Has any actress had a better start to their movie career than Jennifer Lawrence? I poised that question on Twitter and Audrey Hepburn and Debra Winger were two answers people suggested. I think the answer to that question…is no….nobody has had a better start to their movie career than Jennifer Lawrence.

She is starring in not one, but two blockbuster movie franchises (Hungry Games and X-Men), she has appeared in critical acclaimed and Oscar® nominated movies (Silver Linings Playbook, American Hustle, Joy and Winter’s Bone) and she has one Oscar® win, four Oscar® nominations and four Golden Globe® nominations.

Our Thoughts On Every Single Jennifer Lawrence Movie

American Hustle (2013) Our thoughts: I thought American Hustle was excellent. A good story but great performances by Christian Bale, Amy Adams, Bradley Cooper, Jeremy Renner and of course Jennifer Lawrence. She picked up a Golden Globe® for her performance…and her third Oscar® nomination of career.

A Beautiful Planet  (2016) Our thoughts:  This is a wonderful IMAX movie that shows the Earth in spectacular fashion.  Saw it on a huge IMAX theater and the experience was very memorable.

The Beaver (2011) Our thoughts: This is one strange movie that starts dark and ends up evener darker…not a movie that I will ever watch again. Lawrence plays the daughter of Mel Gibson and Jodie Foster.

The Burning Plain (2008) Our thoughts: Another small supporting role for her in this movie. Not only do you get Lawrence you get Charlize Theron, Kim Basinger and music by Hans Zimmer. Lots of talent in the cast and crew but I found this movie pretty easily forgotten.

The Causeway (2022) Our thoughts: Movie seems to be made for the end of the year awards shows.  Lawrence is fine as a soldier trying to recover from an injury.  Brian Tyree Henry received a Best Supporting Actor Oscar for his performance.  Decent movie with that I will never watch again.

Don’t Look Up (2021) Our thoughts:  Movie has an outstanding cast.  Movie picked up a bunch of Oscar nominations.  Too bad the movie seems more of a misfire.  With all the talent involved, this should have been a great movie.  This is a movie that already seems forgotten.

Garden Party (2008) Our thoughts: Not only have I not watched Garden Party, I have not even heard of it before doing this page. She was only 16 when she made the movie and has a very small part…but I am guessing one day you might find Garden Party at your local RedBox….with the cover of the movie making it look like a brand new Jennifer Lawrence movie.

House At The End Of The Street (2012) Our thoughts: Call it the Jamie Lee Curtis rule of filmmaking….but it seems that every young actress is required to appear in a horror movie. Well after making this pretty bad movie….Lawrence has finished that requirement and can now concentrate on other aspects of her career.

The Hunger Games (2011) Our thoughts: I thought the movie was pretty good…but I have to admit I was expecting much better. It does not compare very well to the Japanese film, Battle Royal. It also does not compare well to the Stephen King/Richard Bachman short story, The Long Walk.

The Hunger Games: Catching Fire (2013)  Our thoughts: To me this is the best of the Hunger Games movies.  Lawrence is the best part of the movie.

The Hunger Games: The Mockingjay Part 1 (2014) Our thoughts: After a sluggish first half….this one rebounds nicely in the second half of the movie.

The Hunger Games: The Mockingjay Part 2 (2015) Our thoughts: I liked the movie but I think it is safe to say the movie franchise went out with a whimper versus going out with a bang.

Joy (2015) Our thoughts: Second half of movie is better than the first half….we were happy when she won the Golden Globe and picked up her 4th Oscar nomination for this movie.

Like Crazy (2011) Our thoughts: I enjoyed this movie. I did not even realize she was in the movie until she appeared in the second half of the movie. I think if they remade this movie she would have the lead role while Felecity Jones would have the supporting role.

Mother (2017) Our thoughts:   This one needs an instruction manual to understand all the multi-layered meanings.  Maybe those are worth taking a deep dive into…but not in my book.  So this was just a confusing mess of a movie.  Maybe one day I will take another look….but that is way down the road.

No Hard Feelings (2023) Our thoughtsHave not seen this one yet.  Trailers look pretty bad….will not be seeing this one in theaters….but I will be checking it out as soon as it reaches home entertainment.

Passengers (2016) Our thoughts:  This was a pleasant surprise.  Actually really enjoyed this movie…and the DVD is now part of our personal movie collection.

Red Sparrow (2018) Our thoughts:  Liked the story, like Lawrence in the lead role.  The ending was probably the weakest element of the movie.

Serena (2015) Our thoughts: The 3rd teaming of Lawrence and Bradley Cooper is easily the worst one.  Their performances are fine but the story line is so depressing it makes watching the movie hard to do.

Silver Linings Playbook (2011) Our thoughts: Lawrence received her first Oscar® for Best Actress for this movie. The movie is outstanding and one of my favorite movies over the last ten years. It is a great story with some excellent performances from Lawrence, Robert DeNiro, Chris Tucker and Bradley Cooper. Silver Linings Playbook was nominated for 8 Oscars® including one for Best Picture Oscar®.

Winter’s Bone (2010) Our thoughts: The movie that got Lawrence really noticed for the first time….her performance earned her a much deserved Oscar® nomination for Best Actress. Winter’s Bone even managed to pick up a Best Picture Oscar® nomination as well. Not a very happy movie at all….but the characters and performances in the movie will stay with you for a very long time.

X-Men: Apocalypse (2016) Our thoughts: Did not turn out to be the epic event movie that many forecast.  Superhero fatigue?  The weakest of her three X-Men movies.

X-Men:  Dark Phoenix (2019) Our thoughts:  Have not seen this one yet..hopefully it will be better than the bad press that surrounds it.

X-Men: First Class (2011) Our thoughts: Before the success of the Hungerr Games movies this was easily her biggest box office hit. I am not much of a X-Men fan…but I liked this movie and I especially liked her as Mystique. Glad to see that she will be playing the role again in next year’s X-Men: Days Of Future Past.

X-Men: Days of Future Past (2014) Our thoughts: Another monster hit for her….the best X-Men movie in over 10 years.

  1. So at work today….a friend of mine was showing off this website. Well the newbie to UMR.com tried to click the movie title…which of course did not work. After my friend said….”I did the same thing when I first started coming to this website”….I started thinking maybe we need to have a link in the movie title column. So tonight I was talking to WoC about this and turns out she was already working towards that anyway. So some quick magic from WoC….and we now have a new looking webpage. The big difference is….every Jennifer Lawrence movie….now has the movie’s trailer attached to the one line of movie information. This is opening up some pretty awesome possibilities. Imagine a UMR page with not only Gregory Peck movie stats but many of his movie trailers? Sound like a good idea?

    1. Hey E.G…..page has been updated….and we will be sure to include the stats for Mother when it opens up. Thanks for the heads up.

    1. Hey BryRog57…you are 100% correct. I will get done soon…..it will be a major facelift too….as I want to get it to look like all the other pages.

  2. Hi

I haven’t seen any of the Hunger Game or X Men movies, but I absolutely love Silver Linings Playbook. I’ve seen it several times and I thought Jennifer was superb in it and deserved the Oscar. She had great chemistry with Bradley Cooper. I must look out for American Hustle and I’m looking forward to seeing Joy.

    1. Hey Chris….the Hunger Games and X-Men movies pretty much make up half of her movie career. Granted The Hunger Games are done and she has said she is done with X-Men movies after she finishing the next one. As for Silver Linings Playbook…I agree 100% with you…that was an outstanding performance. As for American Hustle… I enjoyed it….but it is more of a Amy Adams movie than it is a Jennifer Lawrence movie. Hope Joy is a good movie too….thanks for stopping by.
