Michael Caine Movies

Want to know the best Michael Caine movies?  How about the worst Michael Caine movies?  Curious about Michael Caine box office grosses or which Michael Caine movie picked up the most Oscar® nominations? Need to know which Michael Caine movie got the best reviews from critics and audiences? Well you have come to the right place….because we have all of that information.

My father introduced me to Michael Caine (1933-) in the movie The Man Who Would Be King. Since that 1975 movie I have followed his career very closely. I am probably one of the few people on Earth who not only saw The Swarm at the theater but also Beyond the Poseidon Adventure  at the theater. After years of struggling as an actor, in the mid 1960s he finally became a star with the British films Zulu, Alfie, and Ipcress Files.  Since then he has starred in roughly 90 movies.  Over the years Caine has received 6 Oscar® nominations and 2 Oscar® wins.  Not only is he still popular after a 60 plus year career but he is still appearing in some the biggest movies out there (Inception, Batman trilogy). Currently he is director Christopher Nolan’s good luck charm.  Caine has appeared in the last 7 Nolan films (he has an uncredited voice role in 2017’s Dunkirk).

His IMDb page shows over 170 acting credits since 1956.  In the table below, Ultimate Movie Rankings ranks his movies in 6 different sortable columns.  Television roles, cameos, shorts and straight to DVD movies were not included in the rankings.

  1. I recently saw the film “Without a Clue”, and despite liking Michael Caine, and Ben Kingsley it was a pretty weak film with a great original idea. Love Michael Caine, he’s in some of my favorite films and once again, great movie page keep up the great work. Voted Up, Useful, Awesome, Beautiful, Funny, and Interesting.

    1. Hey Carl….I agree with you about Without a Clue….I did not like it years ago…and then I rewatched it…thinking I would like it better this time….but no…it is still bad on a second viewing. Thanks for the comments, the visit and the votes up.

  2. Michael Caine is so awesome. I’ve read his biography and he seems to be a genuine, down to earth actor. And what I’ve seen him in, I’ve thoroughly enjoy. Great job Cogerson!

    1. Hey Alecia….he is one of my favorites as well….I think you would enjoy many of his you tube interviews over the years…as he is a master storyteller…and after 60 years of making movies he has some great stories to spin. Thanks for checking out my updated Caine movie page.

  3. As a singer on the soundtrack, Astaire has made many more movies than in which he appeared as an actor. I haven’t seen all of his late career movies or television career, but unless I am very much mistaken, if there are any films of his from the studio system era I’ve missed it is only because I can’t find it. In fact, with the exception of *one* Astaire/Rodgers film, I have seen every big screen musical he ever made, no matter how small the part or what year it was released.

    1. Hey Flora…the Fred page is now up….having just spent the last few days with Fred and I can agree with you about his singing career. I am still at one…so I know I will be in last place…lol. But On the Beach is now high on my list of movies to watch.

  4. I am going over how many of his films I’ve seen…already discussed my favourites:

Top ten box office: I have seen 6 of these, numbers 5,6,7,8,9, and 10

Top ten critics: I have only seen 4 of these: 2,5,8, and 10

    Top 10 movie score: I have seen 4: 4, 6, 7 and 10

    Overall:

    1. Hey Flora 19 is not too bad….I might be on the top of this tally count…but my next new page(Fred Astaire) I have a grand total of 1 movie that I have seen….so I feel confident I will be in last place when that one comes out. I always thought Michael Caine and my dad looked very much alike….which is one reason I have seen so many of his movies. Thanks as always for stopping by.

  5. Wow you’re a much bigger fan of Michael Caine than I am Cogerson, kind of ironic considering I’m English.

I’ve seen 42 of the 80 films you’ve listed. You’ve seen an astounding 68 of his films!

I have missed a lot of his recent work, I haven’t seen Cider House Rules, The Quiet American or Little Voice.

I am a fan of his 60’s and 70’s work particularly Sleuth, Zulu, Get Carter, Man Who Would be King, Italian Job and the Harry Palmer films.

I did enjoy his recent ‘Death Wish in South London’ movie Harry Brown.

Dark Knight his only no.1 film of the year? hmmm not a big fan of the Chris Nolan Batman films I much prefer the more gothic Tim Burton films. But Caine is good in them, it is a little sad seeing him play a butler but he is getting on a bit.

Okay I’ve seen 9 of the top 10 box office and all 10 on the critics chart.

    1. I knew I had seen many Michael Caine movies, no idea the number was so high…usually when I get down to the bottom of these lists there are many movies I have not seen…not so for Mr. Caine as I have seen movies #67 to #80.

Caine is almost 80 and he is still going strong….he has 4 movies in production currently…so I think he has a chance to get another Oscar nomination.

Did you know he and Jack Nicholson are the only people to get Oscar nominations in 5 straight decades. 1960’s Alfie, 1970s Sleuth, 1980s Educating Rita and Hannah and Her Sisters, 1990s Cider House Rules and 2000s The Quiet American….I wonder if either one of them will get one in the 2010s.

I thought Harry Brown was pretty good….with a nice ending that can be debated if he lived or not….thanks for checking out the update….and I am sure Sir Michael forgives you letting an American beat you in the tally count…lol.
