Want to know the best Glenn Ford movies? How about the worst Glenn Ford movies? Curious about Glenn Ford’s box office grosses or which Glenn Ford movie picked up the most Oscar® nominations? Need to know which Glenn Ford movie got the best reviews from critics and audiences and which got the worst reviews? Well you have come to the right place….because we have all of that information.
One of our first requested pages (5 years and 2 website homes ago) was for Glenn Ford (1916-2006). So why the delay? The main reason is that we generally stay away from Columbia Pictures performers. The reason for this reluctance, is the fact that it is almost impossible to find box office numbers for Columbia Pictures movies from 1930 to 1980. Getting box office numbers is one of the most important factors in our rankings. Recently we got another request for Ford. A deeper look into Ford’s career showed that many of his movies made Variety’s Top Grossing yearly movie charts. So Søren, Flora, William, Hinton66 and Tom….finally here is your requested page.
Glenn Ford (1916-2006) was a Canadian-born American Golden Globe® winning actor. Ford’s acting career covered 7 decades…from the 1930s to the 1990s. His IMDb page shows 110 acting credits from 1937-1991. This page ranks Glenn Ford movies from Best to Worst in six different sortable columns of information. Television shows, shorts, and movies not released in North America were not included in the rankings.

FLORA:
1 Actually Glenn Ford is on record in a TV interview that I watched live as saying that he is definitely NOT ORIGINALLY from Canada. I will explain that to you in detail when Bruce does his update on Glenn’s grosses and I post the response that I plan.
2 If I say too much now I will have insufficient material for a comprehensive post when Bruce’s update arrives.
Hope your cold gets better and you have a good night’s sleep.
GLENN WAS BORN IN QUEBEC CITY.
THAT MAKES HIM CANADIAN IN TERMS O
I LOVE GLENN FORD.
1 Glenn is a very nostalgic part of my boyhood and I have spent many happy times watching his films. The first western that I actually can remember seeing at the age of 10 is the 1951 The Redhead and the Cowboy starring Glenn and the lovely Rhonda Fleming who was my favourite 50s actress.
2 However he insisted in a TV interview in England that he was NOT born in Quebec City but simply lived there from a certain point.
3 We are in Bruce’s hands as to when I can let you have full details of the TV interview because only he can produce the update that will trigger my full post on the subject. I hope that Bruce does that update soon as I am just itching to do the post as I regard Glenn very highly.
4 By the way it must be serendipity because many of us have been banging on all day about How Green Was My Valley and I have just watched an episode of Frasier where he goes to great lengths to track down a video of that film and then spends the rest of the episode seeking peace to watch it.
Sleep tight young Flora.
BOBBY
thanks. iT IS ONLY 3:18 NOW. MY TIME BUT IT IS ACTUALLY THUNDER AND LIGHTNING.
Love your poetry Bobby.
I would love it if you simply gave me the link to the TV article.
Do not worry about the timing.
AS I said before, I waited 5 years for this page.
And it is actually trending.

Hope you had a good night’s sleep and your cold is receding.
1 When I do a fresh post on a star I like to check any previous posts of mine on that person so that I don’t repeat information I have already given. Checking is easier if such information is confined to one post.
2 However generally you have been very helpful to me regarding research so I will break my rule and now give you the relevant part of my new Glenn Ford post.
3 Glenn was a believer in reincarnation and thought that his first life was largely spent as a Spanish soldier on a slave ship. Therefore he saw himself as originally a Spaniard and regarded Canada as just one of many places that he had lived temporarily as he progressed through his lives over the centuries. .
4 He believed that immediately before he became ‘Glenn Ford’ he was Charlie Bill Stuart from Scotland who for a time lived Out West in the States and over the years Glenn had searched in vain for Charlie Bill’s grave.
5 He came to England in the mid 60s with his new young wife Kathryn and was interviewed on TV by the BBC. Aware of his search the BBC had located Charile Bill’s grave in a remote part of the Highlands of Scotland and they surprised Glenn by flashing up the grave on a studio screen; whereupon a shocked Glenn clutched Kathryn and said “Oh my goodness! That’s me down there.”
6 I am not sure if Kathryn shared Glenn’s beliefs but if she did she must have assumed that he had also had many sex lives. I make that point because in one of your posts you raised the issue of Glenn’s sex life.
7 You’d do well if you now quickly turned up that half century old interview but if you wish for general confirmation of the authenticity of what I have been saying please access Google on;
“Glenn Ford. Reincarnated. Paranormal. BellaOnline.
which will explain that under hypnosis Glenn could recall details of 5 envisaged former lives and was also able to play the piano. That was something he had never done as Glenn Ford but a professional piano teacher had been – Charlie Bill Stuart. Creepy!
Hey Bob….not sure Flora has seen this post yet…..but it offers up some interesting observations on Mr. Ford. He is not the only one that believes in reincarnation. Shirley MacLaine (who has been very very good to this website and to us) is another believer. That is some very specific memories….Charlie Bill Stuart. That would be a good tv show to watch on You Tube. I will google that after finishing these comments. Sounds interesting and as you say “creepy”.
I know that.
What I men by that it is that on the TCM web forum, someone named Tisher Price who is a new fan of Greg, made reference to the fact that he and Bergman had a relationship and that the Pecks nearly divorced over this:
Hey Flora and Bob….interesting comments on Mr. Ford. Looks like I need to drop one column off….as it is running into the links. The good news is I think I can actually find box office on some of the missing movies. As for his sex life…please remember that this is a PG at most rated website…though we actually strive for a G rating….lol.
Bruce;
Heads up that this Sunday on May 1st, Glenn Ford would have turned 100 years old.
Because it is a Sunday, and TCM is not airing his movies during the daytime, he is the primetime Double Feature. They are airing:
1. Gilda – my FAVOURITE!
2. A Stolen Life
Top Billed on TCM wanted them to show Westerns, but I imagine he will be strongly featured in the planned two month look at Westerns.
Have been trying to locate a film of his. The film relates to the aftermath of a nuclear attack and he is trying to save his family. He stops a freeway with petrol bombs and ends up taking refuge in a cave. Good to know that Glenn was quite fast on the draw.
Hey Barry…..mmmm….interesting question. I have not seen the movie you are talking about…..but taking a guess it sounds like a movie called Virus…which is also known as Day of Resurrection…made in 1980.
Hey Flora….if you read this comment…..do you have any idea which movie Barry is looking for? I bow to your Glenn Ford knowledge.
This is a Japanese movie made in 1980. It is the one you mentioned, and I have yet to see it.
But imdb has it listed under its Japanese name. I imagine it was actually made in Japan.
Hey Flora….I did a “post-apocalyptic Glenn Ford” google search and this is the only movie that came up. Virus can actually be seen on you tube….quality is terrible….but I scanned around looking for a “cave” scene but did not see one. Thanks for the help.
Bruce:
I’ve created a Glenn Ford Fans Here Thread in the favourite section of the TCM forum and added a link to this page.
Thank you Flora….that is greatly appreciated.
