  • Sort James Woods movies by adjusted domestic box office grosses using current movie ticket cost (in millions)
  • Sort James Woods movies by yearly domestic box office rank

  1. HI BRUCE

Good to see prestige movies like the McMartin Trial getting credit on your site even if you can’t get box office figures for them. That’s one of the advantages of having a chronological table that doesn’t depend on box office.

Wikipedia often gives TV audience VIEWING figures for SERIES and special shows but I can’t remember Wiki doing it for TV movies. Indeed if a thespian doesn’t have a prolific TV output that justifies Wiki including a special table for the performer’s televison career Wiki will as often as not decline to mention the TV movie in the filmography. The most consistent source for TV movies is IMDB but they don’t include the appropriate stats in their lists – at least not in the lists that I’ve seen.

Final word on The McMartin Trial from Wiki

“The film is cited as a watershed in the shift of ideas about satanic ritual abuse, recasting Ray Buckey as a victim of a hysterical conspiracy rather than a child abuser.”

  2. I saw Riding in Cars with Boys starring James in Santa Fe on my honeymoon.

James Woods is # 158 on the Oracle of Bacon Top 1000 Center of the Hollywood Universe list; these are the other actors on the list he appeared with.

    1. Hey Dan. First of all the normal shout out to you. Your efforts are always appreciated.James Woods has been very busy throughout his career, though lately his political views have pretty much gotten him blackballed from Hollywood. Imagine that he’s going to hurt his Oracle rankings as time goes on. Thanks for sharing your honeymoon movie viewing history. We have three of those ourselves. With the wedding crashers being the most known of those three. Looking at the first list, massive, with Danny Devito as his most frequent Oracle costar. I’d say his Oscar winning costars would fall in the average category. Wow, so Scooby’s going straight to video on demand. The worlds a changing. Good stuff as always. And always remember you are the man!

      1. Actually Dan….now that I am back from a walk outside…it looks like Burt Young is the most frequent Oracle co-star and not Danny DeVito. Sit down Louie D. and make room for Paulie. It is a little to read my phone when I walking, reading and trying to comment. I guess I have time to figure how to do that…lol.

  3. Thanks for opening a James Woods page & the video share Bruce, and thanks to Bob for moving our chats to this page, it is appreciated.

I’ve seen 27 of the 70 films on the chart, which is more than I managed on my video chart. Favorites include – Salvador, Best Seller, The Hard Way, Videodrome, Vampires, Casino, Hercules, Contact, Cat’s Eye, White House Down, The Specialist, Final Fantasy and Once Upon a Time in America.

There are 32 films here I decided not to include on my video, he arrogantly boasted.

I think we have the same no.1 on our critics charts, Casino no.2 on my video chart and no.3 on your chart. Woods voicing Hades tops the UMR chart, looking at the trivia box I don’t think Woods would complain about a cartoon at no.1.

Top rated I haven’t seen include HBO movie Indictment, True Believer and Night Moves.

    Good work Bruce. Vote Up!

    1. HI STEVE:

Thanks ever so much for the expression of appreciation but save your ‘clapping’ for the nurses because not engaging in any false modesty I will concede that you and The Big Boy do all the hard constructive work in compiling your videos/new pages and my shuffling posts across is merely a copying exercise.

Indeed I am reminded of one of Peter Cushing’s outings as Victor Frankenstein when he’s looking for a talented assistant to help him build a new monster. He feels that he has identified a suitable candidate and he asks the chap about the latter’s previous experience in the field of science; and the fellow replies something like “I have been fortunate enough to work with some of the Great Masters and have assisted them in applying their discoveries and often copied the same for the benefit of others.” Victor is disappointed and says “Oh so you are merely interpretative and not creative.”

I hope things are going well for you today on your break. It’s a lovely sunny day here and I have been a long walk. Many others are doing the same and when the lockdown ends we could well be a fitter people! Anyway take care.

      1. Hey Bob. Thanks for moving these comments to this page. You are the man. I always greatly appreciate when you do this. Granted I always try to beat Steve to the punch, but in this case Steve got to James Woods before I did. Thanks again.

    2. Hey Steve. Glad you were able to check out a real James Woods page. Some of the other Woods career breakdowns only look at a small amount of his movies …. like only 38 of them…..lol. Actually you know, your video of him got me motivated to put this page together. So you have seen 27 hours movies, I have seen 41 of the 70 listed here. I have seen all of you favorites.Liked most of them, not a huge fan of White House down. Glad our rankings are pretty similar. As always your feedback is greatly appreciated. Good stuff.

  4. The 1995 TV movie Indictment: The McMartin Trial is one of my very fave James Woods movies and possibly my out-and-out favorite. In it one of James’ co-stars is Shirley Knight who sadly died just a few days ago – see Bruce’s In Memoriam page.

In The McMartin Trial Woods gave the tour de force kind of performance that attracted me to him in the early 1990s and the film was lavished with praise for its strong performances. In my opinion Shirley deserved her supporting actress Golden Globe as one of the persecuted heads of a family that Woods’ lawyer defends against hysteria and injustice. [Based on a real-life court case, the film finds members of the McMartin family on trial for alleged sexual molestation and abuse of children at their well-regarded preschool. – IMDB]

Shirley also won a Primetime Emmy; James Woods got Golden Globe and Primetime Emmy best actor nominations for his riveting portrayal of lawyer Danny Davis; and Mercedes Ruehl [supporting actress Oscar winner for 1991’s The Fisher King opposite Robin Williams and Jeff Bridges] got a Cable ACE best leading actress nomination for her portrayal of the prosecutor of the McMartins Lael Rubin.

I am pleased to see a Cogerson page complementing Steve’s fine video about Wood so “Voted Up!”.

    1. Hey Bob….our recent addition of adding in streaming, paid service movies got The McMartin Trial in this page….and ranked pretty high even without any box office. There is no way to figure out box office for these types of movies….but we are working on a win to include some extra points when one of these movies gets some major Emmy or Golden Globe love. We will keep tweaking that…and hopefully come up with a good balance. With Knight’s passing and this Woods page…you have had lots of opportunity to praise The McMartin Trial. I will have to check that one out. Good stuff as always.

Hi Bruce, I was a bit surprised you didn’t have a page on Woods at the UMR, you should have the box office info on most of these films.

Your tally an impressive 31 out of 38, mine 22 and Flora 3. Best Seller is very good and deserved the high rating. Salvador probably contains the quintessential Woods performance, worthy of Oscar.

Thanks again for the comment, vote and share, always appreciated.
