January 6th – Not Good News

  1.  Google Ad Sense has suspended our account.  Seems we had too good of a December.  They said they will do some research and decide if we can remain in their program.  This was after being with them for 6 years and bringing millions of views to their advertisers.  Added bonus they told us there was no timetable for a decision.
  2. Our current contract with our website provider ends on February 1st 2021.
  3. For our next yearly contract they want a healthy increase to support the added increase in traffic.
  4. This is putting us in between and rock and a hard spot. As our traffic increases the more the website costs us to run.
  5. As I type this….I am leaning more towards pulling the plug than renewing for another year of increased website provider costs.  WoC is leaning towards moving forward for another year.
  6. Just figured I would let people know what was going on behind the scenes at UMR.

  1. This is horrible news. I am sorry to hear this. I hope that everything works out. As Taylor said, there are other ad programs and as In the Shadows said, you could hold a fundraising campaign. I have enjoyed talking about movies with you for ten years.

    1. Hey Flora…..thanks for the support. We are currently looking at some other programs to help out. Glad you mentioned the “ten years”….it is getting real close to our 10 year anniversary of writing about movies on the internet…..how did that happen? Thanks for sharing your concern.

  2. As I hear on the radio. I am a longtime reader first time commentor. I would be sadden to see this website go away. As In The Shadows mentioned, I would be very willing to contribute to a fundraising campaign to keep things moving. Just provide a link and I will send some funds.

    1. Hey Ethan Kinchen. First of all….and most importantly….thanks for being one of our readers. Your support is greatly appreciated. Thanks for the suggestions. It means a lot to us that people would be willing to help us keep this website going. Hope to hear from you again.

  3. Sorry to hear this. I have heard dealing with Google Ad Sense is at times difficult. There are other options out there. I hope you consider those before “pulling the plug”.

    1. Hey Taylor…WoC of course kept a calm head about this….which means UMR will be around for another year……2021 has been secured. Thanks for the kind words and the support…you are the man.

  4. Sorry to hear that Bruce. Did they mention any other reasons for their decision apart from doing well in December? I mean there’s no bad language on the site, nothing disturbing or upsetting. I don’t get it.

I occasionally get problems with youtube and my channel gets demonetized, a few months later its monetized again. It’s all so random!

I hope it gets sorted. It’ll be sad to lose the UMR. If IMDB were interested in it… but than again we saw what happened to Box Office Mojo

    1. Hey Steve….will since my minor meltdown….calmness has returned…as has UMR for the next year. Interesting that you are having issues as well. My biggest complaint is that there “is no timetable” for a resolution to this suspension. That seems so wishy washy. On a more positive note….we are coming up on 10 years of talking about movies….I joined HubPages in February of 2011…..I think we started chatting around March of 2011. One decade of Charlton Heston talk……it has been fun my friend. Thanks for the support.

  5. Well that is disturbing news. Maybe you should consider doing a wiki fundraising campaign. I would help out the cause.

    1. Hey In The Shadows…..thanks for coming into the sunshine and showing your support. I appreciate that support and your suggestions. It is greatly appreciated.
