“Wait a minute, doc. Are you telling me that you built a time machine… out of a DeLorean?”
I remember back in 1985 seeing two films at the cinema on the same day, I was with a movie mad friend. The film we were really looking forward to seeing that day was Ridley Scott’s Legend, we were huge fans of Alien and Blade Runner, the other film was Back to the Future.
We saw Legend first, apart from Tim Curry as Darkness we weren’t very impressed with it, than we walked across the street to the other cinema (in London’s West End which was filled with cinemas, each showing just one film, how times have changed) and saw Back to the Future… and we went nuts over it, we couldn’t wait to see it again.
On the way home we had forgotten about Legend and were still discussing Back to the Future and the twists and turns of time travel. It still remains one of my favorites from that decade, the sequels were fun but not a patch on the original.
I’ve seen 18 of the 25 films listed. Favorites include the Back to the Future trilogy, The Frighteners, Mars Attacks, Secret of my Success, The Hard Way and the Disney animation Atlantis the Lost Empire.
I have Casualties of War on DVD but it’s not a film I enjoy watching. And I still have not seen The American President. One day I’ll get round to it. 🙂
Back to the Future tops all the charts, nice.
It is very sad what happened to this actor, you just don’t know what life has in store for you. You can be healthy, don’t smoke, drink or take drugs and it won’t make a difference, it’s like a lottery. Look at what happened to Stephen Hawking, and at a young age.
Excellent work Bruce. Voted Up.
Yes, I know. His disease can be traced back to his days on the set of the TV show Leo and Me. There was something about the climate and atmosphere that was the reason for his disease.
I love Mr. Fox. I am devastated that he is losing his battle.
And re: Hawking – he is THE MOST INTELLIGENT MAN ON THE FACE OF THE PLANET. Still doesn’t help him avoid ALS.
Hey Steve…..great quote from Back to the Future. Interesting about your double feature back in the 1980s…..I think Legend has almost entirely been forgotten…while Back to the Future is still going strong. Tally count…. Me 22. You 18…… Flora 16 and Laurent 12.
I also really like The Frighteners….directed by Peter Jackson…..before he became Peter Lord of the Rings Jackson. Let’s see we have a Martin Sheen, Michael Douglas, Annette Bening, Rob Reiner and now a Fox page…all these mobile subjects are begging you to watch The American President….and you still resist….you are like Charlton Heston in The Omega Man….the last person to watch that movie.
You are 100% correct…you gotta live each due to the fullest because you never know what is coming down the track. Thanks for the visit and the comment.
Love Mr. Fox. He has put up a brave fight as he has stayed in the public eye versus hiding. Very brave sorry to hear that he has taken a turn for the worst. Loved all the Back To Future movies as well as his outstanding performance in The American President. Now that was a Oscar worthy supporting role. Nice page as always.
Hey Helakoski. Glad you like our MJF page. He is indeed been a great light for people to see and understand more about this disease. The Back to the Future movies are great. I agree with you about his role in The American President. Thanks for the comment and for stopping by.
Hello Bruce,
I’ve seen only 12 of his movies, but I realy like him. “Back to the futur” was the first filmI saw at the cinema without my parents. I was eleven. It’s one of those movies I like to see again and again. I’have seen it 15 ot 20 times.
“Class of 84” knew his little success when it realesed in France. It became cult to teen of the 80’s, with the VHS. It was one of the great success of the Video Clubs. The poster fascinated me for years, before I could see it. At the time I loved this movie. It was my favorite kind of movies. I’ve seen it may be 10 times. Perry King was very good . I saw him no longer and instead aged well. What he was violent for its time.
Christopher Reynold, in his book “Hollywood power stats” gave the box office number of $2 161 720 in domestic rentals, for “Class of 84”
Hey Laurent….I will fix the box office for Class of 1984….Box Office Mojo had nothing for that movie…..I forgot all about checking the Reynolds book…..thanks for the catch. I remember when Class of 1984 played on HBO all the time….I probably watched it 110 times myself. Tally count….me 22, Flora 14…and you 12. With Steve’s count coming….he might knock you out of the medals….lol.

Bruce:
My father met Michael J. Fox at the airport one day when Fox’s father was still alive.
He was on his way to Vancouver for experimental treatment for his disease and had flown to a smaller airport to avoid publicity.
My father said that Fox mentioned that he loved being back in Beautiful British Columbia and that it was beautiful , but that you had to put up with a lot of rain to see how beautiful it was.
So true!
Being that Fox’s father was still alive, it was indeed a long time ago. I cannot remember the year. Could it be ten years ago.
Fox was an army brat here when he was 3. Before my time. LOL!
Thank-you Bruce for bringing joy into my life with this page.
Very cool story. I am sure like my father….your father liked to share that story. Thank you for sharing it.
