1. Gene Eliza Teirney was born in Brooklyn, New York in 1920. Her father, a successful insurance broker, set up a corporation, Belle-Tier, to fund and promote her acting career….I think that it worked!

2. Gene Tierney most famous movie role was in 1944’s Laura.  She originally did not want to make the movie but did it anyway under contract obligations….so basically 20th Century Fox made her make the movie.

3. Gene Tierney appeared in five films with Dana Andrews: 1941’s Tobacco Road, 1941’s Belle Starr , 1944’s Laura, 1948’s The Iron Curtain and 1950’s Where the Sidewalk Ends.

  3. How was I not one of the people who requested this page?

Sorry Robert Roy/Bobby that I was not the first person to comment, but as Steve mentioned I have been distracted by my love of westerns airing for 48 straight hours on TCM

    and – gasp! – sleeping.

    I| love Gene Tierney.

Gene’s role in her film opposite film noir regular Richard Widmark in Night and the City which was filmed in England during a food rationing- Widmark talked about always been hungry – was actually enlarged so that she had more work to do as she was working for the first time in years. Originally, she was meant to be Widmark’s girlfriend only. But her role was expanded so that she had a whole storyline with scenes where Richard was absent.

My favourite of her career is Laura. I can talk hours about Laura. Laura is my favourite Dana Andrews movie. I own the DVD. I see it at least once every two months.

I also love Leave Her to heaven – fabulous film. EVil. Evil. Evil. 🙂

And what about The Ghost and Mrs. Muir – a beautiful and fastastic love story between a woman and a ghost whom she believes is the only one who can see him. But Natalie Wood as her daughter saw him too. George Sanders is wonderful. The entire cast is wonderful.

Now that I’ve talked about favourites:

    Here are my rankings/viewings;

The highest ranking film I have seen is number1
The highest ranking film I have not seen is number 6

    Therefore, I have seen:

    5 of the top 5
    7 of the top 10
10 of the top 15 (love the Return of Frank James)
    17 of the top 20
21 of the top 25 (Whirlpool and Where the Sidewalk Ends I love too)
    I have seen 24 overall.

The lowest ranked film I have seen is The Pleasure Seekers.

As for the reference to the Agatha Christie mystery The Mirror Crackd- I knew the book before I knew of this actress and recognized the reference right away.

    Excellent, Bruce!

    1. Hey Flora.
      1. I will forgive you for not being first…..though it would have been almost impossible to beat Bern1960 this time….as she was right next to me when I hit the publish button and had already read most of the page…..and her comment came about 2 minutes after the page hit the airwaves.
      2. I could have sworn that Gene Tierney was on the request list….and it was requested by more than one person…I must have deleted her when I was putting the requests in ABC order.
      3. Thanks for the behind the scenes information on Night and the City.
      4. Laura is a classic….and her performance in Leave Her To Heaven is awesome….three evils is about right…I was sure to find a picture of her in the row boat.
      5. I also enjoyed The Ghost and Mrs. Muir….she and Harrison were fun to watch together.
      6. The Egyptian was supposed to be a Marlon Brando movie….I hear Bob somewhere…lol.
      7. Tally count…..Larry 26, you 24, Paul 18, Bern1960 17 and me 8….seems I am at the bottom all the time lately…when it comes to classic movie stars.
      8. I figured you would enjoy that interesting fact about Tierney and Agatha Christie.
As always…thanks for the visit, the comment and for sharing your movie knowledge.

  4. Another winning page. I love how this pages come out some random. Or at least they appear to be random from my viewpoint. She was lovely and talented. Shame about her off screen problems. Keep up the good work.

    1. Thanks Helakoski. They are pretty random….though the request list usually gets a subject picked….I do tend to go back and forth between classic stars and current stars….so since Tierney was a classic subject….the next one will be a current star. I agree with you 100% that she was a lovely and talented star. Her off screen issues were tragic indeed…..glad she recovered enough to continue working,,,,but the late 1950s were very rough for her. Thanks for the kind words and the comment.

  5. Sorry Steve I meant Cornel rather that Colonel the latter being the way we used to think of it as kids.

    BOB
