  1. I saw top 6. tens and favorites : animal house and blues brothers. hidden gems: continental divide and goin’ south. at one point in time john belushi had the number one rated late night television show, the number one box office movie and the number one musical album. john Belushi, chris Farley, and john Candy are all missed. rest in peace.

    1. Hey bob cox…..almost a Belushi completist like me. I am betting the missing one is Old Boyfriends. Yep Belushi, Farley and Candy are all missed. Good stuff.

  2. John Belushi is reputed to have had a net worth of $2 million at the time of his sad, premature death in 1982 at the age of 33. That’s worth $5.32 million in today’s money, which is very good for a short professional career which saw him make only the handful of films mentioned above over just 4 years inclusive. IMDB credits him with 2 acting awards and 5 nominations.

In view of the career brevity it is hardly surprising that I personally have never seen any of John’s films, even his 3 highest grossing movies Animal House, 1941 and Blues Brothers having no appeal for me.

However I have watched and liked his brother Jim Belushi in films like Trading Places, Only the Lonely and Traces of Red, a probably little known 1992 raunchy crime drama which especially appealed to me, though IMDB give it just a 52% rating.

John died before he could be considered for any Master Love and Jim who debuted in 1978 had just two or three films under his belt when The Great One wrote the 1983 Star Bible. It is therefore nice to see one of the brothers getting this Cogerson page and who knows? maybe Jim too will one day be admitted to the Cogerson Page Club.

In the meantime Jim will have to rest on his laurels of just 1 acting award and 1 nomination but a reported whopping net fortune of $50 million.

    1. Hey Bob. He was a huge star when he passed, but it seems he was pretty wild in many parts of his life….so his net worth seems about right. I can’t imagine that SNL paid him a lot of money…though it certainly made him famous. If you were to see a Belushi movie….I would recommend Continental Divide…..which has a very good role for him.

Jim Belushi has a few movies on his resume…..I saw a few of them in theaters….like Trading Places and Red Heat. Plus he has a Michael Caine movie too….so maybe he will get an UMR page in the future.

FYI…I was convinced John Belushi had a section in Joel’s book….but he does not…..can’t be right all the time. Good stuff.

  3. Only 33 when he died wow that’s sad. What a waste of a great talent.

I’ve seen 4 of the 7 films on the chart – Animal House, Blues Brothers, 1941 and Neighbors.

I saw Animal House at the cinema when it was brand new, loved it, a comedy classic.

I first saw the other three on video tape during the 1980s. Both 1941 and Blues Brothers were criticized as overblown and an expensive waste of money when they first came out but I enjoyed them both and have watched them many times over the decades.

    Good stuff Bruce. Vote Up.

    1. Hey Steve….I have seen all 7 of his movies. Yesterday, when I realized he would have been 70…..it seemed almost impossible….but he was 33 when passed…and that was 37 years ago. How did that time go by so fast? I know you love 1941 and The Blues Brothers…..1941 is one of your Christmas movies if I remember correctly. I agree that Animal House is a comedy classic. I actually think Continental Divide is one of his better movies. It is a side of Belushi that is so rarely seen. Heck…at dinner last night, my mom mentioned Continental Divide. I guess that movie has more of a following than I thought. Good feedback as always.
