I saw 20 including top 18. two 10s: midnight cowboy not a favorite , and national treasure a favorite. one 9 and favorite laura croft tomb raider. hidden gems: ali, glory road, runaway train all 8s. his top 7 umr ratings are all one and done for me. I liked the next 11 UMR rated a lot more.
Hey bob cox….20 is a very decent total. I have only seen Midnight Cowboy once….probably time to view it again. I liked the first National Treasure too…much better than the second one. Runaway Train used to be on my list of best movies of all-time. On repeat viewings it has slipped off that list…..but it is still a good movie. Looks like, you like his later supporting roles versus his earlier leading roles. Good feedback as always.
HI BRUCE
Very humorous responses from you across the board bringing welcome New Year cheer, though Klingon itself is the one MUST language for a film buff to Master if the buff is to understand what some professional film critics are trying to say!
Hey Bob…here to please….lol.
Say Hello to Hour of the Gun…..now included on the Jon Voight table.
I have also seen Hour of the Gun. Therefore I have seen 4 movies on the Jon Voight table.
Thanks for the updated tally count Flora….sorry we left that movie off the list.
Jon Voight now has credit for his Oscar win for Coming Home and his Oscar nomination for Runaway Train. Next up….getting Hour of the Gun added to the table….and in the right order.
So finally, Jon Voight has his UMR page! I was trying to remember when Steve had made his utube video of Jon Voight in order to recover my comment from that time so that I would not repeat myself too much. This was not easy as as there are more than 1000 comments on the Steve utube video page and I had to go back all the way to September 2017 in order to find any-thing about Voight. How time flies! As I am lazy, I cut and paste part of my comment below:
“I did notice he is one of the few major American stars without a UMR page, but it’s his own fault. Despite his success in the 70s, he seemed to disappear every few years until the mid-90s, by which time his star had fallen considerably and he settle mainly in supporting roles. So overall, his career is not quite as great as it could have been. However, there is still hope for Voigt [sic!] on this site as Bruce once told me he may cover all best AA best actor winners. My favourite Voigt films are (not surprisingly) Midnight Cowboy, Deliverance and Runaway Train. Odessa File was pretty good but not as entertaining as the book.” – END of September 2017 comment
Looking at this page, it’s interesting to see how big of a hit Deliverance was upon its release. I did not expect that. Meanwhile, Runaway Train was a flop. It’s also evident that from the 1990s, Voight has been a successful character actor, appearing in many box office hits.
Finally, I note that you have left out Voight’s first film, The Hour of the Gun, with James Garner starring as Wyatt Earp. This is understandable as Voight only had minor role in that one, but still he was noticeable as one of Ike Clanton’s goons (Grotius)… especially when he gets shot by Jason Robards playing Doc Holliday!
Good stuff as always!
Hey PhilHoF17. Wow….sounds like going through all of Steve’s comments was more work than putting together a new comment…but either way…always good to hear from you. Wow…September 2017….almost a year and a half ago…..this adventure we are all on….sure does go fast.
There have been a few requests for a Voight page…..when I was preparing for our Xmas trip….his page looked like one of the easier ones to put together….so my trip to New Jersey is what finally got his number called. I have been knocking off lots of the Best Actor Winners off the list of pages to do….with Voight being complete…I am done to needing to do 19 more…and Colin Firth has been a finalist a few times recently.
Ok…back to Voight. Runaway Train was the 100th biggest hit that year…not even crossing $10 million in domestic box office. I discovered it on VHS….and the movie blew me away on the first viewing…so intense. Deliverance was about the 80th biggest hit of the decade….which is even more impressive considering the adult nature of some of the scenes. Made Burt Reynolds a star.
As for Hour Of The Gun…..hmmmm…..not sure what happened there. Currently WoC is running a massive website update…it has been going on for hours now…..I will get that one added to the page…not sure how I missed that….as I knew he was in the movie. I will have to add him to our Hour Of The Gun page. https://www.ultimatemovierankings.com/hour-gun-1967/
As always….greatly appreciate your input.
