  1. I saw Anthony LaPaglia in The Rose Tattoo at Circle in the Square with Oscar winner Mercedes Ruehl (this is an aside to Bob Roy’s comment).

I thought it was funny watching my wife proctoring a test via internet, 58 squares of different students doing the test on their computers. She had to watch their eyes to see if they were maybe flipping notes. They couldn’t look over at the next student’s test like in school.

Back to the point, Julia Stiles is somehow # 828 on the Oracle of Bacon Top 1000 Center of the Hollywood Universe list. These are the people she has acted with on the list (very rarely seeing her in anything anymore).

    1. Hey Dan
      1. Thanks as always for the comment, feedback and trivia lists.
      2. I bet Bob is envious that you got to see Anthony LaPaglia in The Rose Tattoo.
      3. Seems Anthony LaPaglia has had more success on television and on stage versus movie….but I am sure I will eventually get to doing an UMR page on him….gotta keep Bob happy…lol.
      4. Online teaching. I know exactly what you are talking about. Using the grid view….and seeing everybody in your class…..is very interesting. Here in Virginia…..we are not doing grades…so all of our lessons and work…are pretty stress free.
      5. Ok…Julia Stiles. Cool that she is in the Oracle 1000….I imagine she is losing ground as the years pass on. The curse of 39 might be biting her….as she will be the big 40 next year….not the peak time for actresses.
      6. First list, Matt Damon wins the title of most Frequent Oracle Co-Star. Looking at your 4 movies…I am realizing I have left off one of her Bourne movies…I will fix that after this comment.
      7. Second list, 16 is on the low end of things….not thinking her number is going to rapidly increase in the next few years…as her projects seem to be going in the opposite direction of big budgeted movies.
Good stuff as always…now to add a Bourne movie to this table.

  2. I used to watch Ten Things I Hate About You all the time when I was younger. Loved Julia and Heath Ledger as a couple. Good memories with her and that movie.

    1. Hey Helakoski. I have seen 10 Things I Hate About You a few times myself….mainly because somebody I used to know, loved that movie. I agree with you about the Ledger/Stiles couple. Good to hear from you…stay safe and healthy.

  3. I’ve seen 7 films starring or co-starring Julia Stiles, favorites are the Bourne movies and that’s about it. Silver Linings Playback was okay, might watch it again some day.

The Omen remake had some interesting bits but was too closely modeled on the classic original with even the same dialogue.

I’ve also seen The Devil’s Own which sadly isn’t a horror movie and 10 Things I Hate About You, starring Heath Ledger and loosely based on Shakespeare’s The Taming of the Shrew.

    Nice work Bruce. Vote Up!

    1. Hey Steve. Thanks for stopping by and commenting on our Julia Stiles page. Tally count….21 for me and 7 for you. WoC and I really enjoyed Silver Linings Playbook. We own the DVD, yet, we have not re-watched it since seeing it in theaters. So I guess it is time for a re-visit. 10 Things I Hate About You was one of my ex-wife’s favorite movies….I think she really liked Heath Ledger in that one. As for The Devil’s Own….I disagree…..that Brad Pitt Irish accent was pretty damn scary!….lol. Good stuff as always.

  4. JULIA is indeed the main female lead in TV’s Riviera’s season 3 [mentioned in Part One of this post] and the male lead is Anthony LaPaglia who to me is a wonderfully entertaining actor who should probably have HIS Cogerson page as he has had massive cinematic and TV careers and has also acted on the stage in classics like Tennessee Williams’ The Rose Tattoo and Arthur Miller’s A View from the Bridge. Also between 2012 and 2014 Julia appeared in 40 episodes of the Web television series Blue where she had the top billed title role.

Despite my negligence of Julia’s big screen career this new page is “Voted Up!” because of how much I enjoyed Julia in Dexter and because I have long been a fan of the diversity that Bruce brings to his site.

Julia has a reported net worth currently of $12 million and IMDB credits her with 14 acting awards and 18 noms including I am pleased to say Golden Globe and Primetime Emmy noms for Dexter – see Work Horse I may not watch as many movies as you and the other 2 members of the Big 3 but I catch up on all material that COUNTS!!

In the pipeline for her and in fact scheduled for release this week is the thriller The God Committee [sounds like a body that Joel might well have chaired in his day with Bruce taking the minutes!]. In that one Julia has the female lead opposite top billed Kelsey Grammer who has long been a big fave with me via Cheers and Frasier TV sitcoms. I shall therefore certainly be watching THAT Styles movie whenever and wherever it shows up over here.

    1. Hey Bob. I will keep Anthony LaPaglia in mind. Thanks for the information on her net worth, her upcoming projects and her awards. I am betting The God Committee will be another one of her low scorers. I hope the 2020s provide a better platform for Julia Stiles. Good stuff.

  5. I have seen Julia in just 3 movies: Save the Last Dance; Myrna Lisa Smile; and Silver Linings Playbook [which I didn’t like-one gets fed up with DeNiro using the F word]. Even The Work Horse should be able to beat THAT tally! I have no interest in Jason Bourne; The Omen is “old hat”; and most of the other films in the tables above would be unlikely to appeal to me.

Indeed if the Cogerson review ratings are anything to go by Bruce’s sources would probably advise me that I can safely go on missing 19 of Julia’s last 25 movies and that’s a big number. Also according to Wikipedia 3 of Julia’s movies since 2014 have gone straight to video and I have seen none of those either Here’s what one write up on Julia says about her current career:

“In the early 2000’s and late ’90’s Stiles had a bright Hollywood future and everyone thought she was on her way straight to the top but over the last decade and a half, her star in Hollywood might have dimmed a little.”

However I did watch Julia extensively as Lumen Pierce in 10 episodes [all in 2010] of the serial killer TV Series Dexter and was most impressed by her in that role. She has in fact been in 11 television productions [including Dexter] between 1993 and the present; and another one of those is the 3rd season of the drama series Rivera in 21 episodes of which she has starred since 2017

    1. Hey Bob. Thanks for the feedback on our Julia Stiles page. Last night WoC was talking about her (The Prince and Me part one came up) and she was shocked that I did not have Stiles page. Well…we do now. Thanks for the tally count….I slightly top that total…as I have seen 21 of her movies.

I agree her career has dimmed a little. Her 2010s were not too impressive. 3 good movies for the entire decade…compared to 7 movies that did not even reach double figures in the UMR score. Funny that you bring up Dexter. I am about half way through a Netflix movie called In The Shadow Of The Moon….in that one Dexter is playing a supporting actor…..I kept thinking….I thought Michael C. Hall would have been bigger after the success of Dexter. Dexter was a show I really liked, though I did not like the last season. Stiles season is a good one…..it followed the best Dexter season…that being the John Lithgow one. Good stuff as always.

      1. HI BIG BOY:Thanks for the feedback. I am glad you too liked Dexter. Colin Hanks son of the Great Thomas was in season 6 in 2011and he was very good.

Actually W o Bob and I have just finished watching Michael C in the Netflix [8 episode] television series “SAFE” [2018]. IMDB gives it a 73% rating and it was enjoyable enough but I thought it was a bit convoluted with characters and it kept quickly switching back and forward from one to the other most of the time so that at times my grasp of continuity suffered especially if we left too long a period between the viewing of one episode and the next.

It is an English production and when you Yanks condescend to appear in our film/TV industry projects in the United Kingdom it usually means your career is in trouble! However Michael C actually turns in a passable English accent in his role as a respected doctor and he’s still getting more work as he has in the pipeline (1) Shadowplay a thriller TV series the first 8 episodes of which are to air shortly and in which he has just a supporting role; and voice participation in a documentary The Gettysburg Address also at post-production stage.

By coincidence we have just recorded 2014’s Cold in July a thriller starring Michael C in the top billed lead. IMDB gives it a respectable 68% rating; but whatever others think W o Bob and her slave always do her own thing so we shall watch it. I doubt though if Mike will ever top Dexter.

        1. Hey Bob. Speaking of Dexter…..I have actually been working on something….that is outside my box of expertise…but I am having fun with it…..it should be completed, hopefully by today….but Dexter is part of that project.

As for season 6……I liked Colin in the role….just did not like how they wrapped things up….I especially did not like what they did with Dexter’s step sister…..it seemed to go against everything they set up in the first 5 years.

As for Cold in July….it is a decent thriller….look for Kurt and Goldie’s son, Wyatt, in a small but important part. Good stuff as always.
