  1. I saw 6 including 6 of top 8. umr has 2 number 6s.

10: dirty dozen, 9 : any given sunday (pacino rules, entire cast was delightful, I am a football fan).

    1. Hey bob cox….thanks for all the recent comments…I will have to respond to them later today, as I am walking out the door to go to work. Thanks for the ratings on the 6 Jim Brown movies you have seen. Not surprised that The Dirty Dozen has the highest ratings in you book. Any Given Sunday is a good football movie…even with some of the cast over acting. Good feedback.

        1. Hey bob cox….I agree…Jim Brown’s movie career is pretty impressive…especially when you realize he got such a late start. Good feedback.

  2. I have seen just 6 Jim Brown films but fortunately 5 of them are his top five Cogerson US grossers: Dirty Dozen, Any Given Sunday, Ladd Soldiers, Ice Station Zebra and Running Man. The 6th one is Rio Conchos which had a so-so box office return but a good 68% Cogerson rating.

Like The Duke’s The Conqueror, Ice Station Zebra is another film that Howard Hughes watched endlessly after its release though whilst I can see how Genghis Khan would appeal to Howard, I can’t work out the fascination of the Hudson flick for Hughes. Strange fellow Hughes but there have been others about: take Hirschhorn for instance.

Jim Brown is said to have $50 million in the bank at the moment largely derived from 3 sources: acting, professional football and involvement with real estate investments. He met Donald Trump in the White last year to discuss “the state of America.” The discussion doesn’t seem to have changed anything!

    1. Hey Bob….Thanks for the tally count….it looks like you saw his most popular movies….since you saw his 5 top grossers. “Ladd Soldiers”…a pun that sounds Lenmanish….good job. I think if you could figure out Howard Hughes…you would be one of the few….especially during his Vegas hotel hermit days. Brown has been successful in almost everything he has done….so his $50 million net worth is not too surprising. Good stuff as always.

      1. HI BRUCE

        Thanks for the feedback.

Incisive comments on Hughes. I remember a TV documentary on him which revealed that he holidayed for part of the year in a foreign luxury hotel where he booked up in advance for himself every room in the hotel so that nobody would know what room he was ‘reclusing’ in!

His Obsessive Compulsive Disorders were numerous and in some ways must have been quite boring even for himself. I mean to say he repeat-watched The Duke’s Conqueror and Hudson’s Ice Station Zebra year in year out.

Too much! I make it a rule to stop watching a Bond film after I have seen it 100 times; and every year during the Christmas season I take a break from my year round nightly re-watching of Die Hard. I’m sure that even Joel stopped watching Brando’s Napoleon after the 200th. viewing.

Elvis apparently had a fixation with The Wild One and watched it over the years every time he became depressed or bored; he would insist upon watching in total solitude

  3. Jim Brown eh… a good subject. Might be worthy of a Top 20 video some day, if I can find the posters. 😉

I’ve seen 9 of the 30 films on the chart, less than I thought. I only saw a few blaxploitation films in my movie-going days, and they had to include martial arts. Black Belt Jones comes to mind.

Favorites are – The Dirty Dozen, Ice Station Zebra, Mars Attacks (ack ack ack!), 100 Rifles, Dark of the Sun, Rio Conchos, The Running Man and I’m Gonna Git You Sucka! (which was hilarious but it’s been years since I last saw it). I also saw Any Given Sunday (with Pacino in full shout mode), it’s not my favorite Oliver Stone movie.

The Dirty Dozen was a massive hit and hugely influential. It was all filmed in England, there’s an amusing featurette on the DVD showing Lee Marvin, Charles Bronson and some of the other Dozen walking around ‘Swinging London’ trying to look cool. 🙂

    Good stuff Bruce. Vote Up!

    1. Hey Steve. Thanks for the visit, comment and tally count. I just realized when commenting to Dan, that I forgot to include Small Soldiers. I would be shocked if you had not seen that movie..so I am sure your tally count is 10. Our tally counts are close. Steve 10, Cogerson 9 and Flora 7. I agree…he might make for a good poster page….and those posters might be pretty interesting. I have seen 6 of your favorites. The Dirty Dozen and The Running Man are my favorite Jim Brown movies. I suspect The Running Man will be getting remade any day now. I saw and remember the buzz I’m Gonna Git You Sucka! created back in the day….but I barely remember that one. Interesting imagery of the Dirty Dozen walking around London. Good stuff as always.

    1. Hey Dan…..thanks for the sharing this information. So you saw Black Gunn? UMR Hall of Famer from work, George, does not even remember that movie….and he saw lots of Jim Brown movies when Jim was a busy leading man. Can’t imagine that Black Gunn will be making your Best of 2019 movie list. Shocked Brown is in the Top 400 on the Oracle list. You have to give Brown lots of credit….whatever he decided to do….acting, playing football, playing lacrosse or his activism…him did it all well.

First list…..good ole Ernest Borgnine is his most frequent Oracle co-star…..with a few just one movie behind the 4 Ernie/Jimmy movies. 16 Oscar winners…is low….but a decent total if you look at the genre Brown specialized in. Seeing Small Soldiers pop up a few times…triggered the fact that I forgot to include that movie on the table….it will be here on the next website update. Thanks again for sharing this information.

  5. I have seen 6 Jim Brown movies. Five of those films are in the top 10.

The HIGHEST rated movie I have seen is The Dirty Dozen.

The highest rated movie I have NOT seen is Any Given Sunday.

The LOWEST rated movie I have seen is 100 Rifles.

    Favourite Jim Brown Movies:

    The Dirty Dozen
    Ice Station Zebra

Other Jim Brown Movies I Have Seen:

    Mars Attacks!
    tick…tick…tick
    Dark of the Sun
    100 Rifles

    1. There is actually a 6th film I have seen of Jim Brown which is not on the table: The Split. Interesting heist film.

      1. Hey Flora…The Split is listed as his 12th best movie on the table…complete with a trailer. So your tally is 7.

    2. Hey Flora…thanks for checking out our Jim Brown page. Our tally counts are pretty close…8 for me and 7 for you. Most of mine are pretty recent (if you consider 30 years recent) and most of yours are older. Seen both of your favorites…really enjoy The Dirty Dozen….not so much Ice Station Zero. FYI. I add The Split to your tally count. Good stuff as always.
