Want to know the best Mark Ruffalo movies? How about the worst Mark Ruffalo movies? Curious about Mark Ruffalo box office grosses or which Mark Ruffalo movie picked up the most Oscar® nominations? Need to know which Mark Ruffalo movie got the best reviews from critics and audiences and which ones got the worst reviews? Well you have come to the right place, because we have all of that information and much much more.
Mark Ruffalo (1967-) is an American actor, director, and producer. Ruffalo’s IMDb page shows 65 acting credits since 1988. This page will rank Mark Ruffalo movies from Best to Worst in six different sortable columns of information. Television shows, shorts, cameos and movies that were not released in North American theaters were not included in the rankings.
Drivel part of the page: After writing 7 straight classic movie pages….we felt it was time to do a current movie page. I’ve been a fan of Mark Ruffalo ever since he began showing up in movies. Here in Va Beach, Virginia…that was big news because Ruffalo grew up here and went to high school here…..even graduating the same year as I did. If I did not run across Ruffalo on a high school football field, pretty sure I ran across him at one of the Virginia Dual Wrestling events held in this area. Not saying I knew him…just saying we were walking around the same places at the same time oh so many years ago. Ruffalo and the late Margaret Sullavan are the only two Oscar® nominated actors to come out of this area….so I have to pull for him to continue his awesome movie career.

On top of his big screen career Mark Ruffalo has been in 7 television productions between 1989 and 2019; and he has appeared in 3 stage productions – one off-Broadway in 1998 and the other two on Broadway in 2006 and 2017. He has a reported net worth of $30 million and IMDB credits him with 30 acting awards and 119 noms.
I have enjoyed his performances in Zodiac/ In the Cut/Collateral/The Last Castle/Shutter Island. In the pipeline for him at the moment are: 1/FILMING An episode of the TV series “What if?” in which he will contribute the voice[s] of your old pal[s] Dr Bruce Banner/The Hulk.
2/PRE-PRODUCTION STAGE. “Newsflash” a biography drama about Kennedy’s assassination. Chris Pine co-stars as famous broadcaster Walter Cronkite and the production notes state “On November 22, 1963 CBS newsman Walter Cronkite is given the task of reporting on live television about President John F. Kennedy’s assassination in Texas.”
Thanks for the comprehensive page on Mark Ruffalo, Bruce. I first saw Ruffalo 17 years ago in You Can Count on Me, an excellent psychological drama in which I thought he gave an outstanding performance in what must have been his first big role. The previews for that film promoted him as something of a new Brando and he was indeed reminiscent of him in that role. I was somewhat surprised his career did not take off in a bigger way after that, but I guess the modern era was not ready for another Brando. Eventually, he seems to have enjoyed success in more commercial films and showed himself to be quite a versatile actor. Unfortunately most of his major roles have not quite capitalized on his strong dramatic ability (though I confess I have not seen Spotlight)…but I think he has a lot more coming.
Hey Phil
1. Glad you liked our Mark Ruffalo page.
2. Interesting point about Ruffalo and Brando….You Can Count on Me earned Ruffalo his first Oscar nomination.
3. His career was waiting for the Hulk…..the big green guy has made Ruffalo an international star.
4. Generally he seems to be a good guy….so I am happy for his success.
5. Ruffalo is good in Spotlight…..earning the only acting nomination for that Best Picture Oscar winner.
6. I agree, happily there are many more Mark Ruffalo movies coming.
Good stuff.
1 It is indeed surprising that Mark Ruffalo has not become a greater star so far as when he came upon the scene critics whose work I read forecast very big things for him. Ah well we can still hope
2 In my view the great stars are always unique and although there may be certain similarities between them none of them has a complete doppelganger. Within that caveat I have always thought that the nearest thing to a “new Brando” possibly arrived some 42 years ago but because he was black the comparison was never considered by the public or the movie intelligensia . However to me some of Denzel Washington’s performances – Crimson Tide is a particular example – were very eerily Brandoesque [and in Shutter Island DeCaprio an unashamed Brando idolater was highly Brandoesque].
3 Certainly it’s possible that given his intense general interest in coloured people and his taste for coloured female companions Marlon himself wouldn’t have been displeased with as his successor a charismatic African American star with a powerful acting capacity that ran deep and wide.
CORRECTION
Please excuse my incorrect spelling of intelligentsia in my previous post.
ERIN
1 I am a Mark Ruffalo admirer. Mark was singled out for praise by critics when Collateral hit the screens and REALLY big things were predicted for him.
2. However whilst he has produced a fine body of work as an actor earning Oscar and Golden Globe noms along the way he has unfortunately not yet made the big star A list .
3 If we excluded his superhero franchises, which are ensemble flicks and Collateral which was a Cruise move and Shutter Island a DeCaprio picture his box office grosses are not vertiginous.
4 However it might have been different if a cancer battle had not interrupted his career and he does have the talent to reach the A list in the future. It would please me for one if that happened.
5 Meanwhile he’s probably most happy to still be around in a successful well-paying and highly respected career. What do you think?
Hey Bob.
1. I think his career is going pretty well……blockbusters….Oscar nominations…..Best Picture Oscar winning movies….he seems to get bigger every year.
2. I think he is getting closer to A list…though. The struggles of Now You See Me 2 will not help his case.
3. His brain tumor issue has to make all of his recent success all the more impressive.
4. I think he is the type of performer that makes every movie he appears in better
Agreed. Hopefully he’ll truly ‘come into his own’. on the A list soon.
I just watched Spotlight today . It was awesome. I knew he was from a a. Beach. What high school?
I watched The Fundamentals of Caring yesterday. Paul Rudd is in it. Have you seen it?
Soon to be (boy ) grandparents again!
Erin,
Hey Erin….Mark Ruffalo graduated from First Colonial in 1986. I agree Spotlight is very well done and lots of great performances….with Ruffalo’s standing out. I have not see Fundamentals of Caring…..but I really want to…..the trailer looks pretty good. I am so glad they are going to name the new baby Cogerson…..it has a nice ring to it……lol.
Hi
On British T.V., there’s a talk show called the Graham Norton show, where people plug their latest book, song, T.V. show and of course, movie. Mark Ruffalo was on last year promoting his new movie. During the interview he was asked to go on an unicycle, he was fantastic. It’s worth looking up on youtube.
Watching it I thought if they ever do a movie on Barnum, he’s your man. Although I don’t know if he can sing. I see he’s been tipped for Best Supporting Actor for Spotlight.
Hey Chris thanks for the You Tube suggestion…I will go and track that one down. Ruffalo has a great chance for his 3rd Oscar nomination. He has a great record of box office success and critical success. He seems to be a good guy away from the screen as well. Thanks for the comment and the visit.
It’s about time somenoe wrote about this.
Hey Mina….I agree with you 100%…thanks for the visit.
