John Wayne made 88 movies before becoming a star in 1939’s Stagecoach. From Stagecoach to 1976’s The Shootist, Wayne made another 82 movies. That is a grand total of 170 movies in his career. John Wayne was the first movie star that I became aware of as a child. I still remember the shock of watching him die in The Alamo (my older brother had told me he was going to survive…he obviously lied to me). For nearly forty years, Wayne was one of the most popular stars making movies.
John Wayne’s IMDb page shows 180 acting credits from 1926-1976. The following table only lists about half of John Wayne’s movies. Cameos, television appearances, and almost all of his B westerns from the 1930s were not included in the rankings. His remaining 94 movies are ranked by 6 different columns of sortable information.

It’s a shame, Green Baret is a really good movie
@Sharon and @Marilyn I like Green Berets too….then again…not sure there are any Wayne movies that I do not like….but The Green Berets was destroyed by critics in the 1960s….and it has a 5.6 IMDB rating….which makes it one of Wayne’s worst reviewed movies. But its box office success puts in 33rd place in my rankings….which I think is about right. 33rd out 82 movies is pretty good. Plus….as great as Mr. Wayne is….5 movies had to be on the bottom when looking at all of his movies.
I don’t understand Green Berets being on the Worst list. That is my all time favorite movie.

ya know Bruce,,, I love the movie, but I’m not the whole movie going public!
That is true Ronnie C.
If my memory is correct on this Duke’s movie, Tycoon was by Hollywood standards a total loss as it did not gross back the money it took to make the movie!
@Ronnie you are 100% correct…that is in the page….Tycoon cost about 3.2 million to make….and the fact that it grossed about 8.4 million in worldwide gross which was decent…it was not enough to overcome the large budget and lost over a million bucks in 1947…..OUCH!
Wow that’s a ton of information! I liked Brannigan though!
@Barb…I liked Brannigan too….but it got ignored by the public and got horrible reviews….I guess Duke’s fans did not want to see him hanging around London…..lol.
