kevin Bacon has never really done well in his own game. His current list is pretty massive. You are right there are many people listed under The Dark Knight Rises that get a big Who? from me. True Romance on the other hand…I know almost all of the 17 people listed.
Sad to see John Candy falling off the list. Actually even sadder than almost all of these actors are no longer with us. Wow….I would have thought Maggie Smith would have remained….she is a very busy actress…even as she gets close to 90?
34 Oscar winners is impressive….and that number should go up….as I see some Oscar wins from some of his recent co-stars like Tom Hardy, Jessica Chastain and others.
Thanks for sharing the lists….good to see…my pages picked up a star that is so highly ranked.
One of the most underrated actors working today. Nice tribute to one of my favorites.
Hey Simpson…I agree with your comment 100%….thanks for stopping by and commenting.
Now this is more to my speed. I barely knew any of the movies on your last few pages, but I know Gary Oldman movies. Sadly it seems he is now a supporting actor but in the 1990s he made some fascinating movies as a lead actor. I have seen almost all of these movies. I have not seen all of True Romance but I have seen his small part. Now that is a crazy performance there.
Hey Stein…glad you enjoyed this page more…I try and rotate between classic subjects and current subjects…but I know I had a few classic ones in a row….I blame the fact that I recently discovered lots of old box office numbers….but now I am back to that rotation. I would recommend watching all of True Romance…..it is one of my favorite movies…though it is very violent…thanks for stopping by.
One of Britain’s finest. The first film I saw Gary Oldman in must have been Sid and Nancy a long time ago on video, not a film I revisit. I’ve never seen Prick up your Ears but I did catch State of Grace and he was brilliant in that. He was also memorable as Drexl in True Romance. Looking at the trivia I’m surprised he was only Oscar nominated once!
I’ve seen 31 of the 42 films listed, favorites include Bram Stoker’s Dracula, JFK, State of Grace, True Romance, Leon – The Professional, The Fifth Element (one of the most enjoyable films of the 90s and a film I still watch regularly), Air Force One, Chris Nolan’s Dark Knight trilogy and Hairy Putter and the Flying Broomstick.
Movies I’ve missed include – Immortal Beloved, Prick up your Ears, The Contender and Paranoia.
Sad to see Fifth Element failed to get into any of the top 10s on the chart. The Dark Knight was the big one here.
Top job on a great actor Bruce. Voted Up!
Hey Steve…well your 31 tops me…as I am at 28. Sid and Nancy is a movie I still have not seen. I love his part in True Romance…too bad he gets dispatched so quickly. Of the ones you have missed ….I would recommend The Contender….it is filled with many great performances and has a great story. As for The Fifth Element….I did not like that it fell outside of the Top 10…..but statistics never lie…lol.
