Michael Caine Movies

Want to know the best Michael Caine movies?  How about the worst Michael Caine movies?  Curious about Michael Caine box office grosses or which Michael Caine movie picked up the most Oscar® nominations? Need to know which Michael Caine movie got the best reviews from critics and audiences? Well you have come to the right place….because we have all of that information.

My father introduced me to Michael Caine (1933-) in the movie The Man Who Would Be King. Since that 1975 movie I have followed his career very closely. I am probably one of the few people on Earth who not only saw The Swarm at the theater but also Beyond the Poseidon Adventure  at the theater. After years of struggling as an actor, in the mid 1960s he finally became a star with the British films Zulu, Alfie, and Ipcress Files.  Since then he has starred in roughly 90 movies.  Over the years Caine has received 6 Oscar® nominations and 2 Oscar® wins.  Not only is he still popular after a 60 plus year career but he is still appearing in some the biggest movies out there (Inception, Batman trilogy). Currently he is director Christopher Nolan’s good luck charm.  Caine has appeared in the last 7 Nolan films (he has an uncredited voice role in 2017’s Dunkirk).

His IMDb page shows over 170 acting credits since 1956.  In the table below, Ultimate Movie Rankings ranks his movies in 6 different sortable columns.  Television roles, cameos, shorts and straight to DVD movies were not included in the rankings.

  1. HI STEVE: Thanks for your response.

When we get involved in a run of exchanges on one subject they are usually posted over a number of stages and days with other comments by fellow viewers on different matters coming in-between.

Thus it is not until you can see at a single glance ALL the posts arranged in a continuous flow that you realise how much correspondence has accumulated on the one topic – especially with guys like WH persisting in arguing that a black crow is white. Now if John had still been joining in these debates maybe WH would have to open up a 2nd page for Sir Maurice!

Your own contribution was certainly helpful and in the absence of someone actually watching the movie and reporting back to us your information does bring us nearer the potential truth.

“I was working as a tea boy for the producer Jay Lewis, who was making Morning Departure with John Mills. I’d never been to a film studio before and one day he took me with him to Pinewood.” – Sir Maurice. Good stuff Steve. At least we now know that Sir M did have some connection with the production; and even if he didn’t actually appear on the screen I’m going to campaign for him to be credited with its gross.

  2. Nice work moving all these posts over here Bob. I never expected it to be this many, nearly 5 pages worth on this subject!

It’s easier to find now, yesterday when I was planning to post a quote from Caine’s book I couldn’t remember where the conversation started. I assumed it was Caine’s page, than I tried John Mills who didn’t have a page, finally I thought of Attenborough and there it was. If I come across any more info in books or the net I’ll post it here. Cheers.

  3. In the light of my 3rd para in Part One the domino effect of Sir M not being in MD is when you think of it considerable; one is reminded of “the girl who danced with the man who danced with the girl who danced with the Prince of Wales”.

    Other points:

1/The Work Horse is good at pointing out that Wiki and IMDB make mistakes: how come he never “outs” any mistakes by Mr Perfect? – and I am sure that you know who HE is.

2/I think it’s time for people to stop calling the film Operation Disaster -what an awfully mundane title anyway! – as MD is a British film; and I think it is time for others to start showing some respect to Her Majesty the Queen. After all The Work Horse has given President Trump his due on this site.

3/A patriotic Mancunian being seduced into stooping to use American titles – really! – and there’s me thinking that with the passage of Brexit WE had “taken back control”.

  4. HI STEVE:

It is nice of you to send WH that copy. Though he should “Beware of Greeks bearing gifts.” Out of kindness HE sent ME two books but one of them has been giving me nightmares ever since. You will see that I have acted on your suggestion and copied all the Sir Maurice/Morning D exchanges to HIS own page,

I quoted to WH multiple sources that credit Sir M with Morning Departure. If they are ALL wrong then it shakes the faith of a humble viewer like me who considerably depends of the wisdom of site moderators for his additional/new information about movies and their stars.

Will my faith in the Cogerson site too be destroyed as HE quotes the like of Wiki/IMDB regularly; and -horror of horrors! – does that in turn mean that I may have been giving my amateur Film Buffs group false information all this time as I use Cogerson as MY Bible when it’s my turn to give the group talks and lectures? Certainly if Sir M in not in Morning Departure for me it will be “Never glad confident morning again” [no pun intended] as far as ALL sites are converned.

PS: I see that as a result of these Micklewhite/Morning Departure exchanges the Sir Maurice comments have now cross a “Cogerson magical 200 barrier”

Hey Bob….but buying DVDs is fun…and even funnier when they prove you correct…lol.
