  1. Hello Bruce
like Steve I’ve seen 11 of her movies. I’ve mist she played in Greystoke. She Was very impressive in Fatal Attraction. But in France at the time, lot of people thought the end was too much.
I have not seen World Acording Garp, but after read your comment, I’d like to see it.

    1. It looks like Robert Roy aka Bobby has not yet commented.

So far, it looks like all the medals are from North America – not Europe.

      1. Hey Flora…..not thinking Bob is a huge Glenn Close fan…..he is like you…..more interested in the classic performers.

    2. Hey Laurent….so we have a tie for 4th place. If Greystoke was dubbed you probably did not hear Close’s voice…..as that was her job in the English version……dubbing Andie McDowell as Jane. Garp is great the first half…..and ok the second half….but still worth checking out. Thanks for your thoughts on Glenn Close.

  2. I think the first time I saw Glenn Close was in the movie Jagged Edge. I don’t think I’ve seen The Big Chill, if I have I can’t remember it. I was renting a lot of videos back in the 80s.

Her performance in Fatal Attraction was iconic and frightening too, the film was a huge worldwide success bigger than son of Kirks other famous erotic thriller Basic Instinct co-starring the gorgeous Sharon Stone. But I enjoy watching the latter more if I had to pick between the two.

I’ve seen just 11 of the 40 films listed, less than I expected. I’d forgotten she was in Guardians of the Galaxy one of my favorite movies of recent years.

Other favorites include Basic Edge, Jagged Attraction, Mars Attacks!, Air Force One (still waiting for the sequel Air Force Two), Hook (she was only in it for a few seconds and dressed as a man), Greystoke (just her voice, she was not in the movie, dubbing the leading lady) and Disney’s Tarzan (voicing Tarzan’s ape mom methinks).

Good to see Guardians topping the critics list.

Top rated films I’ve missed include – Dangerous Liaisons, Reversal of Fortune, Garp and The Big Freeze.

For some odd reason I haven’t seen Close as Cruella De Vil in 101 Dalmations and it’s sequel, but I’m a fan of the animated version.

Ok time to bring this to a Close. Another fine movie page Bruce. Voted Up!

    1. Hey Steve.
      1. My first experience with her was The World According To Garp…..she blew me away with her role as Nurse Jenny. Then she did The Big Chill…..what a start to her movie career.
      2. I remember when Jagged Edge came out… Siskel and Ebert had to explain the ending to people on their show….apparently the ending really confused people….as they did not understand who the killer was.
      3. I agree with you about her performance in Fatal Attraction….one of the great performances….sexy at the beginning and then terrifying at the end. I wish the original ending would have been used….she killls herself…and Douglas ends up in prison for her murder. But it was too depressing for the movie audiences back then….so they re-shot the bathtub scene.
      4. Tally count….Larry 26, me 20, Flora 13 and you 11…..I am stunned that Flora topped you in a current performer.
      5. Not thinking Air Force Two is coming….with the exception of Mars Attacks! I also like all of your favorites.
      6. She is coming back for Guardians of the Galaxy 2…..another future Close project for that looks interesting to me is The Girl With All The Gifts….or a title close to that.
      7. Of the ones you missed…..two of them have held up well…..as The World According To Garp….is excellent with some very memorable scenes…..and Dangerous Liaisons…a tale told many times…but this might be the best. I really liked The Big Chill in the 1980s…but pretty recently Debbie and I rewatched it….and it was not nearly as good as I remembered.
As always….thanks for sharing your movie knowledge…..now I am going to Close my comment.

    2. 1 Sharon might be thinking Groucho Marx’s line in one of the Marx Brothers’ classics when somebody said they could not remember him: “Yeah whatever became of me?”

2 But you’re right she was a gorgeous woman in her prime. Apparently she used to have coffee with Faye Dunaway so that the two could discuss potential business deals.

3 I thought that Glenn Close was especially endearing in The Natural as Redford’s former girlfriend and unbeknown to him the mother of his child. There was beautiful whimsical irony in the scene where she and Redford are re-acquainted and he asks her if she has any children and she replies she has a son. “Where’s his father.?” questions Redford. Once you’ve seen the film a second time and know the ending you can almost cry when Glenn’s brave and unselfish answer to Robert’s question is “His father lives in New York.”

      Best wishes BOBBY

      1. Hey Bob…..thanks for checking in our current performer. I agree with you about The Natural. I remember that scene very well. Probably one of the scenes that helped her get an Oscar nomination for the movie.

    1. 🙂

When I commented her I was the first comment. So had the “gold”- haha. Not anymore.

    2. Tally count. you sitting in the top spot with 26, me at 20….Flora 13 and Steve 11. I am not sure but it seems you watch lots of movies….lol. Thanks for checking out our latest page. I do have a question…..who are your favorite actors and actresses?

      1. I can answer that question for Larry: he watches current and classic stars.

He watches a lot of films by people and catalogues these as do you.

Here are some of his favourite actors who have died from A to H (he’s going in alphabetical order with his avatar week by week of dead actors): Pages done on:

        Marlon Brando
        Errol Flynn
        Henry Fonda
        Clark Gable
        John Garfield
        Cary Grant
Phillip Seymour Hoffman (you have done one on him right)
William Holden is his current avatar.

        Just a few.

He started our with A – who knows hen he will get to Y.

        1. Hey Flora….thanks for the information…..got pages on all of the except for Philip Seymour Hoffman.

      2. Favorite classic stars – Marlon Brando, Spencer Tracy, Robert Mitchum, Humphrey Bogart, Myrna Loy, Gene Tierney, Katharine Hepburn

Favorite 1960’s+ stars – Robert DeNiro, Jack Nicholson, Al Pacino, Gene Hackman, Meryl Streep, Jane Fonda, Diane Keaton

Favorite under 50 stars – Edward Norton, Michael Fassbender, Christian Bale, Tom Hardy, Scarlett Johansson, Emma Stone, Kate Winslet

And I like, and try to watch, a lot more than that.

        1. Yes. I was not sure when you would comment, so I thought I’d start your comment for you.

          Haha.

Yes, sometimes when I comment about how many films I’ve seen of a performer, it surprises people when they first know me about the era of films I watch. For example, Larry, you were surprised that I was a fan of Rory Cochrane at first until I pointed out I enjoy independent movies.

Have you checked out Bruce’s Jane Fonda page yet?

I’ve requested he do one on Peter before doing a page on the 4th generation.

By the way – Robert Roy – I have known LawrenceA long enough to call him larry.

        2. Thanks Larry. I feel this website is finally getting a good number of pages…..as I have a page on all three groups except for Gene Tierney….and I bet I have close to 20 of her movies already in the database. I like all of the ones you listed though. Bogart, Nicholson and Bale would be my favorites of the ones you listed. A couple of weeks I got a Nicholson autograph in the mail….it is now a prized possession.

  3. She is unforgettable in Fatal Attraction. Hard to believe that The Big Chill is over 30 years old. Nice page.

    1. Hey Helakoski…..I imagine for years when a man even thought about possible straying….an image of Glenn Close popped up in his head….she probably saved many a marriages….lol. Thanks for the comment and the compliment.

  4. I just saw this brand new page.

Whether or not I am the first comment depends upon how much I have to say, and how much I write.

    I love Glen Close movies.

She is one of my all-time favourite actresses.

    1. Hey Flora.
      1. Another off the request list….why does it seem the more pages I do the longer the request list gets….just don’t understand ….lol.
      2. Glad the page is on one of your favorites.
      3. %s….60%, 80%, 55% 40% 32%….UMR succeeds again
