Leonard Nimoy

LeonardNimoyMy tribute to the late, great Leonard Nimoy.

February 27, 2015 – Today the phone at my house rang just as I was checking my e-mail.  As my oldest son, stationed in Alaska, starting talking I started reading an e-mail from my friend Steve Lensman which said….”Gutted to hear that Leonard Nimoy has died. A black day for sci-fi fans and Star Trek fans, like me”.  As I was digesting that information my son asked me if I heard anything he had just said.  I told him no…and then told him the news that Leonard Nimoy had passed away today.  That is how my son and I heard  this very sad news.

I grew up watching Star Trek rerun episodes.  The original Enterprise crew almost seems like family.  I was sad when James Doohan (Scotty) and DeForest Kelly (Bones McCoy) passed away….but I am heartbroken that we have lost Mr. Spock.

It has now been hours since I found about Leonard Nimoy’s passing…and I was checking out his movies in my database.  I figured it would be good way to give tribute to Mr. Nimoy by putting together a Top Ten Leonard Nimoy Movie table.  So here you go my tribute to one of my favorite actors ever…Mr. Leonard Nimoy.

Leonard Nimoy first started showing up in movies in 1951.  From his first appearance in 1951’s Queen For A Day to his last appearance in 2013’s Star Trek: Into Darkness he was a very busy man.   His IMDb page shows 134 acting credits, 12 directing credits, 4 writing credits and 3 producing credits

Leonard Nimoy Movies Can Be Ranked 6 Ways In This Table

The really cool thing about this table is that it is “user-sortable”. Rank the movies anyway you want.

  • Sort Leonard Nimoy movies by his job in movie: actor, director or writer
  • Sort Leonard Nimoy movies by adjusted domestic box office grosses using current movie ticket cost (in millions)
  • Sort Leonard Nimoy movies by yearly domestic box office rank
  • Sort Leonard Nimoy movies how they were received by critics and audiences.  60% rating or higher should indicate a good movie.
  • Sort by how many Oscar® nominations and how many Oscar® wins each Leonard Nimoy movie received.
  • Sort Leonard Nimoy movies by Ultimate Movie Rankings (UMR) Score. UMR Score puts box office, reviews and awards into a mathematical equation and gives each movie a score.

The final words of this page come from Leonard Nimoy’s final tweet on February 23, 2015.

  1. Going through the site index for artists I haven’t done yet.

I am a fan of the original series as opposed to the Star Trek world in general. I started watching it when I was in university.I saw all of the original cast movies. I am a fan of all three main actors, Shatner, Nimoy, and Kelley. Deforest Kelley I am most familiar within the cast for overall career.
I have not seen the movie series reboot.

I loved Three Men and a Baby.

Harve Bennett and Grace Lee Whitney also died last year. Nichelle Nichols survived a stroke.

    1. Wow….this was one of the first UMR pages ever done. Going to have to go back and give it a facelift. It was such a sad day when he passed. Since writing these pages….a few times someone’s death has motivated me to do a page that day…not to get views (though I am sure that is how it comes across to some)….but as a way for me to deal with that loss. It happened with Tony Scott (director), Harold Ramis (everything) and Nimoy.

There will always be a place in my heart for the original Star Trek crew….the reboots are good….and both feature Nimoy….sad he will not be in the 3rd one….but I am guessing he will get some type of tribute.

Thanks for checking out my Nimoy page.

      1. Facelift done. Much happier with this Nimoy tribute page…hard to believe a year is almost here since his passing.

  2. Very nice tribute, we watched Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan today. That was how we paid tribute to Mr. Spock. “Live Long and Prosper”

  3. I was sad to hear of his passing too. I did not know that he directed 3 Men and A Baby…that was a good movie. I remember him in Invasion of the Body Snatchers – he played one of the bad guys in that one. Good to get an update. THANKS.

    1. Hey BERN1960…..I agree with you 100%. I think everybody but the last girl were bad guys in Invasion of the Body Snatchers. Thanks for stopping by.

  4. Nice tribute. So sad he’s gone, he admitted to smoking too much and should have stopped earlier. Spock was iconic, arguably the most famous alien in all of sci-fi. Interesting to see how successful the old Trek films were adjusted for inflation. My favorites and most watched are ST-TMP and Khan. I liked the new Treks too. I hope they start exploring space with next one, I don’t want to see them on Earth again. Watched Body Snatchers last night. Good work Bruce [raises hand] Live Long and Prosper.

    1. Hey Steve….I hope you do not mind me sharing your words on this page. If Spock is not the most famous alien then who is? I hope Spock pops up in Star Trek 3….that would be special. Thanks for the comment. LLAP.

    1. NimoyLLAP….yep I agree. I actually re-tweeted that tweet a few days ago…I actually thought it meant he was doing better…now I know it was his goodbye.
