  1. HI BRUCE: Thanks for the response.

Popeye always sticks in my mind because although he had a supporting role in an obscure 1977 film 1980s Popeye was Robin Williams’ real big screen debut.
Robin at that time was more famous to audiences over here for TV’s Mork and Mindy series [1978-82].

I have mentioned to you that in earlier decades TV performers were regarded as the “poor relations” of big screen stars and I am afrad in that respect I too was once – a snob; Heck Joel and I do have something in common after all!

So I saw Robin as a big screen interloper and had no interest in even his TV work and especially didn’t think much of Mork and Mindy. Since then I have grown to love him because of his warm screen personality and his seemingly ‘caring’ ethos expressed via his movies such as Good Will Hunting/The Fisher King and my own personal fave The Best of Times. Via the performances of Kurt Russell and Robin in that movie Reno Hightower [Kurt] and Jack Dundee [Robin] became legends as characters with my brothers and me throughtou the late 1980s and all of the 1990s

Robin’s premature death saddened me of course and I regarded the stand-up comic chemistry between him and Billy Crystal as akin to that between Griffith and Knotts in THEIR TV appearances.

    1. Hey Dan. Thanks for sharing these trivia lists. Both lists are pretty short compared to most of your others. Looks like Mel Gibson is her most frequent Oracle co-star. 15 Oscar winning co-stars is low but actually a good percentage when looking at her small amount of movies. Good stuff as always.

  3. Linda who first came to fame as Mrs Holly Oxheart in 1980’s Popeye has been acting for nearly half-a-century now and has built up a substantial multi-medium career with my sources crediting her with 29 movies overall- 21 of which are comprehensively covered above/16 television productions/7 theatrical plays and 6 video games.

She has a reported current net worth of $12 million and IMDB credits her with 11 acting awards and 6 nominations – good trivia above from WH about the young Linda playing a male. She has nothing new in the pipeline at present but at 76 is still going strong in NCIS: Los Angeles in which in one of the leading roles she has been in a massive 279 episodes from 2009 until the present time.

I have seen her in several episodes of that series but I most liked her in Arnie’ 1990 Kindergarten Cop and the physical contrast between the fierce but kindly diminutive Linda as headmistress Miss Schlowski scolding Big Arnie just added to the fun.

The casting people were apparently initially thinking of putting DeVito in the role of Arnie’s undercover cop Kimble who was pretending to be a teacher [heck ANYBODY could pass as one of those -even yours truly!] but producer Ivan Reltman vetoed the idea arguing that Danny and Linda in the same movie might be overkill.

Actually I watched the film with one of my mates at the time and he tried to wind me up with smart *** comments like “How little she looks beside Arnie and to think she probably would have towered above Alan Ladd!”

    1. Hey Bob. Thanks for the comments on Linda Hunt. I have seen Popeye a few times, but I do not remember her role at all. Thanks for sharing the information on the rest of her career. She is one of the most popular characters in her tv show….which I admit I have never seen. Her net worth is preyyy impressive for sure. I liked her in Kindergarten Coo as well….but my favorite Hunt movie role is in Silverado. Good stuff as always.
