Drivel Part Of The Page: The other day I was reading the tributes to the late Garry Marshall who passed away on Tuesday. One of the condolence celebrity tweets I read was from Mel Brooks. That got me to think about three things: (1) Wow…..Mel Brooks is on Twitter! (2) I hope when I am 90 I am on top of the latest technological advancements like he is and (3) I should do a UMR page on Mel Brooks. So I decided to listen to myself….and here is a Mel Brooks UMR page.

Thanks for sharing that information.
Not my favorite but I still enjoyed the page. I have seen one of his movies. The Producers. Surprised his wife Anne Bancroft has been gone so long. Thanks for the nice page.
BERN1960 BERN1960….a tally of 1 is not going to get you far….lol. Thanks for sharing it….and thanks for stopping by…especially since you are not a huge fan.
Hi
I think Young Frankenstein was his finest hour. I’ve seen it many times and it stands up really well. But to be honest the rest of his movies range from okay to pretty dire. The Producers just never did it for me, but I liked Blazing Sandals. It’s actually quite funny until near the end, when it becomes all modern, it died out for me then.
I remember when History of the World Part 1 came out in the U.K. in the early 80’s, it got great hype but I thought it was okay. But I was really surprised that I enjoyed To Be or Not To Be, considering the original is so good. Although probably Ann Bancroft played a big part in that.
I quite like the idea of him and Carl Reiner sitting watching movies each night and sharing stories. There’s no doubt he’s a very talented man and great to hear he’s going strong.
Hey Chris.
1. I think you and many people agree that Young Frankenstein is his greatest film.
2. I think any movie that can get a great comic performance out of Gene Hackman….has to be considered great. Love Hackman….but when I think about his career….comedy is not my 1st, 2nd, 3rd….thought.
3. I respect The Producers….but I do not think it has aged very well….his originally version would probably be boycotted if it was released today….as many of the characters would break all the p.c. rules we live in today.
4. I have seen History of the World….but I barely remember it….and I certainly do not remember any great scenes.
5. I saw his version of To Be Or Not To Be on cable in the 1980s…when I got older I was shocked when I realized it was remake….though Mel Brooks and Jack Benny are both perfect for the lead role.
6. Me too….I wonder what kinds of movies they watch….he tweets…it would be cool if tweeted what they watched…..but then again 90 year olds probably do not have the same motivation as teenagers to document all parts of their lives….lol.
