As a kid I remember always hearing about which comic book company was the best.   Many of my friends were in the DC comic camp. Batman, Superman, Flash, Green Lantern and of course the classic Saturday morning cartoon, Justice League of America (1973-1986), were the strengths of their argument. My favorite superhero was Spider-Man, who was and still is one of Marvel comics most popular superheroes….so that put me in the less crowded camp of Marvel. As an adult the same argument seems to be still being asked…only now it is which comic company is bringing the best superhero movies to the big screen.

  1. Comic book movies have become such a huge business, it’s amazing. Batman alone is huge, and then there was the phenomenal success of the The Avengers. I am one of the few people who still hasn’t seen it, but now that it just came out on blu ray I am planning to check it out. Great hub, tons of facts and figures, must have been a lot of work.

    1. Hey nanderson500 ….I was wondering who the 14 people were that have not seen The Avengers….that just leaves 13 more to find…lol. I think you will really enjoy….my wife loved it and she had not seen any of the other movies in the series. Glad you liked all the stats and facts and I appreciate the votes and the share.

  2. Another fascinating page Bruce, packed with facts and figures. I lurve it!

So which came out on top Marvel or DC?

Box office and Oscar noms it looks like DC has the winning hand.

But Marvel win on the Moviescore and Critics ratings!

Of the 47 films you’ve listed the only one I haven’t seen is the very last one – Steel, what is that?

Its interesting to look at the adjusted box office table, Superman the Movie is no.2 higher than The Dark Knight, woohoo! The Avengers is numero uno, really enjoyed that film in 2D and 3D.

My faves are probably still Superman the Movie and Tim Burtons two Batman films, of the recent bunch I liked Spider-Man 2, Iron Man, The Avengers and Dark Knight Rises.

An enjoyable page amigo keep em coming!

    1. Hey Steve….thanks for stopping by and commenting. I think Marvel and DC are tied currently…..with DC winning from 1978 to 2002…..but the last ten years have to go to Marvel….so in a boxing match…they would be tied in points but Marvel has DC on the ropes. On average 3 Marvel movies come out each year while DC offers up one each year. I am thinking Man of Steel will not do as well as Iron Man 3….but better than Thor 2 and X-Men 15?

I have seen 42 of the 47….I am missing a few Blades, Steel, Catwoman and Punisher 2…..Steel was the classic Shaq(USA basketball star) playing a DC superhero with Judd Nelson as the villian….I think after 15 years of release on about 86 people have actually seen the movie…lol.

As for your favorites they rated pretty high according to the movie score formula….Superman at 5th…the Burton Batmans at 9th and 12th, Iron Man 2nd, The Avengers 4th….and Dark Knight Rises at 6th….but I think if it gets a Best Picture nom….it will move to the top of the charts.

  3. Bruce, as always, so informative and well done. I have gotten love and look forward to your movie lists. This one is for all the superhero lovers, like my husband and his love of Batman) and my brother (a Superman fanatic). I am forwarding to both of them to read too

    1. Hey Janine Huldie…..thanks for checking out my DC/Marvel movie hub and double and triple thanks for forwarding my page to some Batman and Superman fans and for the votes….all your efforts are greatly appreciated.

  4. Well, I found this page interesting and voted UP. I always enjoyed Christopher Reeve as Superman and it was so tragic that he had that terrible accident. I liked the last Superman movie too. Another great Movie Page. You know that you and your brother still have comic books here – RIGHT!!! Who knows if they are worth anything. KEEP UP THE GREAT WORK BRUCE.

    1. Hey BERN1960…..thanks for checking out my latest and greatest hub…..I think Christopher Reeve made an awesome Superman….and I agree it was very tragic what happened to him in real life. To bad those comics are not in better shape…some of them are closing in on 50 years old. Thanks for the very nice words in your comment.

  5. I believe you left out quite possibly the worst superhero movie ever and that would be the 1990 version of Captain America. Poorly acted with a horrible plot. Not even fun to watch for a laugh.

    1. Thanks for stopping by First Colony. The Captain America version of 1990 never got released…..it went straight to the wonderful world of home entertainment…..so it was not included in the tables…I have not seen it….but from what I have read before and what I read in your comment….it would probably give Steel a run for it’s money for worst superhero movie. Thanks for the compliment

        1. Thanks for the return back First Colony….when doing the research on the hub…it really looked like Marvel struggled getting these movies to the theater….Captain America was a disaster….and there was a Fantastic Four that had similar issues as well…..and when they finally got one of them to open….it was Howard the Duck…..not a good start for their movie program.
