  1. Thanks for ranking! The Fountain is my favorite Hugh Jackman movie (followed by Les Miserables). I always wished The Fountain got more credit. It is an underrated movie, my favorite from Aronofsky, and Hugh Jackman is an underrated actor.

    1. Hey Theresa…..The Fountain is probably to complicated for mass audiences to enjoy. But Jackman’s performance is amazing in that one. It might have gotten ignored at the box office….but got decent reviews…..it is one of his fresh movies (over 60% when it comes to reviews). Maybe it will be a movie that gains stature as time passes. I will have to go back and rewatch that one…..that seems like a movie that is begging for repeat viewings….thanks for stopping by and commenting.

      1. Hi Cogerson, thank you for your kind response! I agree with what you said about The Fountain and Hugh’s performance in it. He was incredible and showed so much range, but I understand the audiences will not all connect with that type of movie. I very much appreciate the list you came up with. It was thoughtful and a lot went into it. Thanks again!

  2. Too bad the list does not include his Australian film credits. One of his best portrayals was in ERSKINEVILLE KINGS, for which he won an Australian acting award. It is a dramatic tale of the inner city in Sydney and focuses on the dysfunctional relationships in a family.

Nevertheless, the ranking of LES MISERABLES as his best film is well-deserved as the material itself is arguably the best dramatic musical on stage. His portrayal of Jean Valjean brought in new nuances and dramatic emphasis to the role which has focused too much on the singing rather than both singing and acting on stage. Jackman deserved the Oscar nomination for bringing to life one of literature’s most iconic characters! He could and should have won the Oscar for the role!

    1. Hey Monaco. Your comment has me interested in checking out Erskineville Kings. Although it played somewhere in Kansas….Box Office Mojo does not have any box office information for that movie….so I did not include it in the Jackman table. I did look at what critics and audiences said about the movie…and it has a 66.0% approval rating. That would put it at 13th in that category…..plus it is higher than the 60.0% Rotten Tomatoes says is a good movie. I agree with you about his performance in Les Miserables…..I was prepared to not like the movie….but his performance was amazing. Thanks for checking out my latest movie page.

      1. I own a copy of Erskineville Kings. It is only available on DVD for region 4, but if you are a huge fan of Hugh’s it is worth buying the DVD. Hugh’s performance is amazing in it, especially the last 25 or so minutes of the movie. Even though I live in the U.S., I was able to play the DVD on my laptop after switching the region on my computer.

        1. Very cool. Thanks for the information on one of his earliest movies. Before I wrote this page I was not even aware of that movie….now it is on my list of movies to watch.

  3. I love Hugh. Been a fan for years. Look forward to his career after hangs up his wolf claws. The best is yet to come. Can name my favourites because all of these movies are my favourites.

    1. Hey Hugh Fan For Live…thanks for stopping by. Really glad to see that you liked my Hugh page. He is off to a great start……good traffic and some good comments. Thanks again.

  4. Nicely done Bruce. Hugh Jackman is an underrated actor, check out Prisoners and Les Miserables for proof. He was very good as Logan aka Wolverine I’ll miss him when he retires from the role and they cast some teenage Brit actor in the reboot [wink].
Btw the X-Men producers wanted Dougray Scott for the role of Wolverine in 2000 but luckily for Jackman, Scott was still busy filming Mission Impossible II and couldn’t do it. the rest is history.
    I’ve seen 21 of the 25 films you’ve listed here. I still haven’t seen Kate & Leopold.
Pan was panned by the critics and isn’t a big hit. Spielberg’s Hook wasn’t exactly warmly received either but it did make a bit of money. Disney’s 1953 animated classic still the best version of the story I’m happy to say. Voted Up.

    1. Forgot to mention, my favorite X-Men movie is probably the second one but it’s good to see Days of Future Past topping the critics list. Les Mis topping the moviescore, I suppose that makes sense since it did get a lot of Oscar attention. I’ll recommend The Prestige if anyone hasn’t seen it yet.

      1. Glad your favorites did well in the rankings. I went back to the MovieScore as the default setting….because I liked how the equation worked out for his movies. I agree with you 100% about The Prestige….it is a wonderful movie….with lots of great twists and turns. Plus it has Michael Caine and Christian Bale….hard to top that.

    2. Hey Steve….thanks for checking out my latest. I would add The Prestige to the list you included as to his underappreciated acting skills. I bet Dougray Scott wishes he would have gone with X:Men versus MI. In hindsight….picking a one time bad guy or an iconic role for 20 years seems like a really bad break for Scott. My tally is 24…only Pan has escaped me….though I must admit my memory of Someone Like You is very cloudy…I know I have seen it….but can not remember very much about the movie. Without a doubt the 1953 version is the best of the bunch. Pan just looked bad…I kept thinking they would release another trailer that would make it look better….but they never did. Now it will be forever known as a huge bomb. As always…I appreciate your comment.
