Want to know the best Glenn Ford movies? How about the worst Glenn Ford movies? Curious about Glenn Ford’s box office grosses or which Glenn Ford movie picked up the most Oscar® nominations? Need to know which Glenn Ford movie got the best reviews from critics and audiences and which got the worst reviews? Well you have come to the right place….because we have all of that information.
One of our first requested pages (5 years and 2 website homes ago) was for Glenn Ford (1916-2006). So why the delay? The main reason is that we generally stay away from Columbia Pictures performers. The reason for this reluctance, is the fact that it is almost impossible to find box office numbers for Columbia Pictures movies from 1930 to 1980. Getting box office numbers is one of the most important factors in our rankings. Recently we got another request for Ford. A deeper look into Ford’s career showed that many of his movies made Variety’s Top Grossing yearly movie charts. So Søren, Flora, William, Hinton66 and Tom….finally here is your requested page.
Glenn Ford (1916-2006) was a Canadian-born American Golden Globe® winning actor. Ford’s acting career covered 7 decades…from the 1930s to the 1990s. His IMDb page shows 110 acting credits from 1937-1991. This page ranks Glenn Ford movies from Best to Worst in six different sortable columns of information. Television shows, shorts, and movies not released in North America were not included in the rankings.

Hi, Bruce.
I watched a couple of Glenn Ford comedies for the first time recently that I had recorded on PVR:
One was his Golden Globes nominated Don’t Go Near the Water, a delightful service comedy with a lot of great supporting players.
The other was the comedy Young Man with Ideas, a comedy which was fun, although not as fun as Don’t Go Near the Water. I wrote a review of it on TCM where I had an interesting time with the editing feature……
Hey Flora….thanks for the mini-reviews on Don’t Go Near The Water and Young Man With Ideas. I will have to check out your review on TCM and the movie. Thanks for the update.
One of my favourites! Classic star that made so many classic movies.
I agree Carol Ann….this page has been a nice surprise with lots of comments and views…..thinking I should have done a page on him a long time ago.
I added It Started With a Kiss to my seen list of Glenn Ford movies today. It was fun, but I prefer his other movie with Debbie better.
I have also recorded Glenn Ford movies Don’t Go Near The Water and Young Man With Ideas which I have never seen.
Cheers,
Flora
Hey Flora….thanks for the update. Don’t Go Near The Water got Ford one of his Golden Globe nominations….hopefully it will be a good one. I have not heard much about Young Man With Ideas….hoping the same think for that one too. Enjoy them whenever you get the chance to watch them.
It’s in the I JUST WATCHED section.
It was published on February 6th-you will have to go deep into that thread as it is very popular. You will be able to notice it as having a special look to it as it is contained in a bubble.
No Blondie Plays Cupid featuring Glenn. His frequent femme fatale Rita Hayworth is in Blondie on a Budget. Of course as you say they’re Columbia and B films. I’ve never seen box office for any of the 28 Blondie films (1938 to 1950).
Hey Dan. Yep I had no luck with Blondie Plays Cupid. I got lucky with Blondie on a Budget when I was doing the Hayworth page. I have been trying to do a Peter Lorre page for awhile…..but like the Blondie movies…..there is little information out there on his Mr. Moto movies…which makes doing a Lorre page very difficult when you can not include his most famous movie series. Thanks for the comment.
There’s no info even on Charlie Chan flics from the same studio (Fox) and later Monogram and I think there are 48 of them.
Hey Dan….yep the Charlie Chan box office appears to be a big secret too. 48 sounds about right.
I had know idea he was so successful. Top star of 1958 even. Well done.
Hey OU812…Van Halen fan? Yep …Glenn Ford had a pretty stellar movie career….with the 1956 to 1959 years being his peak. Thanks for stopping by.
