As a kid I remember always hearing about which comic book company was the best.   Many of my friends were in the DC comic camp. Batman, Superman, Flash, Green Lantern and of course the classic Saturday morning cartoon, Justice League of America (1973-1986), were the strengths of their argument. My favorite superhero was Spider-Man, who was and still is one of Marvel comics most popular superheroes….so that put me in the less crowded camp of Marvel. As an adult the same argument seems to be still being asked…only now it is which comic company is bringing the best superhero movies to the big screen.

  1. I guess when it comes to choosing between DC and Marvel… I don’t really argue for either side. I like them both and it really depends on the movie. I remember Superman from when I was a kid. Although I will admit that rendition actually gave me nightmares. I can’t even remember why because after watching them now… they just don’t seem as scary. Ahhh – the workings of a small child’s mind. My husband is the superhero person. He is a big fan of all things Batman – so naturally I go after those. I personally really love the X-Men. I don’t really know the background so I just enjoy it as a good movie. Then again, I also like Spiderman and Iron Man…. Truth be told – if we were sitting face to face and you asked me to tell you which one was Marvel and which one was DC – I probably couldn’t decipher the two. I just like super hero movies. Now – if only they would bring a new Wonder Women to the scene! 🙂

    1. Hey barbergirl28…..thanks for stopping by…… I think the DC/Marvel argument is pretty much only done by diehard comic book fans….so I think you not knowing the difference in Marvel/DC universes puts you in the majority of people….whenever I talk about this subject with my wife….I realize very quickly that she is not really paying attention….just nodding her head and saying…”Interesting….let’s talk about something else”….lol.

I imagine Lex Luther to a small child could induce some bad dreams….I like your husband am in the Batman fan club. Thanks for the comment

      1. @barbergirl28, they are working on it…in fact two of the writers for the Green Lantern movie have been commissioned by DC/Warner to pen a Wonder Woman script. I too am hoping they get Wonder Woman to the big screen. Who do you think should play the iconic character?

        1. Hey rabbit75….thanks for the Wonder Woman update…..it will be interesting to see if they can get this movie to the theaters….Wonder Woman has a graveyard of projects that have failed to reach the theaters….hopefully this time the job will get done.

  2. Wow, this is very good and your research is very well done. My vote is with the Avengers. It pulls in all the best of the superheros. I believe comic books are a popular item today and making movies to support interest is Hollywood’s ploy, but its one that we enjoy.

    1. Hey teaches12345….I agree with you….The Avengers was a very good movie and a movie that was fun to watch. The Dark Knight Rises is also a very good movie….but certainly NOT a fun movie to watch. I think with the outstanding box office history of superhero movies…..we will be seeing 3 or 4 superhero movies a year for the next 10 years or so. Thanks for the visit

  3. This was a really ambitious project, Coge, reviewing and rating all these action movies. Thanks for your time and effort – especially since I am a fan of action movies and agree with most of your best picks. I don’t think I have ever seen an action film I didn’t enjoy but I did enjoy Ironman (#1) the most. And the Dark Knight next.

    1. Hey drbj…..thanks for the visit and the comment. Glad to see your two favorites ranked as the Top two on my movie score formula….The Dark Knight is one of my favorites as well….I think the fact that The Dark Knight was ignored by the Academy…they will give The Dark Knight Rises a Best Picture Oscar nomination to make up for that injustice. We will find out in a few months…Iron Man 3 will be huge next May.

  4. Fantastic Page.

I knew that DC had more history behind it than Marvel and that Marvels first release was Howard the duck, how awful.

    1. Hey Anthony Binks….thanks for the visit. It is hard to believe but Marvel movies got off to a horrible start….in the 1990s they made Captain America and the Fantastic Four …but they were so bad they got no release and disappeared forever….and when they finally got a movie to release it was Howard the Duck….they have obviously figured out there mistakes. Thanks for the comment.

  5. Cogerson, this is such an AWESOME page. Enjoyed all of this…. one question… do you think The Dark Knight Rises will get any nominations (obviously it won’t have acting Noms like Ledger got…. but it could get sound/visual/mixing/editing type of nominations maybe)… and if so how will that affect it’s score?

    Great page!

    1. Hey jmartin1344 ….I appreciate you stopping by and commenting. I think when the award season comes around both The Avengers and The Dark Knight Rises will in fact get some nominations. I think The Avengers will get some tech nominations and that will move it to 3rd place on the charts…..meanwhile I know Dark Knight Rises will get some Oscar love….which will probably include a Best Picture nomination which will move it to the top spot….but only time will tell.
