Want to know the best Keanu Reeves movies? How about the worst Keanu Reeves movies? Curious about Keanu Reeves’ box office grosses or which Keanu Reeves movie picked up the most Oscar® nominations? Need to know which Keanu Reeves movie got the best reviews from critics and audiences and which got the worst? Well you have come to the right place….because we have all of that information.
Since we started up this website in March of 2015 we have tried to publish a new movie page every three or four days….rotating between classic performers and current performers. Well Monday… we published a page on Anthony Perkins so it was time to do a current performer. So I looked in my request notebook and saw many classic performers but only Elizabeth Banks in the current performer request list. Well as I was trying to decide if I should do a Banks page or not….we got word that the matriarch of my wife’s family was not doing so well and an emergency trip to Alabama was required this weekend. So while frantically packing for our 1600 mile weekend trip I decided I would have to pick somebody that I already had most of their movies in my database already. A quick check showed that I already had 37 of Keanu Reeves’ movies in my database. So with that knowledge…we are ready for our next movie page…..sorry Elizabeth Banks….at this time we are looking at the movie career of Keanu Reeves.
Keanu Reeves’ IMDb page shows over 107 acting credits since 1984. This page will rank Keanu Reeves movies from Best to Worst in six different sortable columns of information. His cameos, television roles, shorts, and straight to DVD movies were not included in the rankings.

If you do a comment….please ignore the email address and website section.
After the mega-hit Speed consolidated Keanu’s stardom his success at the box office was hit-or-miss and for a large part the latter. As the tables above show, whist 9 of his post-Speed movies earned over $100 million each in adjusted grosses at the US box office, almost three times that number [25] since Speed have had a total adjusted domestic gross of just around $675 million, a paltry average of approx $27 million per movie.
About half a dozen of that 25 were hits in the overseas market, but WH has given us global figures for the 16 of the 25 and the 16 have an overall adjusted global gross per movie of only around $97 million – ie not crashing the magical Cogerson $100 million barrier in terms of even TOTAL cinematic earnings.
However those factors have not stopped Keanu from becoming probably one of the richest stars in the history of movies as Celebrity Net Worth credits him with a fortune of $360 million. He has generated 12 acting awards and 25 noms according to IMDB – frankly an unimpressive haul in today’s movie world where awards and noms seem to be thrown by the bucket-load at even hyped-up performers who are often largely “famous for being famous”. Also sadly Reeves has been denied any kind of love whatsoever in WH’s book and lists of Greatest Screen Legends 1950-2010.
I have a sore typing finger at the moment so Part 2 tomorrow.
Audiences in the modern era may well know Keanu best for Speed and the Matrix and John Wick movies. However my own 3 fave Reeves movies are Speed, Point Break and Something’s Gotta Give, but the Matrix films don’t interest me and I’ve never watched them and I found John Wick unwatchable. However I see you and WH give those two films high ratings and I did like virtually every poster and still that you gave us for Matrix and John Wick.

You and Bruce agree on 4 of the Top 6 Best Reviewed. I could never understand why first WH and now you award Something’s Gotta Give such relatively middling ratings [71% and 68% respectively]. To me it was a charming piece of “mush” up in the 80% bracket; but it won’t worry either of you being wrong because to paraphrase Bickford in The Big Country “You have both been wrong before!” Anyway some classy stuff overall in your video and my own rating for that is 98%.
Hi Bob, thanks for the review, generous rating, box office info, trivia and comparison, always appreciated. Happy you liked the posters and stills.
Keanu Reeves isn’t the best actor around but he has worked with some great directors in the past. I remember reading a magazine interview with Charlie Sheen back in the 1990s in which he was dumbstruck (and clearly envious) that Keanu was getting to work with directors like Stephen Frears, Kenneth Branagh, Bertolucci and Coppola and they weren’t hiring him instead.
Reeves has become an action movie icon thanks to Speed, The Matrix, Point Break and the recent highly rated John Wick movies. 25 years ago he probably thought he would only be remembered as the dimwitted Ted in the popular Bill & Ted adventures. Luckily Point Break came along. Matthew Broderick and Charlie Sheen were also considered for the lead role.
Two films scored 10 out of 10 from my sources – The Matrix and Speed. Three more scored 9 out of 10 – Parenthood, Dracula and Dangerous Liaisons.
The Matrix tops IMDBs chart (and mine), Toy Story 4 is no.1 at Rotten Tomatoes and Bruce’s critics chart.
“As a kid, I didn’t dream of becoming a movie star. No, I dreamt of travelling to distant planets in flying machines. I loved acting, though, and by the time I was a teenager, it was something I wanted to do with my life. I was acting professionally by the time I was 16. I grew up around the business – my stepfather was a director, my mother was a costume designer – but I also loved sport and, at one point, thought of doing that as a career. I played hockey, basketball and baseball.”
“Of course to work with Jack Nicholson and Diane Keaton, and work with a wonderful, beautiful script directed by Nancy Meyers, it was really for me a dream come true.”
Keanu on Patrick Swayze – “There was some sky diving sequences in Point Break we did together and as filming was going on it came to be that Patrick was jumping out of airplanes all the time. I think he had over 30 jumps during the course of filming and so the production served him with a cease and desist which he listened to until they got to Hawaii. He jumps out of planes and did the flips and falling to the ground and he did it with an open heart. I’ll always remember (Patrick) lighting up a room with his presence. I can say what I know that he lived life to the fullest.”
Btw Bob, Bruce, Flora. I’m having a much needed break from video making, But I’ll be back soon. Back… to the classics. 🙂
Glad to hear you still have some classic subjects to feature. Enjoy your break.
Hey Steve….like forward says…hope you enjoy your video break.
HI STEVE
Thanks for the usual comprehensive feedback.
I especially liked the quote and trivia about Swayze. For the brief time he was at the top he was one of my fave modern actors. His 1989 Road House is one of my all-time fave films despite WH giving it just a 58% rating.
Hope you enjoy your break.
Bob, Flora, thank you for viewing and commenting on these videos.
Bob, Road House is a favorite of mine too. When I get round to doing a Patrick Swayze video I’ll make sure it gets more than a 58% rating, hey my videos my ratings! 😉
Hey Bob…I liked Somethings Got To Give…..but it was not a critical darling back then. Looking back on it now….it was his Father Goose movie…the last time he go the the girl in a movie. Good movie thoughts on Steve’s video and Keanu’s career.
HI BRUCE
Glad you like ‘Gotta Give’.
It was a nice tribute that Keanu gave Jack and Diane as recounted by Steve. One would love to be a fly on the wall of the sets where those types of thespians get together and engage in personal off-camera banter.
By coincidence I saw a Diane Keaton interview recently in which she said that when she met The Great Mumbler for the first time ever on the set of Godpop he greeted her with “Hello Big T**s”. Rude boy! I thought, but she just laughed at it.
Added Steve’s Keanu Reeves You Tube Video To The Page. Our thoughts found on his page.
“Keanu is having one of the best years of his career. John Wick 3 was huge and liked by critics and audiences. His voice role in Toy Story 4 was a highlight in that billion grossing movie. He has eight movie in different layers of post production….including John Wick 4 and Bill and Ted 3. Marvel MCU is in heavy contracts to get Reeves in that universe. Overall….it has to be good to be Keanu right now. Of the 44 movies listed here I have seen 37 of them. Favorites include #3 Speed, #1 The Matrix, #9 Parenthood, #8 The Devil’s Advocate, #11 John Wick, #12 Point Break and #39 Henry’s Crime…really like Keanu and James Caan in this one. Wow….a lot more favorites than I expected. Recently I watched #36 Destination Wedding…and I enjoyed that one too. Surprised it did not get more of a release. Good video voted up and shared and responded mere moments after you published. Gotta thank Hurricane Dorian…which closed schools today.”
Hi Bruce, I still haven’t seen John Wick 3, I’ve preordered the blu-ray, looking forward to watching it soon. I loved the first two John Wick films.
Yep Keanu fever is on the rise again, there’s a Bill & Ted as middle-aged men movie in the works, as well as a 4th Matrix movie, not bad.
Your tally 37, mine 26, Flora 3. Thanks for the comment, vote and share, much appreciated. I’ll have a break from videos and return with a new series soon.
Keanuuuuuuuuu. Great Page.
Seen: 18/45 or 45%
Favorite Top 10: The Matrix, saw this with Grandpa at the dollar theater in Churchland.
UMR Snub: Too Low…John Wick not in the Top 10????
Guilty Pleasure: This one is close…who doesn’t love Point Break but then there is The Replacements and Johnny Mnemonic.
Interesting Fact: Are Johnny Utah and Shane Falco related?
Hey BryRog57…..18 is not too bad…but so far behind your old man….as I have seen 38 of his movies or 85%. He has a couple of direct to home entertainment movies I have not seen….plus John Wick 3 and Toy Story 4 coming….those are the ones I want to see.
John Wick 1 was only a modest box office hit….which is why it is ranked so low….but when you sort by reviews it does much better…coming into 7th place. I think Point Break is the guilty pleasure of lots of people. The remake was horrible.
Interesting about Johnny and Shane…I had not thought of that before….thanks for stopping by.
Loved John Wick 2..just got out of movie theater. Keanu is back and better than ever!
Hey Barbara ….glad you like John Wick 2. Keanu is having great success with this character. Thanks for the mini-review.
