A few years ago Sunshine625 requested a movie page that ranked all of the Sheen family’s movies.  So I put them all on one huge movie page.  It turned out well but it was probably a little too long….and the Google search gods never liked the page….so the views were pretty bad.  Well now that we are moving to a new website….I figured I give each Sheen/Estevez their very own page.  Their new individual links….Emilio Estevez, Charlie Sheen and Martin Sheen.

Martin Sheen (1940-) was born Ramón Antonio Gerardo Estévez in 1940.  His acting career is now almost 60 years long.  His IMDb page shows over 250 acting credits since 1956. This page will rank  Martin Sheen movies from Best to Worst in six different sortable columns of information. Television shows, shorts, cameos and movies that were not released in theaters were not included in the rankings.

10 Possibly Interesting Facts About the Sheen/Estevez Family

1. Ramon Estevez came up with his screen name Martin Sheen, by using the name of a casting director that gave him his first big break, Robert Martin, with a televangelist archbishop that he admired, Fulton J. Sheen.

2. Three of Martin Sheen’s acting children kept the family name, while Carlos became Charlie Sheen.

3. The Sheen/Estevez acting family has appeared in three Best Picture Oscar® winners…..those movies are 1982’s Gandhi, 1986’s Platoon and 2006’s The Departed. The Sheen/Estevez acting family has also starred in the two greatest Vietnam movies ever: Apocalypse Now and Platoon.

4. The Sheen/Estevez acting family has appeared in three Stephen King novels turned into movies…those movies are 1983’s The Dead Zone, 1984’s Firestarter and 1986’s Maximum Overdrive.

5. Martin Sheen has never been nominated for an Oscar®…but does have one Golden Globe® nomination for Best Supporting Actor in 1968’s The Subject Was Roses. On the TV side he has 7 Golden Globe® nominations with one win and 10 Emmy® nominations with one win. Charlie Sheen also is without an Oscar® nomination. He has starred in three television programs. 7. Emilio Estevez was an original member of the 1980’s Brat Pack. As a child he was friends with Rob Lowe, Sean Penn, and Chris Penn. They would regularly make movies using a movie camera….I bet those would be interesting to see.

8. Not to exclude the other Estevez actors…..Ramon Estevez has 19 acting credits on IMDB….his next project is called Whispers. Renee Estevez has 43 acting credits on IMDB…her last project was The Way which starred Martin and was directed by Emilio.

9. Projects that were turned down or seriously considered for: Martin Sheen was in the running to play Michael in The Godfather, Al Pacino got the part and screen history. Emilio Estevez was signed to play the lead role in Platoon….but a two year delay in production meant Charlie Sheen got the role. Charlie Sheen was considered for the Tom Cruise role in Born on the Fourth of July.

10. The Sheens/Estevezs have worked together in many many projects….some of the most successful collarborations were: Martin and Charlie played father and son in the Oscar® winning movie Wall Street, Charlie and Emilio both appeared in Young Guns which is one of their bigger box office hits. Martin appeared in the Golden Globe® Best Picture nominee Bobby which was directed by Emilio Estevez.

  1. For never having won an oscar, this family sure is successful and prolific. Good on them. This is a great movie page giving all of this information.

    I think the best one is Apocalypse Now, the Ferris Bueller and Breakfast Club will always have a place in my heart.

  2. Wow an epic page Bruce, we get three for the price of one, excellent work!

    Of the three actors here Martin Sheen is by far my favourite, not the biggest fan of Charlie or Emilio, but I like their films.

    Apocalypse Now had to be tops, great film. Charlie’s Platoon is also a big favourite of mine. Stakeout is my favourite Estevez film, hated the sequel. I also have the two Young Guns films on DVD.

    I’m a huge fan of Ferris Bueller’s Day Off but Charlie wasn’t really in it much. Wall Street deserved to be no.2 on his chart.

    I’ve seen 15 of the 41 Martin Sheen films you’ve listed.

    15 of the 23 Emilio Estevez films.

    And 18 of the 30 Charlie Sheen films on there.

    Thats 48 out of 94 total, not bad.

    From the lowest rated films I have The Wraith, The Chase, The Believers and Maximum Overdrive on DVD, he shamefully admitted.

    Enjoyed all the trivia, so much I didn’t know about this family. Martin up for Michael Corleone in Godfather and Charlie as Ron Kovic in Fourth of July, can’t picture them in those roles. 🙂

  3. I am so glad Alecia shared this page! I am thrilled you created this Triple Tribute Treat to three fine actors and men. I like how it turned out also. I am a fan of Charlie, Martin and Emilio. I think I saw every movie on the list except for maybe 3 or 4. That’s awesome!

    To Emilio, I’ve been a fan of yours since The Outsiders when you played Two-Bit. The entire cast went on to become rich and famous. Another awesome memory of you is in the movie A Night At The Roxbury. Even though you didn’t star in the movie, your name did and everytime Will Ferrell told his story about meeting Emilio I would think of you and smile! The Breakfast Club is my favorite movie of yours.

    Charlie, You WERE Two and a Half Men, CBS really messed up when they didnt give in to your demands. I would have! I wished at times you would wear something different besides the traditional apparel your character wore, it wasn’t winning, but you rocked your role. My favorite movie of yours is Platoon. Keep doing what you’re doing because you must be doing something right.

    Martin, You did a fantastic job as father and actor. I just don’t think you could have pulled off Michael in Scarface. That role was created for Al Pacino even though Oliver Stone might not have known that at the time he wrote it. My favorite movie of yours is The American President. Even though I liked all the movies you starred in. The resemblence between you and Charlie is almost like you were twins born years apart. Wow!

  4. Wow, this was such an impressive page about Martin Sheen and his two sons (Emilio Estevez/Charlie Sheen) acting careers. I loved how you broke the lists up showing each together first and then separate. Thank you also for talking about Charlie’s little known role in Ferris Bueller’s Day Off. I loved that movie and even though he didn’t have a very big part, still was a memorable one. Awesome job and have voted and shared too!!

  5. I am so glad Sunshine suggested this hub! I recently read the shared autobiography of Emilio and Martin, it was so great. I love celebrity biographies anyway but I loved the honest approach they took in writing it.
    It’s hard to believe Martin never received so much as an Oscar nod. He has such great range and gives amazing performances. Of his kids, Emilio is most like him in that regard which is why I think he hasn’t done as many films.
