Matthew McConaughey Movies

Want to know the best Matthew McConaughey movies?  How about the worst Matthew McConaughey movies?  Curious about Matthew McConaughey’s box office grosses or which Matthew McConaughey movie picked up the most Oscar® nominations? Need to know which Matthew McConaughey movie got the best reviews from critics and audiences? Well you have come to the right place …. because we have all of that information.

As I was working on my latest page, Best Movies of 1946 and I got into a conversation about my latest page subject with one of my children (my 21 year old daughter). When I told her my latest subject, I could tell she had no interest what so ever in movies made 48 years before she was born. So figuring she has to represent a decent percentage of my readers, I figured I would publish a current page to go with my 1946 page. So I grabbed my handy dandy movie notebook and checked out some of my requests over the last 9 months. So the winner from the requests was Mr. Matthew McConaughey.

Matthew McConaughey (1969-) is an American actor who began his acting career in 1991. After appearing in supporting roles in movies like 1993’s Dazed and Confused, 1994’s Angels in the Outfield and 1996’s Lone Star, he got his first big break by getting the lead role in 1996’s A Time To Kill. Since the success of A Time To Kill, McConaughey has become one of the more recognizable leading men working in movies today. He has appeared in romantic comedies, action films, Oscar® winning dramas and even some horror films.   Our personal Top 3 McConaughey movies are Reign of Fire (2002), We Are Marshall (2006) and Interstellar (2014).

  1. just a thought. Even before I ever saw I single movie I knew who Clark Gable was.A man who was born the same day I was 75 years earlier and who died 16 years before I was born. People are spending FAR too much time talking about how old actors are. I mean, the New Kids on the Block were popular when I was a teenager. They were harmless and very popular-the first concert I attended-, but I wouldn’t dream of suggesting my generation of teen idols matches the musical *quality* of the British Invasion of the 60s – music that has indeed remained popular. If mike wants to point out that he thinks Mathew M. is a good lucker whose acting skills are light entertainment only while Paul Newman is a great actor, let him. Quite frankly, a lot of those classic actors want to be remembered for their charitable work, NOT their acting. Newman would much rather be remembered for all the work he did for charity. and he is remembered for charity. Not so William Holden, who wanted the first thing people to think of him being his animal santuary, not his acting. that is not the case.

Actors popular when I was a teenager–Charlie Sheen (!) Christian Slater (who?), Patrick swayze (dead) and Tom Cruise (still popular). The Brat Pack group were huge when I was a teenager. I wouldn’t call most of them great actors, although I loved them at the time, and I am not offended when people roll their eyes when I say I was a huge fan of New Kids On The block.

Please lets not make these pages of Cogerson’s a one side vs. the other like the political hubs. Never mind calling people OLD who are likely either your own age or younger because they like quality regardless of the age-I watch Oscar films that come out now, but most of the films that come out now before September are not good. I am getting a bit frustrated by this thread. What is wrong with being old anyway?

I have a suggestion for people who don’t like hubs about people who are dead, even if if they were old enough to have seen the films when they were released.

DO NOT READ THESE PAGES. And leave those of us who do read them alone.

rant finished. and no, I am tired. And I will not be following this page anymore, even though it is likely my favourite movie year after 1939.

    1. Hey Flora…sorry that this thread has gotten you so upset. I think most people make that decision about which pages to read and which ones to avoid. So I generally try and rotate between classic actors and current actors…I think it is safe that you and I have the movie bug so we are interested in lots of information about movies…especially from the history side of the movie industry.

I think from the HubPages side of things….it has surprisingly turned out that my classic hubs(notice I am not saying dead people) are more popular than my current actors….Looking at my Top PAges.

#1 Bruce Willis….he is my first page…and I really pushed that page

      #2 James Stewart…classic actor

#3 Christian Bale….but only ranks 47th when looking at last 30 days

#4 Michael Caine….not sure where he falls in a classification

      #5 Johnny Depp….current actor

      #6 Marilyn Monroe…classic actress

      #7 Katharine Hepburn…classic actress

      #8 John Wayne….classic actor

      #9 Cary Grant….classic actor

      #10 Sean Connery..

      #11 Alfred Hitchcock…classic actor

      #12 Doris Day….classic actress

      #13 Audrey Hepburn…classic actress

      #14 Gregory Peck…classic actor

#15 Jack Nicholson…not classic but not too current

So looking at the Top 15 most came form the classic era some I have decided to concentrate more on those pages…while not forgetting about the current ones.

  2. Mckbirdks, my daughters are in their 20’s and if it wasn’t for Paul Newman’s salad dressing they would have no idea who he is. They’ve never seen his movies but they like his food line. They are aware of Matthew McConaughey as is my 5 year old granddaughter. Celebrities that are remembered change with each generation. Just my opinion :))

    1. Hey Sunshine625…yep Fool’s Gold is a good movie to watch as the weather turns cold….I agree that the younger generation has no idea who Paul Newman is….my older son’s only know him as the old guy from the Bruce Willis movie Nobody’s Fool….which is in fact really a Paul Newman movie. You make a good point about actors that are remembered change with each generation….this generation might think in 20 years that Daniel Radcliffe and Robert Pattinson were the greatest actors ever…as always thanks for your comments.

  3. Hello a Matthew McConaughey page? I am having trouble here – he is light entertainment. Paul Newman’s name will be known fifty years from now, is all I can say about that.

    1. Hey mckbirdbks…..when I looked at my request notebook…Mr. McConaughey had three requests over the last few months…..so he might be light entertainment….but he is a very popular light entertainment. As for his comparison to Paul Newman…I think the numbers prove that he is not even close…but Newman is one of the greatest actors ever…so the bar was set very high….thanks for the comments and thanks for stopping by….and congrats again on your outstanding interview in this week’s newsletter.

  4. You have picked a winner for this page. I love Matthew he is very sexy and seems so nice. I think I have seen almost all of these movies plus some I do not see on the main list. Voted way up. And all this talk about him taking off his shirt makes me want to go and watch Fool’s Gold again.

    1. Hey KellyE…great minds thinking alike…I just mentioned in my previous comment about all the time he does not wear a shirt in Fool’s Gold…and then you mention the same thing. I am glad you liked my M.M. movie page so much….thanks for stopping by and commenting.

  5. I am a fan of McConaughey. I love We Are Marshall. I admittedly watch some of the “chick flicks” quite often, so I did like How To Lose A Guy In Ten Days, but I’m a huge Kate Hudson fan. I also liked Two For The Money with Pacino. Of course, Dazed and Confused is a classic so you can’t go wrong with that movie.

    1. Hey Bigpayno…I agree with you….M.M. has been very good in his two football movies…and it is not unbearable when my wife makes me watch some of his chick flicks….I like both Hudson movies….not a huge fan of The Wedding Planner though….I just saw Dazed and Confused….he has a great part in that movie….a very cool guy….which I think he is in real life…thanks for the comments.
