  1. Hi

Wow, you’re on a roll with Lean, Wilder, Moore and now the incredible Fonda. One of my favourite movies is Barefoot in the Park, was so funny, especially the woman who played the mother. I think They Shoot Horses Don’t They really changed her career, a very dark but compelling film.
I wasn’t so keen on Klute. She then had a real fantastic run of movies from 77 to 81, Julia, Coming Home, The China Syndrome, 9 to 5 and of course On Golden Pond.
Her movie career then seemed to take a back seat after that for some reason. I recently watched a T.V. movie she made called The Doll Maker. It was excellent.
I’m glad to see she’s came back in supporting roles, she looks incredible. Actually older now than Katharine Hepburn was in On Golden Pond. I read her biography and it was fascinating reading, the relationship with her father and her political activities. Even her religious experience, so interesting. She learnt about the suicide of her mum in a magazine, that must have been so traumatic for her. She’s had a wonderful roller-coaster of both life and career and definitely one of my favourites. Thanks for the page.

    1. Hey Chris.
      1. Glad you liked your requested Fonda page.
      2. She and Redford made a great screen couple in all three of their movies….I just re-watched The Electric Horseman last night
      3. Fonda has said that They Shoot Horses Don’t They was the movie that turned things around for her. I assume she is meaning that she went from her Sex Kitten days to her Serious Actress days.
      4. Her run from 1977 to 1981 was incredible. Box office glory, great reviews and Oscar love…it does not get better than that.
      5. I will have to check out The Doll Maker…thanks for the suggestion.
      6. I am also glad she has come back to movies…even in supporting roles….I actually enjoyed last years This Is Where I Leave You….granted I am in a small minority when it comes to that thinking.
      7. That is strange that she is older than the Great Kate….when Hepburn made On Golden Pond.
      8. I would say her personal life has been the roller coaster…while her movie career has maintained mostly highs….granted she has some clunkers in her resume too…..but who does not?
      9. As always….thanks for stopping by….and thanks for your thoughts on Jane Fonda

  2. Nice work Bruce. Fonda was so cute in her Barbarella days. It doesn’t look like I’m much of a fan though, I’ve only seen 6 of the films you’ve listed! Just 6! There are 36 Jane Fonda films I missed or never bothered with.

I did buy Barbarella on DVD and Blu-ray and when I mentioned it on my movie forum one guy replied that he would never buy a movie starring ‘Hanoi Jane’, I was surprised that people still hated her for her anti-American stance during the Vietnam war. She recently said she regretted what happened “It was a huge, huge mistake”.

I haven’t seen On Golden Pond, which tops your moviescore, the subject matter didn’t interest me when I was young. And I’ve only seen bits of Coming Home. I didn’t see 9 to 5 either, sorry Jane. 🙂

I did enjoy Cat Ballou and The China Syndrome. The Chase was interesting, Marlon Brando and Robert Redford! Voted Up.

    1. Hey Steve. I figured Barbarella was going to be the Fonda movie you mentioned…that is a silly fun movie….that has influenced lots and lots of people. Only 6 movies? That is surprising…my tally is at 21. Not sure if Fonda is classic enough for Flora to comment on…but I imagine she has seen most of the 1960s Fonda movies. She seems to have lots of people that strongly dislike her…her Hanoi Jane days are long ago….but seems many people have never forgiven her. On Golden Pond is worth checking out….it has some humor to go along with the slightly depressing storyline. Plus you get three Hollywood legends….2 Fondas and 1 Hepburn. 9 to 5 has some moments….I am shocked that has not been remade….as Hollywood loves to remake hits from other decades. As always thanks for stopping by and commenting.

  3. Hi Bruce,
Very good idea to make a table about Jane Fonda. But the title for the 42th movie isn’t “In the cool of the day” ?

    1. Thanks laurent for the comment and thanks for the heads up on In The Cool of The Day issue….I fixed it not once, not twice but three times….I guess I struck out…lol.
