Want to know the best Gene Wilder movies? How about the worst Gene Wilder movies? Curious about Gene Wilder box office grosses or which Gene Wilder movie picked up the most Oscar® nominations? Need to know which Gene Wilder movie got the best reviews from critics and audiences? Well you have come to the right place….because we have all of that information.
Gene Wilder (1933-2016) was a 2-time Oscar nominated actor, writer and director. Wilder gained fame for his many movies with Mel Brooks (The Producers, Blazing Saddles & Young Frankenstein) but to many like me he will always be Willy Wonka. Wilder’s IMDb page shows 37 acting credits from 1961-2015. This page will rank Gene Wilder movies from Best to Worst in six different sortable columns of information. Television roles, cameos, shorts and straight to DVD movies were not included in the rankings.
Drivel Part: Recently we wrote a page on Wilder’s frequent co-star, Richard Pryor. While doing that research on that page, we thought Gene Wilder would make a good UMR movie star page. Sadly today, August 29th 2016 brings the sad news that Gene Wilder passed away at 83. So as a tribute to his movie career….we put together this page. Rest in peace Mr. Wilder…you will be missed. Drivel Part 2: Wow within a 25 minute window…a got an e-mail from Steve Lensman, a text from my wife and a phone call from son #2 about his passing.

Can you guess which movie I am watching?
Hey RIP Willy….those are some great quotes for sure. That is a movie that I think gets better with each passing year.
I was shocked when I saw the news that Gene Wilder had died. I was a huge fan.
Blazing Saddles and Young Frankenstein are two of my favorite and most watched comedies. I saw Young Frankenstein at the cinema back in the 70s, couldn’t stop laughing. I will watch it again along with Blazing Saddles during the week as a tribute to Gene.
I’ve seen 16 of the 22 films listed. Other favorites include – The Woman in Red, Bonnie and Clyde, The Producers, Silver Streak and Stir Crazy.
Believe it or not I saw Willy Wonka for the first time a few years ago, after I watched the Tim Burton version. Not a huge fan of either version. Maybe if I had grown up with it like millions of other kids did I’d rate it higher.
The films I haven’t seen are – Rhinoceros, Quackser Fortune, Little Prince, Funny About Love, Sunday Lovers and Start the Revolution Without Me.
I’m interested in seeing that last one.
Young Frankenstein tops the charts, perfecto, in my opinion the greatest film spoof ever made.
Blazing Saddles is the most successful of his films and I think at the time it was the biggest grossing comedy of all time, and possibly the highest grossing western ever too, Bruce?
A nice tribute to one of the great comedy legends! Voted Up!
(What a horrible year for celebrity deaths!)
Hey Steve.
1. Your e-mail was pretty shocking…..especially since I never heard any news that he was sick.
2. Young Frankenstein’s Blazing Saddles would make a good tribute Wilder double feature….as for me I will be loading up Willy Wonka soon. I am shocked you did not see that one when you were younger……it was our generation’s Hunger Games.
3. So your tally is at 16….I am at 12….pretty sure I saw Haunted Honeymoon too…..but I can not remember anything about the movie other than it was not his best work.
4. Of the ones you have not seen…..I think Start The Revolution Without Me sounds the best.
5. I think Duel in the Sun still tops the all time western box office charts.
Thanks for the news, the visit and the comment.
wilder and pryor made some hillarious movies!
Hey Travis….I would say they made 3 funny movies….but the less said about Another You…..the better. Thanks for the visit.
Blazing Saddles is my favorite movie of all time. Wilder’s Waco Kid was a perfect role for him. I agree with Entertainment Weekly his funniest role was in Young Frankenstein.
Rest in Peace. Gene Wilder.
Hey Xavier….I agree RIP Gene Wilder.
Hey Xavier…his Waco Kid was one of his great to,Es for sure. Though I think Young Frankenstein is his best performance as an actor. Thanks for the comment.
