Want to know the best Matthew McConaughey movies? How about the worst Matthew McConaughey movies? Curious about Matthew McConaughey’s box office grosses or which Matthew McConaughey movie picked up the most Oscar® nominations? Need to know which Matthew McConaughey movie got the best reviews from critics and audiences? Well you have come to the right place …. because we have all of that information.
As I was working on my latest page, Best Movies of 1946 and I got into a conversation about my latest page subject with one of my children (my 21 year old daughter). When I told her my latest subject, I could tell she had no interest what so ever in movies made 48 years before she was born. So figuring she has to represent a decent percentage of my readers, I figured I would publish a current page to go with my 1946 page. So I grabbed my handy dandy movie notebook and checked out some of my requests over the last 9 months. So the winner from the requests was Mr. Matthew McConaughey.

Happy Birthday Mathew
1/I’ve mentioned before that Matthew is a close friend of Matt Damon and it used to be [and maybe still is] that when Damon appeared on TV chat shows he would crack a joke about his pal Matthew’s preference for roles that allowed him to take off his shirt. No matter how often Damon told those jokes audiences would go into stitches laughing at them and that encouraged me to keep repeating my Joel Hirschhorn jokes which too are of course riotous!
2/On top of his spectacular film career Matthew has been in 8 television productions [1992-2015] and has made 3 musical videos [1992-2012].
3/IMDB credits him with 49 acting awards and 82 noms; and his net worth is reported as $120 million. The net worth of some of his contemporaries is Leo DiCaprio $260 million; Sandra Bullock; $200 million; Matthew’s True Detective buddy Woody Harrelson $65 million; and Anne Hathaway $50 million. Among the older generations Matthew’s Interstellar co-star Sir Maurice Micklewhite is said to have a net worth of $75 million – excellent for an aged Brit thespian.
4/ My personal fave roles of Matthew’s are: Lone Star/Lincoln Lawyer/Wolf of Wall Street/ and especially A Time to Kill and the 1st series of TV’s True Detective co-starring Woody. The pair made a great team in my view. Unfortunately I have not been able to work up an interest in Dallas Buyers’ Club despite Matthew’s Oscar winning performance there.
5/Matthew has currently one listed project in the pipeline: Sing 2 which is filming at present and in which he/Scarlett Johansson/ Reese Witherspoon reprise their Sing One voice roles. It is [maybe over-] confidently scheduled for release on 21 Dec 2021!

Hi Bob, thanks for reviewing my Matthew McConaughey video, the generous rating, info and trivia are much appreciated.
Happy you liked the picture gallery.
Sorry I missed Lone Star in the line up, and it would have been nice to include True Detective, which I enjoyed, but it is a mini-series rather than TV movie.
It’s amazing the net worth of some of these actors. I’d wager back in classic Hollywood only a handful of the golden greats were super wealthy. Chaplin, Bob Hope and Bing Crosby come to mind.
Only one of McConaughey’s films scored 10 out of 10 from my sources – The Wolf of Wall Street. Four scored 9 – Mud, Dallas Buyers Club, A Time to Kill and Interstellar.
Interstellar tops both IMDB and Rotten Tomatoes charts, my chart too, it’s 8th on Bruce’s critics chart and he’s a huge Christopher Nolan fan, tsk tsk. 😉
Matthew on filming Angels in the Outfield (1994) – “I was getting $48,500 just to act and play baseball. I thought I was rolling in dough.”
“There were heaps of weird creatures around in Queensland when we were shooting Fool’s Gold (2008). I had an 8 foot python in the coconut tree in my backyard and a 6 foot python in my shed. When I returned after three weeks, they’d gone. It’s one thing having pythons in your garden and knowing they’re there; it’s a lot more unsettling knowing they’re somewhere about but you don’t know where. So I was going through every closet and checking under the bed. Every time I took a bath I got nervous. I’d be washing my hair with my eyes closed and be thinking “What am I not seeing right now?”. It’s amazing how quickly you shower when you think there might be a python in your room.”
HI STEVE:
Thanks for the feedback. Strange story about the pythons.
I agree with you about the lavish net worths of the actors I find it ridiculous that thespians who couldnt open a tin of beans let alone a movie at the box office have such enormous sums chucked at them.
Back in the heyday of the classic era the studio moguls kept the lolly well under lock and key with as you say only the biggies like Gable/Tracy/Crawford etc getting hefty pay cheques.
That’s not an expression of envy on my part because I feel that if a star pulls his/her weight at the box office he/she is entitled to the big bucks and unlike Joel I would never attack any one of such stars for their wealth. As you know I don’t think much of Sly/Jace as ACTORS: but via their box office contributions they have earned their wealth.
Keep safe.
Just added Steve’s latest video to this page. Our thoughts found on his channel found below.
“Matthew McConaughey gets a video…good selection. Let’s see…I have seen 33 of the 35 movies. Only missing #23 The Newton Boys and #17 Boys on the Side. Overall I have seen 42 of his 48 movies. Favorites include #6 The Gentlemen…granted it is a very new movie…but I want to see it again. #10 Tropic Thunder….he filled in so nicely for Owen Wilson in that one. #24 Reign of Fire…what a great and different role for him. #28 The Dark Tower….he played a good bad guy. I like lots of others….but those would be my Top 4. Seems like he is a good guy away from the screen as well. Voted up and shared.”
Hi Bruce, you’ve seen a lot more modern movies than I have.
Your tally an excellent 33 out of 35, I’ve seen 18. My favorites include – The Wolf of Wall Street, Contact, Tropic Thunder, The Gentlemen, Reign of Fire, A Time to Kill and Interstellar.
Thanks again for the the comment, vote and share, always appreciated.
1 I was pleased to see Matthew winning the Oscar for Dallas Buyers Club as I think he is one of the finest actors in motion pictures – and television – today. My favourite McConaughey movie was his breakthrough one A Time to Kill back in 1996 though I thought that in a supporting role in The Wolf of Wall Street he dominated the scenes that he was in. His paring with Woody Harrelson in the TV series True Detective was in my opinion spellbinding. Also very entertaining was Matthew’s The Lincoln Lawyer though for me the one fly in the ointment was McConaughey’s Killer Joe which I thought was one of the most unpleasant movies that I’ve seen for some time though as usual his acting in it was brilliant.
2 In 2005 Matthew was named The Sexiest Man Alive by People magazine and I find that rather ironic because he is friends with Matt Damon and there was ongoing playful banter between the pair with Matt accusing Matthew of rarely accepting a role that did not permit him to take off his shirt and display his bare chest and I’ve heard it said that Matt also took off his own shirt on TV to do Matthew McConaughey impersonations! Anyway this update of the stats for a fine actor’s career is very much appreciated
Hey Bob.
1. MM really moved the needle on his career…I would say his career on the romantic comedy side was quickly coming to an end….his turns in big critical hits has given him a huge career boost.
2. I remember when he first came out with A Time To Kill….the comparisons to Newman were everywhere….well…for along time it seemed silly to compare him to Newman….well…now I think he is getting closer to a Newman like career.
3. Granted his 2016 had two flops….a modest success and a big success..but not thinking many are seeing Sing because of MM.
4. Good stuff about Damon and MM….seems Damon has a nice sense of humor….plus I have his autograph….so count me as a fan of both of them.
Thanks for checking out this updated page.
Great stuff that you got Matt Damon’s autograph. That he takes the time for that reinforces my view that he is a pretty nice guy.
Hey Bob….I agree 100%.
