  1. With certain of the films that Bruce has highlighted in his lead-in above Kris seemed to be building a nice career for himself in the 1970s. However it stalled with the massive flop of Heaven’s Gate and never seemed to me to regain potential top-star momentum.

Bruce’s stats tend to bear out my impressions because his tables show 7 other films that Kris made in the 1980s immediately following Heaven’s Gate and the combined adjusted domestic gross of the 7 is approx $98 million [average $14 million] and Bruce’s sources award them an average review rating of just 57% – ie less that good by Cogerson yardsticks.

Kris has survived though in a string of lesser films and/or supporting roles and possibly the reason for that is that he has such a strong personality [in my perception at least- regardless of Joel making one of his regular sweeping statements] that he Kris hard to ignore when he is on the screen. I especially liked his brutal and menacing villain in Mel Gibson’s Payback.

Not long ago is saw Kris in a 1992 TV remake of Barbara Stanwyck’s Christmas in Connecticut. It was not up to much [47% rated by IMDB] but Kris was in good company – Dyan Cannon [the ex -Mrs Leach] in Stanwyck’s old role; Tony Curtis in a delicious “3rd wheel” supporting part; and the film was directed by The Terminator himself taking a break from his then-tough-guy heyday as an actor.

  2. I’ve seen 13 of 67 films on the chart, less than I thought. Favorites are – Convoy, Millennium, Payback, Planet of the Apes and Blade 1-2-3.

I’ve also seen – Pat Garret and Billy the Kid, Semi-Tough, Fire Down Below, D-Tox, Heaven’s Gate and He’s Just Not That Into You.

    Good stuff Bruce. Vote Up!

  3. When Kris Kristofferson is clean-shaven, he’s bland – but a beard miraculously transforms him into an exciting romantic star. His low-key affable acting style can be colorless until he has a vivid leading lady to play against.

    1. Another Joel subject off the board…for those keeping track…380 down…30 to go.

I have seen 27 of his movies….favorites would be Payback, his performance in A Star Is Born, Blade 1 and 2 and Flashpoint (though it has been a long time since seeing that one).
