    1. Thank you Pierre…..we are only 16 minutes away from joining you in 2019. Thanks for the kind wishes. It is greatly appreciated and sent your way as well! Happy New Year.

  2. Happy New Year to you and yours.

When I worked at BMI his brother James Voight aka Chip Taylor performed for us. He was affiliated with BMI (probably still is). Chip wrote Wild Thing and Angel of the Morning and some other top 40 hits.

Jon is # 166 on the December 15, 2018 Oracle of Bacon Top 1000 Center of the Hollywood Universe list. These are the other actors on the list he is affiliated with. Remember a lot of older actors came back on the list so we won’t refer to 2000’s list anymore.

    1. Hey Dan
      1. I know the lists are shorter….but I actually like them a lot more.
      2. It is good to see known actors versus unknown bit players.
      3. I see Danny Trejo is working his way back up the list….sitting at #86.
      4. 50% of the Top 10…not too bad for Mr. Voight.
      5. Lots of names I have not thought about in awhile….like Mako, Collen Camp (I used to have a crush on her) and John Diehl (character actor I never see anymore)
      6. 30 Oscar winning co-stars…a little on the low side.
      7. If you e-mail the Bacon Oracle guy again…let him know his lists are still pretty darn interesting….and he does not need IMDb at all.
Sorry again that this comment went AWOL
Happy New Year to you as well…..this is my final comment of 2018….gotta go watch the ball drop in 6 minutes.

  3. Some historians opine the highlights of Jon Voight’s career were in his early years with Deliverance, Midnight Cowboy & Coming Home. As Bruce says Jon was a popular leading man for a time, and on top of that he gave some fine performances outside the 3 films just mentioned. In fact IMDB credits him with 25 acting awards and 34 nominations overall.

However his personal box office performance is not vertiginous. Of the 18 films in the above chart that crashed the Cogerson magical adjusted domestic $100 million barrier Jon could be said by my yardstick to be the main star in round about 5 or just under 28%. The 33 films in the chart outside the 100 million bracket gross in total $780 million, which is an average of only $23.7 million per movie across the 33 concerned.

The young Jon of the Joe Buck days always reminded me in a way of David Soul who played Hutch in the popular TV series Starsky and Hutch [1975-1979] who also had a recording career but whereas Soul’s net worth is said to be $5 million Jon’s is $55 million.

The Work Horse recently touched on the “Red Scare” days in American and it would appear that Jon believes the menace still exists. When he was younger he had avowed Liberal views but has since denounced Liberalism seeming to feel that aspects of it are in the grip of “Marxists” who brainwashed the young Jon with propaganda. Today he is an avowed Trump supporter.

Steve is right in his comment that many lesser performers than Jon preceded him in obtaining “Cogerson love” but as I’ve said before one of the beauties of this site is its diversity aligned with its ongoing practice of giving stars at ALL levels a crack of the whip. Anyway it is better late than never for Jon so I “Vote Up!” his new page

    1. The Bob, Churchill said “if you are not a liberal at 20 you have no heart and if you are not a conservative at 40 you have no brain”.

    2. Hey Bob….nice comment on Jon Voight. Mark off another from the Joel Bible….another subject completed….slowly but surely knocking them out. I agree he has not had much success in stand alone movies…even his big hits of the 1970s had some solid other stars in the movie…from Dustin Hoffman to Burt Reynolds to Jane Fonda.

Interesting comparison between David Soul and Jon Voight….I can see that myself….though had not thought of that before reading your comment. Voight is a very conservative actor…it is actually good to see that he has not been blacklisted yet.

The UMR subjects picked are always pretty random……the request list is a good guide…..but time available is another huge factor…I had 46 of these movies already in the database…so it did not take too long to research this one.

Thanks for the vote up….Happy New Year to you and your family.

        1. Heu Bob…..te gratissimum…pono meministi tuam Latine

Hey Bob…..you are welcome….I assume you remember your Latin

          1. HI BRUCE

Latin was always my weak subject but, like Captain Kirk’s pals, I speak an excellent Klingon !

          2. Hey Bob….”not yap wa’ Hol” which as you know is “one language is never enough” in Klingon

  4. I have seen 3 Jon Voight movies:

Midnight Cowboy – I am most familiar with this movie and have seen it several times

Deliverance – just saw this for the first time on TCM on Wednesday uncut and commercial free which is their way during their Burt Reynolds memorial tribute. It was brutal and I won’t be watching it a second time

The Odessa File – enjoyable thriller I’ve seen more than once

    Have a Happy New Year

    1. Hey Flora….only 3? I figured you total would have been higher…but I guess he did not make too many movies before 1976. I see that 3 of the ones you have seen are all pre-1976. Of his recent movies….I would think you might like the first National Treasure movie….he is pretty good in that one. Thanks as always for the feedback…Happy New Year to you as well.

  5. Whoa I thought you were reviving an old page. Some really obscure names have gotten UMR pages before Jon Voight? Oh the humanity! [Bruce snarls]

There’s a connection here with your other recent page on Alicia Vikander, Jon Voight is the father of Angelina Jolie, the original and best Tomb Raider. Alicia is a good actress but seemed a little too fragile, thin and young as Lara Croft, at that time Jolie was at her sexiest and had Croft’s all important voluptuousnessess… 😉

That’s enough about Daughter of Voight let’s see the chart… I count 25 films out of 51 on the chart. Favorites include – Transformers (wonderful film), Heat (not bad), National Treasure 1 & 2 (fun), Runaway Train (Voight was superb as the nutjob con), Mission Impossible (the film was good but what they did with his character was bad), Pearl Harbor (worth watching for the 40min Japanese raid on Pearl), Tomb Raider (Jolie is pure eye candy in this and the sequel), Anaconda (so bad it’s good), Tropic Thunder (hilarious) and Deliverance (not as funny as Tropic Thunder).

    Good stuff Bruce. Vote Up!

btw your main chart doesn’t show his Oscar win for Coming Home.

    1. Hey Steve….the randomness of UMR. Pretty sure a Voight page has been requested over the years. When we were getting ready to leave for our Xmas trip…..he and Alicia popped into my head….the main connection was that they were Oscar winners.

Good connecting the dots to Voight, his daughter the old Lara Croft and the new Lara Croft (Alicia Vikander). I actually really enjoyed the latest Tomb Raider….has an outside chance of making my Top 10 movies seen in 2018.

So you have seen 25 Jon Voight movies. I have seen….counting…29 of his movies…so I barely edge your total. Ah….I see I am missing his Oscar win for Coming Home and his Oscar nomination for Runaway Train. I will fix those errors as soon as I get home later today. Thanks for the catch.

So you do not think Deliverance is as funny as Tropic Thunder? I guess I can see that…lol. I have a Deliverance DVD commentary that is on my list of movies to watch.

Pearl Harbor is a movie that I have not seen. I have seen parts of the movie but not start to finish…one day I will watch that whole movie. I agree with you about Runaway Train…..what a brutal good movie that one is….Voight is stellar in the movie.

      Good feedback as always.
