This is the sixth in a new series of “Getting to Know”  Pages from Ultimate Movie Rankings.com.   Our interview this time around is with UMR Hall of Famer SteinHoF16.   SteinHoF16 has been visiting UMR for 7 years now.  He is a Top 20 Commenter.   So we figured it was time to learn a little more about SteinHoF16.

Cogerson –  It has always interested me in knowing which thespian made the first impact on a person. Who was the first actor or actress that you knew by their actual name?

SteinHoF16–  Without a doubt that would be Clint Eastwood.  I remember my dad and my uncle always talking about him.  Seems like there was always an Eastwood movie playing at my house growing up.  My dad loved Kelly’s Heroes and Where Eagles Dare.  Those are two of the first movies I remember.

Cogerson – I love Kelly’s Heroes.  I actually got WoC to watch that a few weekends ago. It still is a very entertaining movie as it quickly approaches it’s 50th birthday.

Cogerson – Is there a person in your life that pushed you down the path of liking movies?  For me, it was my parents and my grandmother.

SteinHoF16–  My dad was a big influence, but I would say my uncle was the bigger influence.  He is 16 years younger than my dad, and only 5 years older than me.   During my pre-teen and teen years my uncle lived with us.  I had access to lots of R-rated movies through him, ones my dad did not approve of me watching, but every late Saturday night it was me, my uncle and movies like 48 Hours, Scarface, Body Double and a VHS machine.  Good memories.

Cogerson – When I was younger, I was convinced that Disney’s Gus was the greatest movie of all-time.  Today, I realize, though it might be the best mule playing football movie, it is not very good.  What movies did little SteinHoF16 think were awesome when he was a kid?

SteinHoF16 –  I think I am a little younger than you, so Gus was a little before my time,  but I have seen it.   As for my Gus?  I would go with a movie called Turk182.  It starred Timothy Hutton and I used to think it was awesome and how life worked, turns out it is not awesome and life does not work like that at all.  Then again, Banksy, is a graffiti superstar.

Cogerson –  I remember that movie.  Pretty sure Bob Clark directed that one. Bob Clark of Porky’s and A Christmas Story fame….and in “my world of favorites”the director of From The Hip.

Cogerson –  Buying my first ticket to an R-rated movie was a big deal back in the day.  Do you remember the first R-Rated movie you got a ticket for?

SteinHoF16 – My uncle got me into plenty of R-rated movies, but I never bought those tickets.  I turned 17 in 1989 and I know I saw  Road House in theaters with my friends.  So unless there was a movie before that I will go with that one.  FYI. I had to look it up.  Road House opened in May of 1989.  I turned 17 in April of 1989, so it has to be that one.

Cogerson – Wow….Road House!  That one has developed a nice following since it first came out.

Cogerson –  What are your Top 3 movies of all-time? Or share as many as you are willing to share.

SteinHoF16 –  Just 3? That is a tough call.  I like both Die Hard and Pulp Fiction, but sorry I like Pulp Fiction more.  So that’s one.  Saving Private Ryan is a movie I re-watch the most, so that’s two.  As for my final movie give me the animated classic Heavy Metal.  That one has great music to go with great animation.  To name two more I really like, Shawshank Redemption and Stand By Me.  Two of the best Stephen King movie adaptations.

Cogerson – Well….at least Die Hard made the conversation.  I think the most interesting pick is Heavy Metal…..but I agree it is a good movie.

Cogerson –  What are some of your other favorite movie genres?

SteinHoF16 –  Hmmm.  I do not like dramas very often.  Horror is a genre I avoid.  So that leaves action, comedies and animation.

Cogerson – Do you have any favorite actors or actresses?

SteinHoF16–  Give me Tom Hanks and Angelina Jolie.  Hanks has been a movie star all my life. Making one quality movie after another.  I have probably seen 30 of his movies in theaters.  As for Jolie, a teenage crush that has never stopped. And now she is available.

Cogerson – I know it has been a while, but do you remember how you discovered UMR?

SteinHoF16 –  Wow, that was a long long time ago.  A friend of mine shared one of your tweets about a “new at the time” movie.  I do not remember the movie.  But I went to your site, it was not UltimateMovieRankings at the time, but you had a Hanks and Jolie breakdown.  I kept returning, and stayed quiet for a very long time.  At some point, I realized you responded to comments, and I tested you, and you came through. Good job, Cogerson!

Cogerson – Do you have any memorable movie experiences?   I remember seeing Porky’s in theaters.  People were laughing so hard, I thought the walls might crumble.

SteinHoF17 – I knew this question was coming. I liked the answers PhilHoF17 and Laurent provided.  The only thing I can think of was seeing the Pirates of the Caribbean sequels and how the audiences were screaming at the action on the scream.  The loudest screams were when Jack Sparrow kissed Elizabeth Swan at the of part 2 and when Will Turner and the Flying Dutchman ship popped up out of the water at the end of part 3.

Cogerson – And finally…..ever had the chance to meet any movie stars in person?

SteinHoF16 – The closest I came to meeting a celebrity was years ago at an amusement park roller coaster ride.    As we finally got to the front of the line to get on the coaster, the park workers told us that we had to wait a little longer.  Seconds later, Luke Perry and a little group of people came up the exit ramp and got to ride our rollercoaster.   I should acknowledge to this day, one of my friends claims it was not Perry but another Beverly Hills alumni, Jason Priestley that took our rollercoaster.  Not thinking if that mystery will ever be solved, but in my mind, it was Perry not Priestley.

Cogerson –  Thank you SteinHoF16 for taking the time to answer these questions.  Your absence on UMR has been missed.  You are truly deserving of your UMR Hall of Fame status.
