Drivel part of the page: WoC’s big sister spent the Christmas holiday with us. She (SILOC -Sister-in-law of Cogerson) is a judge in Alabama. During her stay she suggested two new pages for UMR. Her first suggestion was a Top Comedy Movies page, while her second suggestion was a page on lawyer movies. While we work on the comedy page, we decided to create this Lawyer movie page. Is it all the lawyer movies? Of course not. If your favorite lawyer movie is not listed, please leave a comment below and I will get that movie included.

HI BRUCE
You say : “I agree that Willis was on record that Die Hard is NOT a Christmas movie…..but…..what does a dumb old actor know?” Viewers who are aware that you are a big Willis fan must be asking themselves what cinemagoers who DO NOT like Willis think of his intellectual qualities!!
Anyway Hackman as usual was marvellous in Runaway Jury. It’s a pity that this was Gene’ penultimate film and that the final one was such a flop – 2004’s Welcome to Mooseport which has a paltry Cogerson adjusted domestic gross of around $21 million.
Its overseas gross was even more dire amounting to just $25,000 actual total according to one quote that I’ve seen. Heck even a film with Myrna Loy as the sole star with no box office star being involved would probably have made more than that abroad.
I do marvel at the way that you have the time and capacity to keep up-to-date with the latest movies and box office figures of the droves of stars in your pages– so take a bow for that recurring achievement.
By the way did you know that Tom Cruise had it in his contract that his name alone would go above the title on the posters for 1993’s The Firm and Tom therefore insisted that Gene had to be billed below the title.
Hackman appealed but was ignored so rather than suffer the ignominy of the arrangement he asked that his name be excluded altogether from the posters? Gene does get equal 2nd billing to Tom on the screen though.
Peter Lorre was right when he said that Hollywood stars spend so much time bickering over billing that it was off-putting to him in its childishness.
To be fair Brando and Clint Eastwood deferred to Gene his due respect when they accepted his equal billing to them in Marlon’s 19 78 Superman and Clint’s 1992 Unforgiven and 1997 Absolute Power; and Clint is on record as intimating that Hackman was among those actors who richly deserved to get good parts in top class movies.
I have seen 101 of these films. The highest ranked I have not seen is I am Sam.
Hey Dan….well….darn…I was hoping with my tally of 92 that I might have a chance to top you on this one. Congrats again.
But…..
The most important stat…..as I work on my Top 10 Best and Worst movies on 2022…..my current tally of movies watched in 2022 is 605…..that total might reach 210 depending on what is going on in my house the next couple of days….so do you have me topped here as well?
Is that 205 2022’s? Presuming 605 is your total for all movies, you will have beaten me there. I have also lost my source for Netflix, Paramount +, Disney movies, all streaming, etc. I used to get some of them from my source, so you may have beaten me in 2022’s too.
Hey Dan. I have seen 142 movies made in 2022 and a grand total of 612 movies for the year. I gave up Netflix too. Never had Paramount+. We have Disney + but I rarely watch it, though I did watch Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special on that platform. Currently it looks like the last movie watched this year will be Retroactive….a horrible Jim Belushi movie that looked interesting when I was doing a page on him.
HI BIB GUY!
Thanks for your multiple replies my own posts.
I was interested to see your own personal Top 10 Lawyer movies once you put “statistically speaking” to one side. A pretty respectable Top 10 at that; and in fact Runaway Jury (your No 7) was next on MY list and I had considered cheating by making it a joint No 10 – but you know what an honest guy I am!
I have passed-on your comments about my son’s promotion to him. I didn’t have the heart to spoil the party by telling him your index of pages included the most comporehensive round-up I have ever seen of Ladd’s movies!
He’s sitting beside me at the moment watching a movie on a tablet. Thus have movie screens shrunk oiver the years!
Your additional ‘evidence’ about Die Hard is noted and is firm enough. However I always have the trump card up my own sleeve: Willis himself insists Die Hard was not an Xmas movie.
Please enjoy seeing the New Year in and I look forward to seeing what the site has to offer during 2023.
You are probably already aware that I daily use extensively the site and your books for my personal movie exercises. And if I’m in a forgiving mood I even look up Joel at times.
Hey Bob…good information on your end of the year activities with your son. I agree that Willis was on record that Die Hard is NOT a Christmas movie…..but…..what does a dumb old actor know?….lol. Glad that you have the Runaway Jury near your Top 10. I always enjoy the scenes that show how a high end attorney picks the jurors. Good stuff as always.
