Want to know the best Martin Sheen movies? How about the worst Martin Sheen movies? Curious about Martin Sheen’s box office grosses or which Martin Sheen movie picked up the most Oscar® nominations? Need to know which Martin Sheen movie got the best reviews from critics and audiences and which got the worst? Well you have come to the right place….because we have all of that information.
A few years ago Sunshine625 requested a movie page that ranked all of the Sheen family’s movies. So I put them all on one huge movie page. It turned out well but it was probably a little too long….and the Google search gods never liked the page….so the views were pretty bad. Well now that we are moving to a new website….I figured I give each Sheen/Estevez their very own page. Their new individual links….Emilio Estevez, Charlie Sheen and Martin Sheen.
Martin Sheen (1940-) was born Ramón Antonio Gerardo Estévez in 1940. His acting career is now almost 60 years long. His IMDb page shows over 250 acting credits since 1956. This page will rank Martin Sheen movies from Best to Worst in six different sortable columns of information. Television shows, shorts, cameos and movies that were not released in theaters were not included in the rankings.

10 Possibly Interesting Facts About the Sheen/Estevez Family
1. Ramon Estevez came up with his screen name Martin Sheen, by using the name of a casting director that gave him his first big break, Robert Martin, with a televangelist archbishop that he admired, Fulton J. Sheen.
2. Three of Martin Sheen’s acting children kept the family name, while Carlos became Charlie Sheen.
3. The Sheen/Estevez acting family has appeared in three Best Picture Oscar® winners…..those movies are 1982’s Gandhi, 1986’s Platoon and 2006’s The Departed. The Sheen/Estevez acting family has also starred in the two greatest Vietnam movies ever: Apocalypse Now and Platoon.
4. The Sheen/Estevez acting family has appeared in three Stephen King novels turned into movies…those movies are 1983’s The Dead Zone, 1984’s Firestarter and 1986’s Maximum Overdrive.
5. Martin Sheen has never been nominated for an Oscar®…but does have one Golden Globe® nomination for Best Supporting Actor in 1968’s The Subject Was Roses. On the TV side he has 7 Golden Globe® nominations with one win and 10 Emmy® nominations with one win. Charlie Sheen also is without an Oscar® nomination. He has starred in three television programs. He won a Golden Globe® for Spin City and received 2 Golden Globe® nominations and 4 Emmy® nominations for Two and Half Men. His current show is called Anger Management.
6. Emilio Estevez has moved from acting in movies to directing movies over the last decade. He has directed 5 motion pictures so far. This includes directing his dad in 2010’s The Way which got Martin Sheen excellent reviews.
7. Emilio Estevez was an original member of the 1980’s Brat Pack. As a child he was friends with Rob Lowe, Sean Penn, and Chris Penn. They would regularly make movies using a movie camera….I bet those would be interesting to see.
8. Not to exclude the other Estevez actors…..Ramon Estevez has 19 acting credits on IMDB….his next project is called Whispers. Renee Estevez has 43 acting credits on IMDB…her last project was The Way which starred Martin and was directed by Emilio.
9. Projects that were turned down or seriously considered for: Martin Sheen was in the running to play Michael in The Godfather, Al Pacino got the part and screen history. Emilio Estevez was signed to play the lead role in Platoon….but a two year delay in production meant Charlie Sheen got the role. Charlie Sheen was considered for the Tom Cruise role in Born on the Fourth of July.
10. The Sheens/Estevezs have worked together in many many projects….some of the most successful collarborations were: Martin and Charlie played father and son in the Oscar® winning movie Wall Street, Charlie and Emilio both appeared in Young Guns which is one of their bigger box office hits. Martin appeared in the Golden Globe® Best Picture nominee Bobby which was directed by Emilio Estevez.

Hi Coge…No matter what you decide to write about, it’s always simply great. I have always liked Martin and his sons. Emilio hasn’t seemed to be as big as life, but he’s such a good actor, I don’t understand that. I remember seeing him for the first time in the “Outsiders”…when that movie first came out, my sons and I must have watched it 50 times.
Even though Martin has had quite a film career, my favorite role of his was TV’s President Bartlett……we still watch reruns.
Poor Charley. He took such a stumble. Problem is, it was his own feet he was tripping over. I would love nothing better than to see him make a big comeback and redeem himself completely…..
Thanks for this wonderful and informative movie page, Coge!!

Hi Cogerson: Guess What!!! I had a man out this morning to clean my gutters on my second story house – he did a good job. Took over two hours to get the job done. I was flicking channels to see what was on and guess what I watched while the work was being done – SHADOW CONSPIRACY. You guessed it – I watched it again and enjoyed it. You will have to check it out – perhaps at the library. Not something for the little ones though. LOTS OF ACTION AND VIOLENCE. Thanks for your response.
Hey BERN1960….glad your gutters are clean…..strange that Shadow Conspiracy was on again……but I think the 6 year old and 3 year old can handle the violence and action….lol. Thanks for the update
Wow! This is one comprehensive hub full of movie lists for Charlie, Martin and Emilio. You took me back to watching Hot Shots! with Charlie Sheen and The Mighty Ducks with Emilio Estevez, and I didn’t know that Martin Sheen’s real name was Ramon Estevez! He’s been in so many movies! Thanks for sharing this, it was terrific! Voted up – interesting – awesome 🙂
Hey MelChi….thanks for stopping by and leaving such a wonderful compliment…that gets me motivated to write another hub. Now I just need a subject…lol. I appreciate the votes up and I am glad I could help clarify a few things on Martin Sheen.
Hi Bruce; While I’m not really a huge fan of either of the brothers, the family does make interesting reading. I enjoyed dad Martin more (“Apocalypse Now” and “the West Wing”)
Great information as usual,
Rob
Hey Rob….thanks for stopping by….I agree with you about Martin….he seems to have the best acting ability of the three….and Apocalypse Now and West Wing are excellent. I appreciate the kind words in the comment…they are greatly appreciated.
Hello Cogerson, You know, in spite of the meltdown Charlie had that was so publicized, I can’t help but love most of his movies and even the TV shows he’s been in. He is the politically incorrect, modern day Archie Bunker in this world of PC zealots who’ve turned our words into the fear factor. His Dad is also a personal favorite for his role in the “Final Conflict” which we used to watch again and again because of the paradox and subject matter of time travel. I loved Emilio in Breakfast Club, Stakeout and Mighty Ducks. Let’s face it. They each exude a whopping bunch of charisma.
Hey PegCole17…thanks for visiting my latest hub. I agree with you 100%….they might not have made the best movies but they are entertaining. Whether you like Charlie Sheen or not…..you have to give him credit for his comedic skills. As for Martin….I really liked The Final Countdown as well…..and Sheen is great as the one person who realizes that changing history might not be a good idea.
