  1. Added Steve’s Harvey Keitel Video To This Page.

Just saw him in The Ridiculously Six the other day (catching up on Netflix movies these days). Overall I have seen 43 of his movies….and 33 of the ones listed here. Favorites would include #2 Pulp Fiction, #3 Reservoir Dogs (without Harvey Keitel there might be no Quentin T.) #21 National Treasure, #31 The Two Jakes…underrated sequel to a classic and #10 Bugsy. Lots of Martin Scorsese movies in the video…he has probably been in more Marty movies than anybody….but takes the back seat to Bobby D. and Leo D. when thinking of stars of Scorsese movies. Voted up and shared

  2. I rated your Keitel video 98% for personal satisfaction. You and WH agree on just 2 of the Top 5 best reviewed. Normally it would surprise me that he has your No 3 Reservoir Dogs as low as 6th. Why then am I NOT surprised? Because dropping Reservoir Dogs out of the top 5 allows Mr Gimme More into the 5 with Moonrise Kingdom. When you know The Work Horse’s ways as I do you’ll soon be famiiar with his tricks!

  4. HI STEVE: From the ridiculous back to the sublime: after that pesky Joe we are thankfully again in the situation where I can admire your pictorials AND your actor

In terms of top stardom it’s possible that Harvey is a “nearly man”. Coppola signed him for the plumb part of Willard in Apocalypse Now but after some scenes had been shot Francis decided for some reason that Keitel didn’t suit the role and he was replaced by Martin Sheen who went on to achieve a respectable measure of stardom.

Still Harvey’s big screen output has been enormous and WH lists 74 movies for him. The Keitel performances that I have most liked are: Bugsy; Bad Lieutenant; The Piano; Reservoir Dogs and recently Youth with Sir Maurice. As well as his big screen work Harvey has appeared in 18 television productions from 1966-2016.

I should add that his dismissal from Apocalypse Now didn’t deny him the opportunity of working with The Great Mumbler because in fact Harvey’s debut was in the uncredited role of a soldier in 1967’s Reflections in a Golden Eye starring Brando and Liz Taylor.

Harvey has a reported net worth of $45 million; and IMDB credits him with 27 acting awards and 23 noms. He has just completed the big screen drama Fatima; has two other movies at post- production stage; and has yet one more at pre-production stage. In 3 out of those 4 he is the top billed star.

    1. Hi Bob, thanks for the review, generous review, info and trivia, much appreciated. Happy you liked the posters and stills.

Here in England we’re used to seeing Harvey Keitel in adverts for home insurance, not sure if the ads also play on Irish TV.

I thought about including Moonrise Kingdom but from what I remember Keitel only had a small role so I included Isle of Dogs instead, from the same director. Keitel probably had an even smaller role in the animated film but I like the poster. 😉

Seven of Harvey’s films scored 10 out of 10 from my sources –

      Taxi Driver
      Pulp Fiction
      Reservoir Dogs
      Mean Streets
      The Piano
      Thelma and Louise
      The Grand Budapest Hotel

Two more scored 9 out of 10 – Alice Doesn’t Live Here Anymore and The Irishman.

“I don’t want people to think that awards amount to the value of an actor. Real success means involvement – to engage oneself totally in something. Unless you become involved, you will stay uninvolved. If money is your god, you will accumulate money, but little else. If you seek out the experience of something… you have a good chance to have a full life.”

      1. HI STEVE

Thanks for the feeback and scoring explanations.

Yes we get Harvey’s insurance ads here in Ireland.

I like Harvey’s quote that you have given me about awards not amounting to the value of an actor – Work Horse and others who worship at the feet of Oscar take note!

My son – you know: the one who is a great Ladd fan!!! – is very fond of Havey in Bad Lieutenant.

Hope you weekend is going well.

  5. It’s possible that Harvey is a “nearly man” in terms of movie stardom because as pointed out above he was originally cast in Apocalypse Now’s lead role only to be replaced by Marty Sheen on whom that movie did bestow stardom

For me among Harvey’s most standout performances are those in Reservoir Dogs which I think has become a cult film and 1992’s Bad Lieutenant which didn’t cut much ice with audiences but which is awarded a nice 73% rating by this site.

These days Harvey seems to advertise products on TV a lot but I was impressed with his performance in the 2015 Youth with Sir Maurice Micklewhite. For me it was refreshing to see two veterans act their age and yet turn in spellbinding, highly-entertaining performances. Clearly this site also appreciated Youth as it has a good 74% critical rating although again sadly not a great crowd pleaser.
