Harrison Ford Adjusted World Wide Box Office Grosses
Possibly Interesting Facts About Harrison Ford.
1. Harrison Ford was born on July 13th 1942 in Chicago, Illinois. He arrived in Hollywood in 1964 and signed a contract with Columbia Pictures that paid him $150 a week.
2. Harrison Ford first 12 years of making movies were filled with many uncredited parts and small quickly forgotten speaking parts. The highlight during this time frame would be his small roles in 1973’s American Graffiti and 1974’s The Conversation…both were nominated for Oscars® for Best Picture but neither movie really helped his career.
3. By 1976, Ford turned towards his carpentry skills to support his family. He was hired by George Lucas to build some cabinets for the Lucas house. Ford was building the cabinets at the same time Lucas was trying to cast actors for his latest movie. One thing lead to another and Ford found himself with a starring role in a little film called Star Wars.
4. Harrison Ford has been married three times in his life. He has two sons from his first marriage to Mary Marquard, he has a son and a daughter from his second marriage to Melissa Matheson and is currently married to actress Calista Flockhart.
5. His second wife, Melissa Matheson wrote the screenplay for E.T. The Extra Terrestrial. Ford actually played the part of Elliott’s teacher but the part was cut at the last minute. Now that is a deleted scene that I really want to see.
6. Harrison Ford has only been nominated for one Oscar® ….Best Actor for Witness. He does have 4 Golden Globe® nominations…those were for Witness, The Mosquito Coast, The Fugitive and Sabrina.
7. In 2000, Harrison Ford proved he could be a hero in real life as well as on the screen. Ford piloted his helicopter to rescue a dehydrated hiker on Table Mountain near his house in Wyoming.
8. Roles Harrison Ford turned down or was seriously considered for: Dragonheart, The Hunt for Red October, Vanilla Sky, Jurassic Park, Syriana, JFK, The Untouchables, Dick Tracy, Proof of Life, Schlinder’s List, The Perfect Storm, Who Framed Roger Rabbit and Alien.
9. Harrison Ford says his favorite movie that he performed in is….. The Mosquito Coast….and the most frustrating film he acted in was …..Blade Runner. Ford says Deckard was human….Ridley Scott the director says Deckard was a replicant….put me on the side that Deckard was human

I first noticed Harrison Ford in Force 10 From Navarone many years ago. His role was only a support actor, but he performed it convincingly. Like most fine wines, he has only gotten better with age. Blade Runner is still a favorite, although it’s hard to turn away from any of his efforts
Hey rcrumple…..thanks for the comment and the visit….I actually saw Force Ten From Navarone at the theater…Ford was coming off the hit Star Wars….and had to play second fiddle to Robert Shaw….pretty sure it was Robert Shaw’s last movie. I think he made three movies between Star Wars movies and each pretty much failed…Force Ten, The Frisco Kid and Hanover Street. I think after Empire he started to really look at scripts and had the magic touch from 1980 to about 1996. Hopefully he still has some magic left in him as he has 4 movies coming out in the next few years. I appreciate the kind words about my movie page…they are greatly appreciated.
I remember reading somewhere that apparently Tom Selleck was originally meant to play Indiana Jones, but he had to turn it down because of commitments to Magnum PI, so Harrison got the call instead. You have to say that despite the fact that Harrison was second choice, he really excelled as Indiana Jones, more so than Han Solo. Also liked him in Air Force One- the coolest US President ever.
Hey JKenny….the fact that Tom Selleck was first choice and Harrison Ford was the second emergency choice is a legendary Hollywood story….it really makes you wonder how movie history would have changed if Selleck had been Indy. I think Ford would still have stayed big…..just probably not as big as he became….I think Selleck would have probably agreed to more sequels sooner than Ford….so I think with Selleck Indy 7 or 8 would be in production versus Indy 5…thanks for a great comment.
I really liked Regarding Henry since it was outsidfe of his normal “hero who deson’t look like a hero” roles.
One minor point: his wife’s name is Calista not Clarissa as you have in your interesting facts section. Otherwise, good
Hey First Colony….thanks for the visit and the typo alert….just goes to show you should always check your work….I was very careful spelling the first two wives….but thought I could get the third one right….but nope….but it has been fixed.
Regarding Henry is not a movie I liked the first time around…but over the years I have come around….I guess I could not get over him being such an evil cheating person at the beginning of the movie. But now that I am older I realize that sadly there are many men like that.
You are the master of these movie pages! Well done! My personal favorites were Blade Runner and The Witness, although in truth I’ve never seen a move by him that I didn’t like.
Hey billybuc….I think the 1980s were his peak….he had the box office hits….the critical hits….and every single one of his movies became an “event movie”…..that time period would include Blade Runner and Witness…..I think my favorite Ford moment is in Witness….when he is riding on the wagon with Amish group….and he gets into a fight…classic moment that only Ford could have done so well….thanks for the visit.
One of my all time favorite heroes.. i could never forget his Han Solo and Indy – I pretty much love his world weary expression and the everyman attitude to movies. This hub more than does justice to all things Ford and I fully agree that he deserves an Oscar asap. This guy has done more for Hollywood coffers than many others. I think the Cogerson movie score should become industry standard! ( a small typo – his current wife is called Calista Flockhart and not Clairssa).voted up and awesome, Bruce!
Hey Docmo….thanks for the typo error… I will fix that right after sending this comment. I am glad you agree with me about giving Ford a Honorary Oscar…..seems that not many people agree with us….I have heard about a James Garner petition for one….but not one for Ford. I think he is probably the closest we have to Humphrey Bogart today….it least in my opinion. Thanks for stopping by.
