Want to know the best Jennifer Lawrence movie? How about the worst Jennifer Lawrence movie? Curious about Jennifer Lawrence’s box office grosses or which Jennifer Lawrence movie picked up the most Oscar® nominations? Need to know which Jennifer Lawrence movie got the best reviews from critics and audiences? Well you have come to the right place.
Has any actress had a better start to their movie career than Jennifer Lawrence? I poised that question on Twitter and Audrey Hepburn and Debra Winger were two answers people suggested. I think the answer to that question…is no….nobody has had a better start to their movie career than Jennifer Lawrence.
She is starring in not one, but two blockbuster movie franchises (Hungry Games and X-Men), she has appeared in critical acclaimed and Oscar® nominated movies (Silver Linings Playbook, American Hustle, Joy and Winter’s Bone) and she has one Oscar® win, four Oscar® nominations and four Golden Globe® nominations.

Our Thoughts On Every Single Jennifer Lawrence Movie
American Hustle (2013) Our thoughts: I thought American Hustle was excellent. A good story but great performances by Christian Bale, Amy Adams, Bradley Cooper, Jeremy Renner and of course Jennifer Lawrence. She picked up a Golden Globe® for her performance…and her third Oscar® nomination of career.
A Beautiful Planet (2016) Our thoughts: This is a wonderful IMAX movie that shows the Earth in spectacular fashion. Saw it on a huge IMAX theater and the experience was very memorable.
The Beaver (2011) Our thoughts: This is one strange movie that starts dark and ends up evener darker…not a movie that I will ever watch again. Lawrence plays the daughter of Mel Gibson and Jodie Foster.
The Burning Plain (2008) Our thoughts: Another small supporting role for her in this movie. Not only do you get Lawrence you get Charlize Theron, Kim Basinger and music by Hans Zimmer. Lots of talent in the cast and crew but I found this movie pretty easily forgotten.
The Causeway (2022) Our thoughts: Movie seems to be made for the end of the year awards shows. Lawrence is fine as a soldier trying to recover from an injury. Brian Tyree Henry received a Best Supporting Actor Oscar for his performance. Decent movie with that I will never watch again.
Don’t Look Up (2021) Our thoughts: Movie has an outstanding cast. Movie picked up a bunch of Oscar nominations. Too bad the movie seems more of a misfire. With all the talent involved, this should have been a great movie. This is a movie that already seems forgotten.
Garden Party (2008) Our thoughts: Not only have I not watched Garden Party, I have not even heard of it before doing this page. She was only 16 when she made the movie and has a very small part…but I am guessing one day you might find Garden Party at your local RedBox….with the cover of the movie making it look like a brand new Jennifer Lawrence movie.
House At The End Of The Street (2012) Our thoughts: Call it the Jamie Lee Curtis rule of filmmaking….but it seems that every young actress is required to appear in a horror movie. Well after making this pretty bad movie….Lawrence has finished that requirement and can now concentrate on other aspects of her career.
The Hunger Games (2011) Our thoughts: I thought the movie was pretty good…but I have to admit I was expecting much better. It does not compare very well to the Japanese film, Battle Royal. It also does not compare well to the Stephen King/Richard Bachman short story, The Long Walk.
The Hunger Games: Catching Fire (2013) Our thoughts: To me this is the best of the Hunger Games movies. Lawrence is the best part of the movie.
The Hunger Games: The Mockingjay Part 1 (2014) Our thoughts: After a sluggish first half….this one rebounds nicely in the second half of the movie.
The Hunger Games: The Mockingjay Part 2 (2015) Our thoughts: I liked the movie but I think it is safe to say the movie franchise went out with a whimper versus going out with a bang.
Joy (2015) Our thoughts: Second half of movie is better than the first half….we were happy when she won the Golden Globe and picked up her 4th Oscar nomination for this movie.
Like Crazy (2011) Our thoughts: I enjoyed this movie. I did not even realize she was in the movie until she appeared in the second half of the movie. I think if they remade this movie she would have the lead role while Felecity Jones would have the supporting role.
Mother (2017) Our thoughts: This one needs an instruction manual to understand all the multi-layered meanings. Maybe those are worth taking a deep dive into…but not in my book. So this was just a confusing mess of a movie. Maybe one day I will take another look….but that is way down the road.
No Hard Feelings (2023) Our thoughts: Have not seen this one yet. Trailers look pretty bad….will not be seeing this one in theaters….but I will be checking it out as soon as it reaches home entertainment.
Passengers (2016) Our thoughts: This was a pleasant surprise. Actually really enjoyed this movie…and the DVD is now part of our personal movie collection.
Red Sparrow (2018) Our thoughts: Liked the story, like Lawrence in the lead role. The ending was probably the weakest element of the movie.
Serena (2015) Our thoughts: The 3rd teaming of Lawrence and Bradley Cooper is easily the worst one. Their performances are fine but the story line is so depressing it makes watching the movie hard to do.
Silver Linings Playbook (2011) Our thoughts: Lawrence received her first Oscar® for Best Actress for this movie. The movie is outstanding and one of my favorite movies over the last ten years. It is a great story with some excellent performances from Lawrence, Robert DeNiro, Chris Tucker and Bradley Cooper. Silver Linings Playbook was nominated for 8 Oscars® including one for Best Picture Oscar®.
Winter’s Bone (2010) Our thoughts: The movie that got Lawrence really noticed for the first time….her performance earned her a much deserved Oscar® nomination for Best Actress. Winter’s Bone even managed to pick up a Best Picture Oscar® nomination as well. Not a very happy movie at all….but the characters and performances in the movie will stay with you for a very long time.
X-Men: Apocalypse (2016) Our thoughts: Did not turn out to be the epic event movie that many forecast. Superhero fatigue? The weakest of her three X-Men movies.
X-Men: Dark Phoenix (2019) Our thoughts: Have not seen this one yet..hopefully it will be better than the bad press that surrounds it.
X-Men: First Class (2011) Our thoughts: Before the success of the Hungerr Games movies this was easily her biggest box office hit. I am not much of a X-Men fan…but I liked this movie and I especially liked her as Mystique. Glad to see that she will be playing the role again in next year’s X-Men: Days Of Future Past.
X-Men: Days of Future Past (2014) Our thoughts: Another monster hit for her….the best X-Men movie in over 10 years.

HI O ARTISTIC ONE Sorry I can’t share your love of these franchises; but we certainly won’t quarrel over my opinion of your video about Jen 3. [There is an Andy Garcia movie called Jennifer 8 – is that what you’re working towards?]
Despite its relative brevity Jen 3 is a stunning display of posters and stills and well worth a 98% rating to me. It is greatly helped by the magnificence of the X Men/Hunger Games franchises pictorials most of which are among my pick of the video’s contents; Jennifer herself is one sexy lady who is highly photogenic and iconic. The rest of the best POSTERS for me are-
1/House at End of Street
2/The Joel You Know
3/Burning Plain
4/Poker House
5/first one for Red Sparrow – simply mesmerizing
6/two for Passengers – ideally describes Hirsch’s status in the entertainment industry!!
7/2nd one for Mother
8/two for US Hustle
9/two for Winter’s Bone – 1st one especially picturesque to me.
10/two for Silver Linings Playbook
11/The Beaver – a heavy marker of Mel Gibson’s almost overnight decline as a star. According to WH’s stats it took just an approx $8 million adjusted worldwide gross and barely over $1 million adjusted domestically.
1/On top of her movie career Jennifer has been credited with 6 television productions from 2006-2017; and she made a music video in 2010.
2/She has a movie at post production stage; two at pre-production stage; and a 4th one has been provisionally announced for her.
3/IMDB credits her with 119 acting awards and 183 nominations –combined total 303- suggesting again that modern thespians are permitted to grow awards in their back gardens. That’s 6 times the total awards IMDB credits for example the legendary Bette Davis with after years of completing a long string of diverse and demanding dramatic roles. No quick fixes like the X Men and Hunger Games franchises around in those days. Take those two franchises out of the tables above and Lawrence would have no career.
4/Jennifer has a reported current net worth of $130 million. That’s exactly the same amount as Al Leach left behind on his death when his actual $60 million at that time is adjusted for inflation; yet Archie who was very careful with money spent an entire career churning out hit after hit and was one of the greatest Hollywood megastars ever to have lived. It has to be said though that the Hollywood of his days didn’t give Archibald a Money Tree in his back garden any more than they let him grow awards.
5/Unfortunately I have no interest in any of the movies in the above tables and indeed have seen none of them. I started to watch Silver Linings Playbook but it didn’t appeal to [looking like another De Niro F-word fest- me so I switched off the television.
6/Lawrence is not among the 10 actresses who make the Top 50 Stars of all-time list in Bruce’s book; nor does her name appear on page 16 of that book among the 25 actresses who get “honourable mentions”. In my own Miovie Buffs group The Work Horse’s comprehensive book has become somewhat of a Bible and has been nicknamed “The sane moviegoer’s choice.”
Hi Bob, thanks for reviewing my Jennifer Lawrence video, the generous rating, info and trivia are much appreciated. Happy you liked the poster gallery.
I think that’s enough Jennifer’s for one week. I’ve already done videos for Jennifer Jones and Jennifer Connelly.
I’m glad you’re enjoying the various posters and stills for comic book movies I’ve included in some of these videos, considering they’re not your cup of tea.
Jennifer has one film scoring 10 out of 10 from one of my sources – Catching Fire, which was the second Hunger Games movie. Three films scored 9 out of 10 – The Hunger Games, American Hustle and Silver Linings Playbook.
X-Men Days of Future Past is no.1 at IMDB, tops at RottenTomatoes is Silver Linings Playbook closely followed by American Hustle.
“I am just a normal girl and a human being, and I haven’t been in this long enough to feel like this is my new normal.”
“My parents saw me so truly happy that they sacrificed everything for my happiness. Without my family, I would be nothing.”
“In Hollywood, I’m obese. I’m considered a fat actress. I eat like a caveman. I’ll be the only actress that doesn’t have anorexia rumors! I’m never going to starve myself for a part. I’m invincible. I don’t want little girls to be like “Oh, I want to look like Katniss, so I’m going to skip dinner!”.
Obese? Bob, here’s a link to a photo of naughty Jennifer I couldn’t use in my video, enjoy!

HI STEVE:
Thanks for the link which as you guessed impressed me.
It seems to be that a lot of successful mainstream actresses live/or have lived in the past both an overtly ‘respectable’ career and a covertly undercover one – though maybe in the matter concerned the latter is a contradiction in terms!
In the early 1990s there was a video library near me [now closed] owned and very well run by a local solictor [now deceased] and all its outer-shop shelves were stacked with mainstream videos of the kind the WH would gobble up such as Arnie’s True Lies and Brian Dennehy’s Jack Reed movies.
However in the back was a strongroom and in it were a different kind of videos under lock and key. The library counter staff were given the names of the members of the ‘club’ that had access to the strong room and those staff would dish out the videos to thoe mebbers when the latter had ordered and paid. Some of the counter staff were teenage school girls; so as the old saying goes there is nothing new under the sun. I will hasten to add I was never a member!
Please continue to keep safe.
Added Steve’s latest video to this page. Our thoughts on his video and Jennifer Lawrence’s career…found below.
Seems like her career has already slowed down….not a good sign for an actress that is not even 30 yet (next month she turns 30). But the last 5 years have seen movies (starting with the final Hunger Games movie) not perform as well as you would expect. The X-Men franchise was destroyed with the last two movies. The Hunger Games stumbled to the finish line. Mother is liked but ignored by the general movie public. Joy and Red Sparrow were underachievers. Her biggest success since 2014 is probably Passengers…and it apparently lost a ton of money. Still…I think she will be back. I have seen 20 of these 22 movies. Favorites would include #1 Silver Linings Playbook, #6 American Hustle, #7 The Hunger Games and #12 Passengers. Passengers is a movie that WoC loves….and is in our DVD collection. Voted up and shared at https://www.ultimatemovierankings.com/jennifer-lawrence-movies/
FYI – My daughter-in-law gets confused with her. My oldest son always said he was going to marry Angelina Jolie…but said he had to settle for Jennifer Lawrence…lol.
Great post Bruce, cheers, that last bit made me smile. I liked Jennifer in the X-Men and Hunger Games series. Would you believe she’s still in her 20’s. I thought Passengers was underrated, really enjoyed it and the visual aspects of that spaceship. I didn’t like Mother! but I can see how it might become a cult film.
Your tally 20 out of 22 is impressive. I’ve seen 14, which is not too bad.
Thanks again for the vote, share and comment, always appreciated.
Found my other Jennifer comment on this page. From 2015 –
“Born 1990… whoa she must be your youngest subject so far Bruce.
I’ve seen just 4 of her films, Hunger Games 1 & 2, X-Men First Class and Silver Linings Playbook. The top 4 of your moviescore chart.
Looking forward to American Hustle.
Top work as usual, keep em coming.”
Moviescore? aaah memories….
🙂
p.s the comment must be older, taken from hubpages? Because I must have watched X-Men Days of Future Past by 2015.
It’s almost as if I’m reading my own writing
– I’m not an x men fan yet days of future past is best x men
– catching fire is best hunger games
– silver linings playbook is outstanding
– american hustle is excellent
So you understand how much I love reading this page
Hey jordie….glad you enjoyed reading this page…glad we are seeing things the same way. Great minds thinking alike. Good comment.
29? Seems like she should only be mid 20s versus staring down 30. Seems her career is already on the downside.
Hey SteinHoF16….wow this comment is almost a year old…She will be 30 next month. I agree…her career has slowed…but I suspect a rebound soon. Good stuff.
