    1. Hey Dan thanks for all of these Bacon Oracle connections. They are always fun to look at. Seeing the connections for Eric Roberts help me understand how he has the Top Spot. Never been able to crasp that since he has not been making so many low budget movies.

I especially liked the Caine connections…..since he is one of my all-time favorites. Thanks as always for posting this awesome information.

      1. Here are the people in the top 10 on the list, all who also connect to Myrna in 2 steps. Again I’ve also only listed the more known people. Some connect through smaller stars and extras (Arthur Tovey was on one). Connections don’t seem as glamorous as Joan’s.

Eric Roberts was in It’s My Party (1996) with Roddy McDowell who was in Midnight Lace (1960) with Myrna.
Eric was in Contamination (2008) with Karen Black who is in Airport 1975 (1974) with Myrna.
Eric was in The Shadow Men (1997) with Dean Stockwell who was in Song of the Thin Man (1947) with Myrna.
Eric was in This is Our Time (2013) with Erik Estrada who’s also in Airport 1975.
Michael Madsen was in Six Days in Paradise (2010) with George Kennedy who was in Airport 1975
Michael was in The Killing Time (1987) with Beau Bridges who was with Myrna in The Red Pony (1949).
Danny Trejo is in Anchorman: the Legend of Ron Burgundy (2004) with Jerry Stiller who is in Airport 1975 too.
Samuel L. Jackson was in Loaded Weapon 1 (1993) with Eric Estrada
Sammy was in Coming to America (1988) with Don Ameche who was in So Goes My Love (1948) with Myrna

Mike is in Sweet Liberty (1986) with Lillian Gish who is Ben-Hur (1925) with Myrna. Same move was used to connect Joan Crawford.

        1. Hey Dan….I agree this is not as impressive as the Joan list….though it is still interesting. Danny Trejo only one step away from Loy…did not see that coming. I did not even know Ben’s dad was in Airport 75.

I had a hard time finding Beau Bridges in The Red Pony….he was always in a group of kids …..not thinking he even has a single line in the movie. I think that Micheal Caine connection to Lillian Gish in Sweet Liberty brings Caine to 1000s of actors and actresses that have been gone for a very long time.

As always…thanks for sharing this information.

  2. I think Loy was great at sophisticated comedy and came across as a great leading lady. But I suppose Crawford is more interesting, her life, her movies, everything about her was over the top. And that’s what made her a fascinating star.

    1. Hey Chris….I think you are correct….even the biggest Joan fans would be hard pressed to give Crawford the edge over Loy when it came to comedy. I think it is safe to say one was a star and one was an actress. The fact that Crawford made the AFI Top 10 of Legend Actresses….and that Loy did not make the Top 25 tells you which was the star and which was the actress.

      1. Cogerson

“one was a star and one an actress”

I think there is a third description which is being missed. Crawford was also an actress. Loy was also a star (how else did she win a poll as the “Queen of Hollywood” and finish third behind only Davis and Rogers in a 1941 Gallup Poll of the public’s favorite actresses?)

The third description is being a celebrity. I have to use the word celebrity as I can’t think of any other or more exact term. What I mean by “celebrity” is a person whose personal life is known and fascinating to the public. Crawford was an actress, a star, and a celebrity. Loy was an actress and star, but not a celebrity. (I have heard almost nothing over the years about her personal life). I suppose another issue is the balance between these three descriptions. Jayne Mansfield was second-tier as an actress and movie star, but she was those. She was a first-tier celebrity though. Her personal life (and tragic death) are better remembered than her movies. The late Zsa Zsa Gabor was almost totally a celebrity.
Someone like Deborah Kerr was not a celebrity at all but was certainly an actress and star.

Curiously, who is better remembered by the general public–Jayne Mansfield or Deborah Kerr? Among movie buffs–Kerr. Among celebrity hounds–Mansfield.

And there probably are many more celebrity hounds than movie buffs. My take is that the “celebrities” are better remembered than the actors or the stars. Human nature, I guess.

        1. Hey John….great way to look at it….and I agree with your points. I think Jolie falls into that currently…..as she is an actress (Oscar winner), a star (her movies get lots of press) and a celebrity (just read the internet for 10 minutes and you will find a Jolie story)…Not sure how else would currently fall into all three groups…seems Streep falls short on the celebrity status (though her recent Trump situation gets her close)…..I think Sandra Bullock is close to Jolie…..but her personal life/celebrity side has really calmed these last 7 years.

Even better point about Kerr and Mansfield…I think Mansfield….as the poor man’s Monroe is remembered much more than the distinguished Kerr…..which is sad in many many ways. Human nature indeed. 🙂

  3. I am impressed that Loy’s numbers look so good. I have heard of her but not as much as I have heard of Crawford.

    1. Hey Lamia…..well Crawford was a star…while Loy was a popular actress…..seems time does not remember popular actresses as well as they do stars. I think it current times…Angelina Jolie falls into the star category….while Bullock is the popular actress….real curious who will be remembered more in the future…Bullock or Jolie. Thanks for the visit and the comment

  4. My favorite is Myrna Loy. She was a very pretty and very charming woman. I am a fan of the Thin man serie. But Joan Crawford was maybe a better actress.

    1. Hey Laurent…..good to know that Myrna Loy is one of your favorites. Good point about Loy and Crawford……no matter what the stats say…..Joan Crawford is the actress people remember….while Loy is remembered by film buffs….like us. Thanks for the visit.

  5. Has Bob seen this? His beloved Joan beaten by ‘box office queen’ Myrna Loy on every chart. Oh dear he won’t be pleased. 😉

Myrna only gets beaten at Oscar, Joan has won Best Actress and Myrna hasn’t, but wait… she did get an honorary Oscar “In recognition of her extraordinary qualities both on screen and off, with appreciation for a lifetime’s worth of indelible performances” and Joan didn’t.

Joan has the acting chops but I’d say Myrna was the prettiest. Yes I have a soft spot for Myrna, maybe because Bob has been a bit too hard on her these past few weeks.

    1. Hey Steve…..I would assume Bob has seen this page…..but it might take him a little while to figure out a way to spin these stats into a Crawford win…..which is probably why he has not commented on the page yet.

I agree besides in the Oscar category…..The Greatest Box Office Actress of All-Time has Joan beat in all the other categories. Plus Loy has managed to stay out of the bottom of the rankings. As I look at the critic/audience ratings…..that is a lot of really low rated movies for Joan…..granted many were silent movies….but they seem really really low….I might have to check that out….as it seems very strange.

I think Bob has been having fun at Loy’s expense…..but in the end….Crawford is a legend…while Loy was a good actress….but far from legend status.
