He started off so strong. The last few years have not been kind to the former Mr. Madonna. I have no desire to see his latest movie. Aladdin just looks off.
Hey SteinHoF16…..I love Lock Stock and Two Smoking Barrels, like Snatch and I surprisingly liked The Man From Uncle. I have heard great things about Aladdin, despite it’s lukewarm reviews….I will be checking that one out when it reaches home entertainment. Good feedback.
I have never warmed to my personal impression of Guy Ritchie’s movies and therefore I have not watched one of them. Certainly the fact that he has worked with Jason Statham would not encourage me to become a late Ritchie convert!!
Guy’s box office record is not at the moment vertiginous with for example only three of his movies crashing the magical Cogerson 100 million adjusted domestic barrier. Aladdin of course has just opened and strongly at that, but with a budget of $183 million, to earn enough rentals to just break-even it would probably need to gross about $500 million worldwide. However from the latest box office figures I have seen [just over $200 million worldwide, including the domestic $112 mil you quote] it is over two thirds of the way there already.
Anyway Guy’s personal commercial success has been enormous with his own net worth said to be $150 million. Accordingly he is deserving of this new page, which with Aladdin doing the popular rounds is highly topical at present, so well done Work Horse!
Hey Bob….I can bring them Guy Ritchie’s movies into three different groups. Three of them I really really liked. Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels, Sherlock Holmes and The Man From Uncle. Snatch, Sherlock 2 and Rock N Rolla….I liked them, but they are not ones that beg to be re-watch. And then there are Swept Away, Revolver and King Arthur. I did not like any of these movies at all. Swept Away was an ugly mess and a poor attempt at a remake. But if Madonna was my wife and wanted me to direct her in that movie….thinking I probably would as well. I am curious about Aladdin. So far critical response has been lukewarm…but audiences seem to be really enjoying it. I read one review of it, that I think described it perfectly with how I feel about…..it is like a stage show of a popular movie. It covers the same bases, it just is not the same and not nearly as good. It will interesting to see which group Guy’s Aladdin falls into. If I had to guess. I would lean towards the middle group. Good feedback as always.
HI BRUCE
Thanks for the feedback
IMDB credits Guy with 8 acting awards and 10 nominations. That’s not a lot considering how those are thrown about like confetti at a wedding nowadays. However
1/Guy has made just 10 films to date.
2/Anyone who is associated with Statham and Madonna in movies is lucky to get even the awards that Guy was given. Even The Meg couldn’t win one with Jason as its co-star!
It’s not just a question of directing a movie YOU would probably do ANYTHING your wife wanted you to do – and rightly so!!
Nice try. ANY person who hasn’t seen ANY Guy R movie is just plain DENSE.
Hey Jason…I agree with you on about half of his movies….the other half have some concerns…..good feedback.
I’ve seen 8 of the 10 Guy Ritchie films on the chart, the two I haven’t seen are Swept Away and Aladdin.
The 8 I’ve seen are in my movie collection. I enjoyed the two Sherlock Holmes movies and RocknRolla, my least favorite is Revolver.
The Man from UNCLE has grown on me, I was disappointed with it on first viewing, spoilt by the likes of Bond and Mission Impossible. It is what it is. A tribute to the glossy spy thrillers of the 60s, I also liked the soundtrack music.
Ritchie’s first movie Lock Stock is no.1 on the critics chart, followed by Snatch, his second film… interesting. Sherlock Holmes 1-2 tops the UMR and box office charts. Let’s see where Aladdin ends up.
Good stuff Bruce. Vote Up!
Hey Steve. Thanks for checking out our Guy Ritchie page. It is slow out of the gate. But now the comments are up to 2. Views have been decent. I have seen 9 of the 10 movies. Thankfully neither of my little ones want to see Aladdin…but I will see it when it reaches home entertainment venues. I am right there with you on Revolver. With that cast…it should have been awesome…instead it is a confusing mess of a movie. I was actually shocked by how much I enjoyed The Man From UNCLE…it actually made my Top 10 movies of that year. I also have enjoyed the Holmes movies (especially the first one…better villain) and look forward to the third one. I liked Snatch…but love Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels. That movie blew me away when I first saw it. As for Swept Away…..you are not missing anything by not seeing it. IT is even worse than Revolver. Good stuff.
