Best IMDb Trivia On Laura Dern

1. Laura Elizabeth Dern was born in Los Angeles, California in 1967. Her parents, are actor Bruce Dern and actress Diane Ladd.

2.  Martin Scorsese was one of the first to encourage her to pursue acting. Scorsese directed Laura in an uncredited performance in Alice Doesn’t Live Here Anymore (1974), in which she ate an ice cream cone. The scene required to be taken 19 times and therefore she had to eat 19 cones in a row. When she managed through them all, without feeling sick and without any scene of resistance, director Scorsese said to her mother, Diane Ladd, “She has to be an actress”.

3. Laura Dern knew she wanted to be an actress at age 11, but her parents hated the idea. However, she decided to contact an agent for possible acting jobs, without the blessing of her unaware parents.

4.  Before 2019, Laura Dern had never appeared in a Best Picture Oscar® nominated film.  2019 saw her appear in not one, but two movies that earned a Best Picture Oscar® nomination:  Marriage Story and Little Women.

5. Laura Dern beat out Helen Hunt and Gwyneth Paltrow, among others, for the role of Dr. Ellie Sattler in Jurassic Park (1993). This was revealed to Dern herself, when she visited ‘The Today Show’ to promote the 3D re-release of the film in 2013. The audition tapes of the other actresses were shown to Dern, to which she responded “Well, I’m a lucky girl”.

    1. Hey Taylor. I agree she has put together a very solid career. I think it is safe to say her leading lady days might be limited, but her supporting role career looks like it is just starting. Good stiff as always.

  1. I’ve seen 12 of the 41 films on the chart. Favorites are – Jurassic Park 1 & 3, Star Wars the Last Jedi and A Perfect World.

Wild at Heart, Mask and Blue Velvet were good films, highly rated by some but not films I want to watch over and over.

I haven’t seen Rambling Rose. Marriage Story is already on Netflix I might give it a go.

Good trivia by Bruce, Bob and Dan, I had forgotten she was Bruce Dern’s daughter.

    Nice work Bruce. Vote Up.

    1. Hey Steve. Thanks as always for the feedback. My tally has yours doubled…..not that I am bragging….lol. I know what you mean about Wild at Heart, Blue Velvet and Mask (and you can add Marriage Story to that list)….good movies that do not beg to be re-watched. Now Jurassic Park is a movie that begs to be re-watched. Bruce Dern is having a good day on UMR too…at one point he had more views than his daughter. I thought maybe he had passed away. luckily I was wrong, that maybe he had passed. Good stuff as always.

  2. While I was putting this together I started watching a TV series called Deadline which ran from 1959 to 1961, syndicated. It’s an anthology series about newspaper reporters, the first 2 episodes being true stories using real names. The reason I mention this is the first episode “The Victor Riesel Story” features Laura’s mom, Diane Ladd, in her TV debut.

Laura is not on the current Oracle of Bacon list. She has been on, fallen off, come back on again and fallen off again. These are the actors on the current list she has appeared with.

    1. Hey Dan
      1. As always…thank you….you are the man.
      2. Interesting about The Victor Riesel Story showing up on television while putting these lists together.
      3. I suspect she will be back on the list by the end of the year….she is probably as busy as she has ever been….and a probable Oscar win should keep her very active in the near future.
      4. First list is massive….and momma bear Diane Ladd is her most frequent Oracle co-star……not thinking she has made too many movies with pappa bear Bruce Dern.
      5. I would say 30 Oscar winning co-stars is above average for an actress.
Good stuff on Laura Dern……as always…THANK YOU.

  3. 1/In addition to the excellent trivia information that Bruce has provided above it is maybe worth mentioning that through her mother, Diane Ladd, Laura is obliquely related to the playwright Tennessee Williams and the poet Sidney Lanier.

2/Of the films listed above I have seen just Little Fockers, Myrna Doesn’t Live Here Any More, The Master and the Jurassic Park franchise.

3/However I have recently watched Laura as Loretta Klein in all 14 episodes of Big Little Lies, the hit tv series [2017-2019] co-starring Reese Witherspoon and Nicole Kidman.

4/In both leading and supporting role categories, treble Oscar nominee and multi Golden Globe and Prime Time Emmy winner/nominee Laura is credited overall with 49 acting awards and 89 noms by IMDB. In 2010, Laura, mom Diane Ladd and dad Brue Dern were jointly honoured with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.

5/: According to Celebrity Net Worth site Laura Dern, Diane Ladd and Bruce Dern all have a net worth of around $20 million each. Laura’s fellow Jurassic co-stars Jeff Goldblum and Sam Neill are estimated to have $40 million and $18 million respectively.

6/ADDITIONAL TRIVIA: ‘ABOUT’ – Here’s what the Celeb Net Worth site currently says about itself on the net:

“All net worths are calculated through the combination of a robust methodology and a proprietary algorithm. The results are fact checked and confirmed by a team of editors and industry insiders. We work diligently to ensure that our numbers are the most accurate celebrity net worth data you will find anywhere on the internet.”

Sounds like Celeb Net Worth have their own Team Cogerson busily beavering away night and day! Anyway this new page is “Voted Up!”

    1. Hey Bob…..I saw that Tennessee Williams connection when I was putting together the facts part of the page….I guess my Williams bias stopped me from including it. Thanks for sharing the Laura Dern movies you have seen. I suspect she will soon be called…Oscar winning actress Laura Dern. She is really good in Marriage Story. A movie with great performances that is so depressing that I will probably not watch it for many years. Good info on her net worth…and her famous parents. Bruce Dern is still super active these days. Team Cogerson greatly appreciates your efforts.

      1. HI BRUCE{ Thanks for your feedback.

Do you think Sly would have been satisfied with being a relative of Tennessee even if Stallone couldn’t get into one of the Great Man’s plays on screen?

I always thought Diane Ladd was a member of the extensive Ladd dynasty but can find no connection between her and the Great Alan – have you any info on the subject yourself from your much more comprehensive sources thatn mine?

Anyway I hope you are enjoying your weekend and that all your various commitments in the new year are successfully falling into place – give your regulars like me an update sometime when you can spare the time. Meanwhile we’ll keep our fingers crossed for Laura at the Oscars. I don’t want HER to be holding up just an honorary one 30 years from now!!!

        1. I am sure lots of people would love to be related to Mr. Williams. Including Stallone. Interesting that you thought Laura’s mom was related to Alan Ladd. As for Laura’s win…..right now according to the odds she is one of the best bets to win next month. Good stuff.

  4. It looks like Laura Dern is the front runner to win a Best Supporting Actress Oscar winner…so figured it was time to give Ms. Dern a turn in the UMR spotlight. My tally count? 25 Laura Dern movies seen.
