If you do a comment….please ignore the email address and website section.
can WoC figure out how to put all comments together? alright , I know she can do anything. do you 2 think it would help to keep all comments together? I love going back and reading old comments and this might make it difficult having to look 4 places for them..
Good suggestion bob cox…..I moved this comment to this page. In the future I will not activate the “comment box” on the subpages….and only activate the comment box on the “parent” page. I think keeping the comments on the page with the massive UMR table is the best bet.
Interesting subject. Almost unknown in Germany, her breakthrough in Anna Christie never shown in cinemas, because Garbo did a german language version with an entirely german cast. So, no medals for Lupino on this classic actress, since I’ve only seen 3 of her movies (Anna Christie, Minn and Bill and my fav, Dinner at Eight).I knew about her phenomenal success of course, and her scenes in Dinner were really great- especially her encounter with Harlow. Not sure if I like the new format, especially the fact that you can comment on 3 different pages now. Makes reading up on them…
Hey Lupino…..I moved this comment to this page. In the future I will not activate the “comment box” on the subpages….and only activate the comment box on the “parent” page. I have actually seen both versions of Anna Christie. As the international markets keep gaining more box office power…I would not be surprised if more movies do not do what the producers did with Anna Christie. Somebody like The Rock could end up with 8 versions of one movie….each with a different supporting cast that be favorable for each market.
Tally count….Flora 10…..you, me and Steve 8…..so our combined total…..can not even get to within one of her total…I did my part….I brought 4 to the party….lol. I totally agree with your thinking on Dressler an Harlow in Dinner At Eight….classic stuff.
Glad you liked the extended trivia….that actually took the most time to write….but I figured if it was going to have it’s own page….it needed to have some good stuff. Great feedback.
I have seen 10 Marie Dressler movies.
The highest ranked film I have seen is Tugboat Annie.
The lowest ranked film I have seen is The Vagabond Lover.
The highest ranked film I have NOT seen is Tillie’s Punctured Romance.
My favourite Marie Dressler movies are:
Dinner At Eight
Min and Bill
Tugboat Annie
Hollywood Revue
The Girl Said No
I have also seen:
Anna Christie
Chasing Rainbows
Prosperity
Let Us Be Gay
The Vagabond Lover
Hey Flora….wow 10….that is pretty stellar. I agree that Dinner At Eight is here best movie…..granted I have only seen 4 of her movies…..but I enjoyed her performance in that one, much more than I did in her Oscar winning Min and Bill. As for Tillie’s Punctured Romance….it is an interesting silent movie…but seeing Chaplin playing the villain is very off putting. If memories serves correctly….he looks like the beloved tramp….but his actions are very mean spirited. Thanks as always for the feedback.
I’ve only seen one of these – Dinner at Eight. I may have seen Tillie’s Punctured Romance but can’t remember for sure.
Marie Dressler died of cancer in 1934 at the peak of her popularity, she was 65.
Reminds me of Jean Harlow’s even more tragic death in 1937, aged just 26, just when her stardom was rising ever higher.
Vote Up!
Btw Bruce you’ve fluffed the spelling of Tillie’s Punctured Romance on the chart.
Hey Steve….thanks for checking out our latest UMR page. Ms. Dressler might be one of the oldest people we have an UMR page on…..George Arliss was born in April 10th 1868….and she was born in either 1868, 1869 or 1871.
Yep she died in 1934 from cancer. Our interesting fact #20 covers that and the huge power studio heads back then…..as Louis B. Mayer actually knew about her illness before she did….AND he did not tell her.
Only one Dressler movie seen? Actually I am only at 4…..while Flora has an impressive 10. Thanks I fixed the Till/Tillie error…..that error has been sitting out there awhile. Dressler might have been the most unlikely #1 box office star of all-time…..and for two years running. Thanks as always for the quality feedback.
I have seen four of these movies…..including her first Tillie movie with Chaplin…..actually own the DVD on that one. I would say my favorite Dressler movie would have been Dinner At Eight….she has good scenes in that one. My other two seen are Min and Bill and Annie Christie.
Looking forward to Dan’s Bacon Oracle list….I think it has a chance to be one of his shortest ones ever…heck her last movie was 85 years ago.
The new format is growing on me….even spent more time on the trivia page…21 possibly interesting facts this time.
