Want to know the best James Bond movies? How about the worst James Bond movies? Curious about James Bond’s box office grosses or which James Bond movie picked up the most Oscar® nominations? Need to know which James Bond movie got the best reviews from critics and audiences and which got the worst reviews? Well you have come to the right place….because we have all of that information.
James Bond is one of the most successful movie franchises ever. There have been 27 James Bond movies since 1962’s Dr. No. Seven actors have played James Bond Sean Connery (7 times), Roger Moore (7 times), Pierce Brosnan (4 times), Timothy Dalton (2 times), Daniel Craig (5 times), George Lazenby and David Niven one time.
Sean Connery was my father and my uncle’s Bond. When I was growing up, Roger Moore was my Bond. My 27 year old son had Pierce Brosnan. My nineteen year old daughter is in love with her Bond… Daniel Craig. I have no doubt when my 7 year old is older, she will have her very own Bond.
This page will rank 26 James Bond movies from Best to Worst in seven different sortable columns of information. The Sean Connery film Never Say Never Again and the David Niven comedy Casino Royale have been included in the rankings.

James Bond Movies Can Be Ranked 6 Ways In This Table
The really cool thing about this table is that it is “user-sortable”. Rank the movies anyway you want.
- Sort James Bond movies by who played James Bond
- Sort James Bond movies by adjusted domestic box office grosses using current movie ticket cost (in millions)
- Sort James Bond movies by adjusted worldwide box office grosses using current movie ticket cost (in millions)
- Sort James Bond movies how they were received by critics and audiences. 60% rating or higher should indicate a good movie.
- Sort by how many Oscar® nominations and how many Oscar® wins each James Bond movie received.
- Sort James Bond movies by Ultimate Movie Rankings (UMR) Score. UMR Score puts box office, reviews and awards into a mathematical equation and gives each movie a score.
- Use the search and sort buttons to make this table very interactive…for example…you just want to see the Sean Connery Bond movies…..just type in Sean in the search box and up they pop.

Well, I still have not seen Dr. No, the films with Craig, or the films with Dalton. Although thanks to Steve I have seen the very first Bond-the tv movie and the trailer to Casino Royale since I started commenting on Steve’s Bond hubs. When considering best of anything, I usually prefer things that are not the most popular. I haven’t seen two of these actors, so I can’t tell for sure. But I still think The spy Who loved Me I would prefer over most other Bond films (see below).
Overall:
My favourite Bond is Connery, very closely followed by Moore and Brosnan. My favourite Connery film is Goldfinger. My favourite Moore film is The Spy Who loved Me, which also happens to my second favourite film overall. Although I do enjoy 2 of Pierce’s films more than his other two, I don’t love one film of his so clearly above everything else like I do with the previous Bonds. I am a big fan of Diana Rigg, so I have always enjoyed On Her Majesty’s Secret Service.
Looking at the Top Ten lists:
Box Office:
I have seen 9 of these.
Critics:
I have seen 7 of these.
Movie Score:
I have seen 9 of these.
Overall: I’ve already said which ones I have not seen, but the percentage is 75% (18 films).
Flora my favourite Roger Moore Bond film and 2nd fave overall is The Spy Who Loved Me. I watch that with Moonraker every Xmas, a tradition of mine. 🙂
And you can’t go wrong with Goldfinger, still the most famous Bond film of them all with the iconic villain, henchman, car, quote, song and image (Shirley Eaton dead and covered in gold paint)
That should read the percentage of films I HAVE seen… sigh.
Hey Steve….well I just finished putting up my outdoor Christmas decorations….so I assume you are watching James Bond in Starmoontreker. Which is what I call Moonraker….because the success of Star Wars and Star Trek….made the producers decide to make James Bond an astronaut so they could build little model space ships that would compete with Empire Strikes Back and Wrath of Khan.
I was already a big fan of Brosnan from Remmington Steele.
Hey Flora…I can easily see that you would have been a big fan of him in Remington Steele….that seems like the perfect show for you…it was one of my mom’s favorites as well…right up there with Hart to Hart. I liked Brosnan as Bond but I thought his last Bond movie, Die Another Day, was easily his worst Bond movie and up there with A View To Kill and Quantum of Solace as the worst Bond movies.
That tv show is responsible for me knowing the ending of several movies before I saw them for the first time. When I did see The sting for the first time I realized half way through that I knew exactly what the ending is. like the shower scene in Psycho, I’d love to know what my reaction would have been if the twist at the end had been a surprise.
Hey Flora…I am sure you are like me in that finding a movie that really surprises you is pretty hard. As many movies as I have seen a huge percentage of them seem to follow some pretty common storylines. I used to have a college professor who wished he could read Romeo and Juliet for the first time again. Sorry that Remington Steele spoiled so many movies…thanks for the comment.
I loved the series. I certainly didn’t mind at the time. 🙂 I had the series taped, but it’s in a box somewhere who knows where.
Hey Flora…the beauty of DVD…you can probably buy each season of Remington Steele for about 10 dollars now….and then you can get rid of all those tapes. Actually Black Friday I was seeing lots of shows with each season being in the 5 to 7 dollar range…including the great show Seinfeld…which was selling for 7.99 per season….and I payed about 30 dollars per season when they first came out…I should have waited.
Hey Flora, I had not realized you had not checked out this hub before….so you will have to take my word that the update makes this a much better hub. 75% Bond movies watched is actually pretty good, especially with so many of the movies made after you were born. Well my movie score system agrees with your favorites for Connery and Moore…as Goldfinger is #1 overall….and The Spy Who Loved Me is #8 overall….but Moore’s highest ranked movie. Diana Rigg is one of the best Bond women ever and the ending of On Her Majesty’s Secret Service is a sad but very memorable ending…thanks as always for your contributions to my movie pages.
Hoho this must have been the first hub of yours I commented on Cogers son, looking at my comment up above I was still a shy newbie here and was looking for someone with similar interests, someone who wasn’t into poetry and ‘God blessing’ everyone in sight. 🙂
Good to see you’ve updated the hub Bruce, now let me see how many I’ve seen… one, two three er all of them! 10 from the box office chart and gosh 10 from the critic chart too! A clean sweep! Do I win anything?
Okay yep thats accurate Thunderball at no.1 box office, sold more tickets than any other Bond and the only Bond film to be number one in it’s year of release, Goldfinger no.2 most popular. Ooh my fave You Only Live Twice did very well too, nice!
Onto your moviescore… I agree with pretty much all of it, thats never happened before Brucerson!! [bites fist]
Hey this is ironic, on your Sean Connery hub the related hubs box contained just my Bond hubs while here on your James Bond hub none of them appear, wow! Maybe I should have added the name James Bond before each title? 🙂
A super page on my favourite screen hero Cogerbruce! Kudos amigo!
Hey Steve Lensman…thanks for checking out the old hub 8 months ago and revisiting the hub today. I am also a perfect 25 for 25 in Bond movies. Wow….I need to print your comment out and put it on my wall…especially the following line…”Onto your moviescore… I agree with pretty much all of it”….hey there had to be a first time for that….lol. That is weird that your outstanding James Bond Illustrated Reference hubs did not make any of the related hubs…I wonder how they pick those hubs…..another thing that will remain a HubPage mystery. I am glad you like the update.
My brother and I were just discussing Bond flicks over the weekend (as he’d just borrowed some of my Bond DVDs)… I still have yet to see either of the Daniel Craig films but other than that I’ve seen just about every other movie in the Bond series at least once (with the possible exception of Lazenby’s “On Her Majesty’s Secret Service” – I honestly cannot remember if I’ve seen that one or not)… I grew up in the 70s/80s (i.e. the Roger Moore era) but even then I preferred Connery’s Bond, his films weren’t as goofy/light hearted as Moore’s tended to be.
I like Pierce Brosnan’s films a lot and thought he was superior to Moore and Dalton in the role by a long shot. I wish he’d stuck around longer.
Hey FatFreddysCat….thanks for checking out my Bond hub. Let’s see….I think we grew up at the same time(Moore era)…my dad loved Connery as Bond, but he thought Moore was acceptable as Bond…so he used to take me to Moore Bond movies at the theater. As for Pierce Brosnan….they made a ton of money….and Brosnan wanted to make some more Bond movies….I still think he has a hard time believing that the Bond producers went on without him. As for Daniel Craig…I highly recommend Casino Royale one of the Best Bond movies….but stay away from Quantum of Solace. I was doing the Black Friday midnight shopping….I thought I had picked up a BluRay Casino Royale….instead a got a BluRay Quantum of Solace….now I trying to figure out how to get rid of it…lol. Thanks for stopping by.
cogerson
Sean Connery seems to top all the lists. Your research and subsequent numbers are stunning and make a very interesting read. I think there is a bond-fan among all of us and your line “..no doubt when my 5 year old is older, she will have her very own Bond” says volumes about how epic James Bond movies have been in shaping movies and culture the way they are today. This has been the great read, the statistics were awesome and the hub definitely deserves to be tagged as a ‘must-read for every bond fan on the planet’
Princesswithapen
Hey Princesswithapen….thanks so much for that great compliment…it is greatly appreciated. Sean Connery pretty much owns all three Top 10 lists…and poor Roger Moore does not get much respect on my tables…and I like the Moore Bond. I think the future of Bond is at stake with the next one, Skyline, if it struggles at the box office, it might be a decade before we see Bond24. Thanks for reading my update.
Hi Cogerson, I have to chime in here, especially since I’m watching the SciFi network’s James Bond marathon today. By far, my first choice of James Bond is Sean Connery. He seemed to have just the right amount of humor, was also lethal when he needed to be and, unfortunately for most of the ladies in the films, he was an absolute lady killer. Pierce was my second choice. In fact the first time I saw him, I thought he would make a natural choice. Thanks so much for your movie page. I love James Bond movies
Hey Cyndi10…hard to argue that Connery is not the best Bond ever…I like Moore better but I acknowledge that Connery is Bond….while Moore was playing Bond. I think it all depends on your age as well. My 17 year old daughter loves Daniel Craig and probably never watch some of the classic Connery Bond movies. I think Brosnan was closer to Moore than Connery…and Craig is closer to Connery….I image that the next James Bond is in junior high right now…thanks for the visit.
